Space Supreme -- Battle in the BrikWars Chat

Post by Natalya » Fri Apr 05, 2013 2:44 pm

Hey, guess what, it's time for a BrikWar, but this time instead of a slow forum battle that could take months, it is a battle in the BrikWars chat. That means that this is going down in real time right now. If you're reading this get in the chat to sign up immediately.

Those are the forces. This is like Immortals and Inquistadores vs Assyrians, Canadians, and Czechs.

Here's how this game will work.

<Natalya>: the way this shit works
<Natalya>: you see generator and capacitor
<Natalya>: each turn you generate that much energy
<Natalya>: it stores in the capacitor if you don't spend it
<Natalya>: up to the maximum
<zahru2>: reactor=generator, correct
<Natalya>: every time you fire
<Natalya>: yes
<Natalya>: every time you fire a turbo laser it uses 2gw
<Natalya>: every time you fire a regular laser it uses 1 gw
<Natalya>: torpedoes are fired for free
<Natalya>: you can raise shields as high as you want to provided you have the energy to do it
<Groldeen>: And you can add surplus power to shit?
<Natalya>: and you can spend as much energy on engines as you want
<Natalya>: in propulsion it tells you how many inches of move you get per gigawatt of energy spent
<Natalya>: for shields each gw is 1d6
<Natalya>: except lady vega gets 2d6 shields per gig
*** Groldeen quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
<Natalya>: the small ships without power stuff listed
<Natalya>: they have max speed
*** Groldeen joined #Brickwars
<Natalya>: and
<Natalya>: small ships have a max speed and can fire all their weapons at no cost they ignore this energy shit
*** BFenix joined #Brickwars
<Butts>: okay how about firing arcs, I see that some weapons are "forward mounted"
<Natalya>: ok
<Natalya>: so
<Natalya>: forward mounted guns
<Groldeen>: Hi BFenix
<Natalya>: have to fire like in the direction
<Natalya>: the ship is pointing
<BFenix>: Hummm, Hi
<Natalya>: and
<Natalya>: all other guns
<Natalya>: are turrets
<Natalya>: so they can turn
<Groldeen>: We all claimed stuff already, but I could lend you the Assyrians or something
<Natalya>: torpedoes are fired from one spot but they can like
<Natalya>: home
<Natalya>: so
<Butts>: how do they move
<Natalya>: they auto-hit if thye don't get shot down or hit anything in 3 turns they run out of juice
<Natalya>: they move 5" per turn
<Natalya>: so you can like aim the nose of your ship to fire forward-mounted weapons
<Natalya>: and turret weapons you don't have to aim

Silver fires at the torpedo but he missed. He raises his shields again, this time to level 5.

Piltogg commanding the Lady Vega II fired a turbolaser at the Suvorov but the shields absorbed the damage from it and the torpedo.

I went all out and attacked with everything I had, burning down my energy. -1 SP to the Lady Vega II and -3 to the Mourning Star.

I think you may have missed the second Assyrian turn, not that I had any part in it  .

With 18 SP on the Black Thorn, this is going to turn out more like OGRE than anything else.

I wonder if anyone here knows what that is.

I'm aware of it but have never played it. I heard Steve Jackson successfully kickstartered a new edition of it. Instead of those counters, it'll have honest to god board constructed tanks. Reminded me of the Pirates CSG when I saw it.

I need to change the rules I've been using for this. The movement works okay. Firing lasers and taking damage and shields seem okay. I'm worried though about computing damage to the systems of a ship, like I didn't think up how structure point damage should lead to negative consequences for the rest of the ship like maybe reduced accuracy or something. I also didn't figure out how distance and size of target should affect accuracy. Maybe the angle finger rule or something. And torpedoes, since I had them home in on their target, that's cool, but I didn't think of like how their change in direction from one turn to another should be worked out, like do they arc or whatever.

Also, losing shields, maybe 1 extra gw should be spent to raise them if they were down. And like if damage is done to them by one attacker in that person's turn then another attacker goes right after do the shields start over or whatever?

I think it is slightly nonsensical how the homing torpedoes move currently, the fact that the immortal ship can dodge around that way, despite being tactically sound, makes it seem that they torpedoes stop and start homing randomly. I think it would make more sense, and be cooler, if they get fired a certain distance on the shooter's turn, but began to home and follow the ship around as response actions on the target's turn. It would make the maneuvering more cool looking and add a larger sense of urgency.
I don't really have opinions on many of the other things, but think that accuracy for distance could work if you lower the ranges and use the 2010 out of range rules.
