Jedi Outcast / Jedi Academy and Mods
So, as part of May the 4th, I bought Jedi Academy from the Mac App Store.
Damn good choice. While the saber movements still feel imprecise, and the graphics can suck a big one compared to modern stuff, this is still one of my favorite childhood games. Along with Nanosaur, Bugdom, Deimos Rising, and Halo 1 Demo, Jedi Academy was the outlet of all my budding childhood gamerism, and it's damn awesome to have a version that works with OSX again!
Plus hunted up a bunch of mods and hilts, and JA+, so it's pretty well decked out. (though I will likely never play online, just single player). Back to playing!

I agree in that this series was one of my all-time favorites. Do you prefer Jedi Outcast/Academy or Jedi Knight/MotS better?
Re: Jedi Outcast / Jedi Academy and Mods
Actually never played the originals, started with Jedi Academy. I've been thinking of going back and playing Jedi Outcast.

Dark Forces was the first video game I ever played.

Re: Jedi Outcast / Jedi Academy and Mods
Sadly, I have never played Dark Forces. I really want to; perhaps I'll get a copy on ebay sometime.
Jedi Knight is one of the best Star Wars games of all time; I think any Star Wars fan might tell you that. The lightsaber fights aren't as numerous (There's only seven), but for a 1997 game it is pretty great and even has dark and light side endings as well. There's ten weapons which are really great and you get a wide array of force powers. The only downside is that whenever you reach the point in the game where you have to choose between light or dark then you'll lose any powers with the other side. For example, if you're light side, you can't choose grip. But the powers are pretty great when used effectively and it has a really good story.
Mysteries of the Sith was the expansion pack for JK and I have a love/hate relationship with it. The storyline is meh, but it includes a great deal of new weapons, environments, enemies, and new powers. Another downside to this game was the fact that they removed the live-action cutscenes from JK in favor of cutscenes that utilized the game's engine to show the story. Still, pretty fun; you actually get some extra hands to help you in some levels, a feature that JK never really had. You could probably get both JK and MotS on ebay for less that $20; I found MotS on there a while ago for only $6.
Jedi Outcast was a pretty decent game, I liked the new engine and the story was alright but there were some elements that could have been a lot better. Tavion just pisses me off every time I see her and although Desaan has a neat character he wasn't all that intimidating (although he is a bitch to fight). The lightsaber fights were much more fast-paced and very enjoyable, and the powers felt like they were pretty useful too. I actually prefer using the guns in all the games though so my exprience with the powers comes from the times in-game when I had to face lightsaber-based opponents. The weapons are very similar to the original JK, but there are some new additions. They also don't feel as powerful this time though.

You can simultaneously get dark forces, jedi knight, mysteries of the sith, jedi outcast, and jedi academy on steam...for $20. Why bother with ebay?

Because I don't use Steam. I prefer having the actual CDs; just like how I like having an actual book with pages rather than staring at some screen.

No. There is no one else like this, and you should see a psychiatrist.Kalvinator wrote:I'm not really a fan of the feel of paper, anyone else like this.
