Liberation Day Part II: The Battle of Beige Fields

Post by Theblackdog » Sun Jun 16, 2013 10:48 pm

See here for part I.

The battle for Refuge begins...

Image
The Britannian army prepares for the final assault on the entrance to the T.L.A.'s underground tunnel complex.

Image
Bob the Unbuilder and his cabinet lead the T.L.A. forces out of the concealed exit to confront the Britannians.

Image
As the two armies prepare for battle, a single shuttlecraft roars out of the entrance at high speed, with a mysterious helmeted figure at the controls...

Image
...then pitches up into a vertical climb and quickly rises out of view.

Image
For a moment the battlefield is silent, and then Bob gives the order the T.L.A. was waiting for:
"CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!"

Image
The B.A.L.L.S. fires two rockets from each of its launchers.

Image
They decimate the Britannian ranks. Two gunners, two infantrymen, and an officer are killed. The flak gun and field gun are destroyed, allowing T.L.A. tanks and aircraft to advance without fear of response fire.

Image
The B.A.L.L.S. also fires its railgun at the Challenger-class landship, but misses.

Image
The S.H.I.T.'s pilot performs some fancy maneuvers, allowing him to deploy his squad directly atop the watchtower. They fan out and prepare for the inevitable wave of incoming troops.

Image
The S.P.L.A.T. fires its plasma gun at the Challenger, but an Armoured hull and a pathetic damage roll protect it from harm.

Image
The F.L.A.S.H. attacks the Britannians' Mosquito fighter-bomber head on, firing two missiles.

Image
With lethal results.

Image
The other T.L.A. aircraft lack the F.L.A.S.H.'s long-range weapons, and advance more cautiously.

Image
Captain Harris spurs his horse towards the guard tower and makes a heroic leap onto the platform. Thanks to a critical success, he decapitates the T.L.A. gauss gunner and kills an officer with a burst from his rotary musket.

Image
His subordinates don't fare nearly as well: neither of them hit their targets, and one of them is killed by response fire.

Image
The land frigate moves up to provide support.

Image
...oops. The gunner's incompetence causes Captain Harris to lose a wound.

Image
Fortunately, the blast also destroys the S.H.I.T..

Image
The Conqueror-class land battleship moves up and launches its spotter plane. The spotter plane makes an attack on the Hr-37, but misses. The battleship lines up a barrage on the B.A.L.L.S....

Image
...and brings it down.

Image
The Challenger fires its heavy steam gatling at the S.T.Ü.D.G.O.D., but doesn't pierce its armor.

Image
The Vulcan bomber opens up with a flak barrage (that doesn't do enough damage) and a pair of Skyflash missiles (that miss harmlessly).

Image
The Spitfire needs to pull off some fancy maneuvering to avoid rear-ending the Blenheim spotter plane, but ends up attacking the F.L.A.S.H. at point blank range... and somehow managing to miss.

To be continued...

Image
The Hr-37 overflies the Britannian lines and throws itself into a flat spin, bringing its guns to bear on the Britannian lines... but fails to hit anything.

Image
The F.L.A.S.H. attempts a similar maneuver, but spins out and loses altitude.

Image
A squad of troops emerges from the back of the downed B.A.L.L.S., but is too far away to do anything.

Image
The S.T.Ü.D.G.O.D. fires its main guns at the Challenger Land Destroyer, and misses...

Image
... but the Vulcan gets caught in the fingercone and takes heavy damage.

Image
The S.P.L.A.T. fires a plasma shot that destroys the Challenger's rocket-torpedo tubes and atomic boiler.

Image
The minifigs on the guard tower open fire, and shoot the land frigate's main gunner out of his seat.

Image
The Hover Killdozer charges forward, smashing through the barricade in front of the Britannian troops and running over three, while Bob shoots a gunner with his minigun.

Image
The Spitfire turns around and heads towards the F.L.A.S.H., but it's still out of range.

Image
The Blenheim attempts to strafe the troops on the wall, but its guns jam.

Image
The Land Frigate doesn't do any better.

Image
Captain Harris gets back on his horse and charges the remaining T.L.A. troops. A second critical success lets him kill three, including the officer and the soldier with the missile launcher.

Image
The other remaining cavalryman rides up to the guard tower, hops off, and kills one of the troops there.

Image
One of the Land Frigate's gunners abandons his rotary musket to take over the main gun, but can't figure out the controls.

Image
The Vulcan makes a hard turn and flies directly over the S.P.L.A.T., releasing a Grand Slam bomb as it does so.
"Ohshi-"

Image
BOOM.

Image
The land battleship moves up and, anticipating Bob the Unbuilder's inevitable boarding assault, deploys Marines onto its rear deck.

Image
Bob and his cabinet start off their attack by ramming the Land Battleship and destroying a wheel. As they prepare to charge the troops on the deck, the sound of :666: suddenly fills the air.

Image
"BOB THE UNBUILDER!"

Image
"CAN HE BREAK IT?"

Image
"BOB THE UNBUILDER!"

Image
"FUCK YES HE CAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"

Image
Bob: "Hang on a sec, that's my phone..."

This was incredibly awesome. It was cool seeing a plane/ship based battle, very interesting and different from the usual. 10/10

I like it. A worthy addition to the trilogy.
