Pacific Rim looks like
it's going to be a fun movie on its own - mecha, giant monsters, Ellen McLain, and so on. But there's a reason to go see it beyond that.
Guillermo Del Toro, director of Pacific Rim, was going to do a movie adaption of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness, but dropped the project because the studio wanted it to be family friendly. But now he's going to try again
, and the project's financing depends on how well Pacific Rim does.
So when Pacific Rim comes out in July, go see it. Several times. This is our chance to get a big budget Lovecraft movie by a competent director.
