Yeah, it depends. No one is better attuned to his own self interest than I. Is this natural exhaustion? Because if I even sense that it isn't, I'm gone and doing my best (verbally) to get the others to follow suit.

It seems like natural exhaustion.

I was waiting for someone to tell me what a bad idea this is and question my leadership, adding another conflict in the party and allowing for some character development.
If we all die though, at least we died because of my character's idiocy, which is better than dying because of my idiocy.

Nah, as far as I'm concerned, we hashed that out. It won't be until your character makes a blatantly stupid decision which threatens my life that I either cut your throat or leave you to the wolves. Until then, I'm your man or I wouldn't still be following you around.

You set up camp in one of the broader parts of the tunnel and go to sleep.
Some time later, you wake up in what you think is the morning. As you eat breakfast, you hear faint sounds echoing down the tunnel from the way you came. They are too weak and distorted by the echo to be identified; you suppose they come from far away, but it's hard to tell.

Holy crap, we weren't immediately killed! I grip my magic sword and wait behind cover.

You get into position and wait. The noises stop after a short time. Then nothing happens.

You progress through the tunnel, noting that there seems to be more and more of the tiny crawling things the further you go.
After a while you start feeling the horrible smell again, and shortly thereafter you come upon another large cavern. A dozen of the fat, big-eared beasts are sitting on the floor eating crawlers. Two tunnels lead from this cavern: one straight ahead, and one to the right. Suddenly, without any noticeable cause, all the fat beasts scramble to their feet and toddle towards the right tunnel, squealing.

Better than waiting to see why they're running.

I agree. We should follow them.
