I'll probably get a bunch of those just to get some parts in uncommon colors.aoffan23 wrote:Disney Princess sets.

Creator sets. The two animal sets look particularly good. I'm planning to pick up at least one of both of them.

2014 star wars sets. Seems like they are aping kreo with friction firing missile bricks. Also, new minifig pistols that can friction fire 1x1 round studs.

The new Hero factory sets just scream Pacific Rim.
EDIT: Correction - the new Hero Factory sets ARE just Pacific Rim sets with a different name (Invasion from Below).
Tell me those aren't Kaiju.
I mean don't get me wrong, they look great! But man, they just threw subtlety out the window with these.

Re: 2014 sets
I think lego has concepts pitched many months/years in advance, so I'd say they had the whole monsters vs mechs idea way before Rim was a thing, though I could see them being influenced by it during the design process. But stubby probably knows that better than either of us.
Not that I mind though! I think most of these look pretty great. Oh and yeah, instead of constantly looking for blogs and sightings you can just check back at this guy's stream now.
Edit: just realized that splitter beast is gonna split into a ground and a flyer monster! Look at those conspiciously floating feet pieces around it's chest armor! I bet it's gonna detach into a ground guy and a flyer guy!

Didn't realize that Charlie Day was in the Lego movie.
New Star Wars stuff looks okay, the big walking guns are cool I guess. Also, those green stormtroopers are pretty ugly, but they're coming at a time when I'm looking for a cheap supply of green torsos.

Re: 2014 sets
I'm looking forward to the new SW sets. That artillery gun is just screaming for me to stick on a nice big tank, and their are two new clone trooper squads? Awesome (sorry Silver, I have to say the new green troopers rock. They'll fit right in with my rebel forest trooper guys). And that belt-fed whatever-it-is on the yellow hero factory mecha looks like it would come in handy too. I hope that big green thing on the back is an ammo drum.

Whoa those are some cool mechs. I wonder if the minifig-scale HF dudes will be better than the minifig-scale Bonkles.Zahru II wrote:I think lego has concepts pitched many months/years in advance, so I'd say they had the whole monsters vs mechs idea way before Rim was a thing, though I could see them being influenced by it during the design process. Here's a funny thing: I have access to all the upcoming set info, but I almost never look at it because it's more fun to find out about stuff at the same time as everybody else.
So when I was still doing concept stuff, many years ago, we were proud to be cutting an 18-month development cycle down to 6 months. (I hear that Brick by Brick has some good chapters about this process, but I haven't read it yet.) But we also had stockpiles of every idea you could think of in reserve. AFOLs used to always be coming up to me with whatever great pet theme idea they had, and I always had to tell them the same thing: no AFOL has ever told me a 'genius idea' that we didn't already have concepted out and ready for development.
We've had Giant Robots Versus Monsters in the concept library at least as far back as EXO-Force, and almost certainly much farther; I know since I worked on a few angles. If I had to guess, what probably happened is that somebody at Lego was looking at the slate of movies coming out this year, looking for anything new that might be capturing kids' imaginations, and saw that Pacific Rim was one of the few big blockbuster pg-13 movies Lego isn't already doing licenses for. So they dusted off some of the concepts already developed and hit the big go button.
That's my guess anyway.

Well they have 2 advantages over the bonkle guys:stubby wrote: Whoa those are some cool mechs. I wonder if the minifig-scale HF dudes will be better than the minifig-scale Bonkles.
6) they are not stingy with the headpieces (everybody has a unique one as opposed to just repaints which looked stupid)
7) They seem to have proper EF robot like legs that can move back and forth!
I'll be super excited if they retained a waist swivel as well although that's probably not going to happen looking at how the body armor works for them.
been there done that (sorta)Tentacle beasts vs Japanese school girl minifigs in short skirts.

That was my official Lego set suggestion.

Re: 2014 sets
Cool Sets:
The movie motorbike chase(Treads+robots)
Emerald express(Tank treadwheels)
Thunder raider(treads+What I hope is two pieces of sand green)
I'll probably get those and some tank droids.
I want more sand green.
