Unknown Installation

Post by The Shadowscythe » Wed Mar 10, 2010 3:44 pm

//RELEASE ORDER 512-B

//RELEASED INFORMATION FROM SCYTHIAN MILITARY RESEARCH ARCHIVES

//INFORMATION REGARDING UNKNOWN INSTALLATION █████████████████

//ALL INFORMATION IS CLASSIFIED - █████ LEVEL CLEARANCE IS REQUIRED

Installation █████████████████ was discovered on the moon of █████ within the "Malhiem" system (Co-ordinates █-█-█ ██-█-████) by the Scythian Naval Force group "Theta five" (Fleet group consists of Scythian Supercarrier "Novack", Scythian Battleships "Galhor" and "Telosas" along with accompanying fleet of three destroyers, 12 frigates and numerous smaller vessels) during the routing patrols of the Northern wastes, an area of the galaxy filled with proto-systems and asteroid fields.

Installation █████████████████ appears to be the only sign of any form of civilized development in the entire system (and it is safe to assume for the moment, the entire cluster) and consists of a single section of some form of "Moonbase" style structure. This structure is constructed of materials far denser than those used in structures typical of this style, and are lined with multiple bracing systems built within the core of the structure - far more than needed to ensure hull integrity of an installation for this area of space.

The installation however, has suffered from extreme external damage that would appear to be from a super massive (possibly nuclear or fission) explosive blast - and is open to space. The first anomaly is that there is no form of debris indicated from this blast, nor any evidence of any kind of blast on the moons surface - and no form of craters evident on the moon to show that there has ever been one - the largest crater on the moon being a 5 meter wide dust crater formed by a recent micro-meteorite collision.

The second anomaly of Installation █████████████████ is its peculiar ability to bend space-time - in the fact its inside is considerably larger than its outside. What appears to be a single, contained cross-section from the outside, becomes a massive labyrinth on the inside - and any form of navigation quickly becomes useless - as GPS systems frequently fail due to unknown electromagnetic waves from somewhere within this labyrinth, robot probes suddenly shut down due to unknown means, and radio signals cut off seemingly at random.

Manned teams however - have been successful in using physical aids (ropes) to keep a path back to the entrance clear, thus far - an estimated distance of over 19 kilometres has been mapped in each direction (including that of the entrance) and every section appears to be built on a single floor. Facilities mapped during these sections include, but are not limited to -

- Straight tunnel sections
- Corner sections
- "T" junction sections
- Cross sections
- Command sections
- Communications sections
- Living quarters sections
- Mess hall sections
- Medical sections
- Hydroponic sections

Thus far, no other entrance/exit has been found, other than the one that allows entrance to Installation █████████████████ and the following anomaly's have been recorded inside -

- Unknown Electromagnetic radiation, which has made it impossible to map the Installation with robotic probes, but off radio signals and scrambled GPS transponders.
- Instances of atmosphere with the Installation apparently open to space. This atmosphere has shown no physical means of containment, or explosive decompression. Atmospheres recorded have consisted of - Oxygen/Hydrogen mix safe to carbon-based life - Hydrogen Sulphide, capable of eating through materials introduced to the Installation, but not the Installation itself - Carbon, in a pure gas form - Helium and Silicon, In a pure gas form.
- Exploration teams have reported hearing "Strange noises" within the Installation, these noises have been described as being anything from "Scratching sounds" to "Blood curdling screams" - as sound recorders do not work in vacum, these have not been confirmed - but recorded logs from the audio systems in the exploration teams suits have never recorded any sounds beyond usual radio travel.
- Unknown remains - These remains are of dead sentient, and non sentient's, some recognisable as minifig - others from species known to minifig, some completely unknown and impossible to known science. These corpses have been found in various stages of decomposition, from being recently dead (where infra-red still detect dissipations of body heat) to advanced de-composition, which is again, impossible in a vacuum. No cause of death has ever been discovered for these corpses - and all methods of transport for autopsy have failed, as the corpses appear to be fixed in place to the structure of Installation █████████████████.

//CONTAINMENT METHODS.

As of yet, no method to contain Installation █████████████████ has been found, or needed - and Scythian research base "KINGUNDERTHEMOUNTAIN" has been constructed on the nearby planet of ███████ for research purposes. The Fleet group that discovered Installation █████████████████ now stands on permanent alert in orbit above the Installation with Nuclear and/or Fission weapons on stand-by status if needed.

cool description dude, what are you going to do with this? LDD forum battle? sci-fi space hulk style? The background is all there :)

//OPERATION PRIDE PT I

The Scythian Empire has discovered a mysterious installation in the █████████████, where the Scythians have noted "reality warping" effects similiar to the ███████ incident. The space station resembles a war cross, something I have taken to mean that these effects are supernatural in nature. I have put together a team of specialists to investigate this installation and recover any artifakts that may be causing this dilapidated space station to behave so strangely.

The team is lead by Dolph von Eisenger, who personally volunteered for this mission. We've prepared a soul beacon for him in case the bodycams short out. He also has enough mana to teleport the entire team outside of the installation in case of emergency. In addition to the medic and 12 soldiers, he is accompanied by the engineer Erich Fulcenheim and Frederick Gräberin, a member of the shovel brigade. I have authorized the use of an Orange Transparent Chainsaw, as well as 16 Mk II Missiles and one Bertha. I have great confidence that this team will be successful.

Man, Dilanski and I are writing a brikfic on this too. Invading this installation seems to be all the rage.

“The next passage appears to be an open vacuum. Please be advised” a Praetorian marine warned from the front of the group. One by one, the team members turned the corner and stepped on to the narrow, rusty walkway. The floor was grated, and the walkway had periodic holes, exposing bent beams of steel with brown, speckled ends. The team had encountered random vacuums and atmospheres before, but this sight was truly amazing.

Above everyone’s heads, a beautiful blue star burned through its hydrogen, while below the grating lay an array of colorful planets. To everyone’s left, a pink gravity wheel, escorted by two cruisers of the same color, raced towards a massive green dreadnought. The pink ships boneriffic their speed through the sheer amount of firepower they outputted, all fired for nought against the green super-capital’s shields, webbing into blue hexagons upon impact. The occasional shell headed in the walkway’s direction, flying overhead in a blurred streak of exhaust.

Travus and Dr. Takaya paused, the latter hitting his data-pad a few times after pointing it at the spectacle.

“This device is failing me right now! It detects nothing- no thermal, no EM, no gravitational field no gravitational field beyond the railings of this walkway. It’s completely blank” Takaya complained.

Travus stared at the dueling ships, before deliberately sticking his arm past the railing. To everyone’s horror, it disappeared, like a bloodless slice, but reappeared when he pulled it back.

“Something doesn’t seem right” he remarked.

“No shit Sherlock” Dr. Pensmith replied in an annoyed tone. “It’s probably just an illusion of some sorts, and we should be glad it isn’t killing us. Now let’s keep moving.”

As the last team member exited the precarious walkway onto a normal corridor, a shell crunched through the former, shredding the aged steel as it screeched in resistance. It was no use- the walkway was now disconnected, and the shell gradually disappeared until it went past the location of the former railings.

Seeing this resurrected has given me a spurt of inspiration.

Behold, the science base in orbit - a "KINGUNDERTHEMOUNTAIN" installation.
