Another Lego MUMORPUGER?????

Post by loafofcheese » Wed Jun 11, 2014 5:14 am

So I was reading around the webs, and i found this:
http://www.playminifigures.com/en
It's supposedly the spiritual successor to lego universe, and looks pretty good, what does rayhawk have to do with this?
Only problem with silver bullets is the price of silver.

Huh. Well here's a thing.

Lego universe was culled before its time, yes - hopefully this will make up for its premature demise. I always felt that it's primary shortcoming was a lack of content, you had three tiers of player progression - which was great for a younger player base but not for older players, and only a small number of in game locales that lead to most players speed running through the game at a great pace of knots.

Mike posted up things about combat between players with their own built creations. Capture the flag style games, those would have extended its life some - but it seemed that the end game was to create your own things on the floating island setup and invite others, there was no other paths or ceilings to be reached, and once most of the older player base realised this, I watched most of then drop off dramatically.

In the end I think I had a year's subscription for me and my kids, having the game ordered on day of release. It's going to sound horrible but I don't think I remember ordering a second year. If I did - most of it must have been refunded.

So I hope, I really hope that they are expanded where LU fell short and keeping a greater depth of content as the primary goal. If we can see that coming into the new game. I'll pick up a copy and another years subscription.

It's in open beta now:

A huge step backwards from LU (it's a watered-down diablo style game, which shouldn't be bad but each fig only has 2 attacks and that's that); hope you like microtransactions!

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breathe for any customizability. They seem to be leaning pretty heavily on their collectable minifig line instead for some reason...

I think an awesome Lego game would be a Lego RTS, but actually good. (I know there was a Rockraiders one, apparently it was pretty bad...)

EDIT: I remember there was a cool Mars Mission flash one too.

Oh man. You should have seen the LEGO Universe RTS zones that we never got clearance to release. They were epic.

They did make Lego Battles for the nintendo DS of all machines; I enjoyed that but it's basically warcraft1/dune2 in terms of gameplay depth and controls.
