The tail fins are baller on that plane.
You seem to have the hang of using colour in lego, and your builds have nice shapes, plenty of pazazz.

Thanks! The fuselage is a little flimsy because of the way the mudguard parts at the back of the cockpit extend into it. But overall I'm pretty happy. I've discovered that tail fin connection on multiple separate occasions, and forgotten it every time.Blitzen wrote:Very cool. I like the shaping on the body and the way you used hinges to create the tail angles.

Thank you, I'd say the same for you. The problem with colour blocking is that it generally becomes easier when you acquire more parts. I've definitely been focusing on form unity for this force though.ikensall wrote:The tail fins are baller on that plane.

45th Union
Sorry for the poor quality, and the weird lighting. I wanted to get some pictures of this stuff before I forgot.
Decided to make a small contingent of RoC77's 45th Union.
Featuring RoC, 3 infantry (one with RPG), officer, scout car with crew, and Secutor tank with driver.
I didn't have any of the exact parts for RoC77's original version, but I kind of like this one better anyway.
I barely had enough parts to make this much infantry.
I don't have a name for this yet. It's smaller than RoC's Rat Jeep, so I'm not sure what I could call it. Mouse? Vole? Anyway, fits a driver and gunner.
This was where the whole thing started. This has been built for a few months, while the rest was built like three days ago.
Other views:
Doors open, gun lifts up to allow gunner to get in.
Going with the gladiator naming scheme, this is the Secutor. A bit more futuristic looking than other 45th Union tanks, mostly due to parts selection honestly. Armed with a high-powered cannon, a machine gun, and two missile tubes.
Also I'm in love with that sticker on the turret. I want more.
Other views:
All weapons are articulated.
Let me know what you think! Or don't.

That's some nice and compact shaping. How robust are these vehicles?

Re: Some miniature forces (Updated 01/15/17)
Thanks! The car is quite sturdy since the front and back are connected by both the chassis and the rollcage. The tank is a little more mixed, with the back being very sturdy and the front being flimsy as hell. The Core is solid, and the side skirts are secure enough, but not super strong. Finally the turret is surprisingly robust for its shape.Duerer wrote:That's some nice and compact shaping. How robust are these vehicles?

Your smaller vehicles are an impressive display of technical razmataz with their combination of detail and compactness.
The tank is super slick too, I think it's my new favourite realistic-ish hovertank. The lines all over and particularly the turret look futuristic but also very tanky, and the light-dark grey mixing does a great job of making you follow the tank's shape and also stopping it from becoming "just another greybleh tank".

That is an absolutely wonderful tank! Amazing job just like the rest of your stuff!

Thanks, guys! Glad you like them.
@ikensall: It's actually not a hovertank, there are treads hidden in there. Unfortunately that means there's no room for a driver, let alone a gunner.

Eh, who cares. If making space for a minifig comprimises the shape or style of it, then it's not worth it. Only rules sticklers care about it anywayaoffan23 wrote: Unfortunately that means there's no room for a driver, let alone a gunner.

Re: Some miniature forces (Updated 01/15/17)
A few new things for the 45th Union:
(Sorry for the really, really wonky lighting, still trying to figure out good photography.)
First off, the jeep has been updated with some better wheels, because the old ones sucked.
Prototype Walking Tank
Armed with a high-powered cannon, a machine gun, and a mortar. If the legs look eerily similar to the stalker from Resistance: Fall of Man, it's not a coincidence.
Size comparison next to a trooper. It's a tight squeeze in there for the pilot. One might even go so far as to say it's impossible for a minifig to fit in there.
Prototype Portable Artillery
A backpack-mounted weapon system consisting of four miniature mortars. The backpack also has jolt thrusters to counteract the recoil and prevent the soldier from being knocked on his rear. The mortars themselves are programmed to calibrate using the laser sight on the soldier's pistol.
A regular trooper next to a mortar trooper.
Prototype Gunship/Dropship
Two twin-liked machine guns, eight missiles, VTOL capabilities, extremely powerful forward thrusters, and enough armour to withstand a significant amount of gunfire make this beast a powerful aerial asset.
However, missiles and machine guns aren't this gunship's deadliest payload...
Centurion Exo-Soldier
This AI-controlled brute is designed as an infantry support unit, providing hard-hitting firepower with its heavy caliber rifle, while brushing off virtually all small arms fire. The brute force provided by a Centurion drop could turn the tide of a battle, and allow for harder infantry advances to positions unreachable by vehicles.
While I'm quite satisfied with the unit as a whole, I'm extremely happy with how the rifle turned out.
The metal and mettle of the 45th Union.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Addendum: "Prototype" is essentially my way of saying that I don't like the unit enough to keep it around, but enough to take a picture of it and post it. As such, the walking tank, gunship, and mortar backpack are all getting scrapped now that I've got photos of them. There's something I kind of like about the walking tank, so I may end up revisiting that design at some point in the future.
Comments, criticism, or just general musings about what you feel like doing with your time today are all welcome!
