Got some new parts, I'm not that interested in having more figs, but I like to improve the ones I have.

Been trying to make a good turntable for the battlefield, so that it will be far easier to get at every corner and take pictures.

:spoil: It's not easy.

First draft:

Image

Worked in theory, but there were two main issues:
6) The tires stuck to the bottom of the baseplates but the train tracks didn't stick to the table, thus negating the whole point of the turntable.
7) The corners of the battlefield weren't supported, so they drooped like crazy and the field split apart at the seams.

Turned it upside down and it worked a bit better, but the train tracks still had no way of sticking.

Second draft:

Addressed the two main issues, but unfortunately the battlefield still slips a bit, and there's not really any way to increase the support under the corners with this structure.

Some potential improvements:
6) I'll add some more tires to the top to increase grip, so we'll see how that goes.
7) I could add some small bracket-like extensions to the four cardinal arms, so that they can hold the outside edges of the battlefield. However, if they don't look subtle enough they won't be staying, because the turntable should ideally be completely hidden.

Anyway, stay tuned for a third draft. Any suggestions are also welcome.

Corner support

A - 1/4" plywood cut so that its back from the base plate edge.
B - several layers of cardboard as needed

You can add nails or screws to these to hook onto the turntable, so it doesn't slide.

Plywood did cross my mind, and if I had any one hand, I would absolutely use it. However I'm trying to avoid spending money on this part of the build, and I'm also half-committed to the idea of making it 100% out of Lego. If a 100% Lego version doesn't work, plywood would be my last resort before scrapping it.

Just uncommit to LEGO construction and buy a lazy susan (~$10)
I make apocalypses and apocalypse accessories.

Joke's on you! Just finished the third draft and it works perfectly.

I'll post a video/gif of it spinning once the battlefield is 100% done.

The cardboard was instead of plywood, as another option. Easier to adjust.

You beat me to post

What are the wheels on the top piece for ??

Friction between the turntable and the baseplates, probably.

They were for added grip on the bottom of the baseplates, but I just took a closer look and they don't actually touch them. It's close, but there's about a millimetre wide gap. So the answer is they're useless and are getting taken off I guess.

Changing the bottom half to an 8-arm assembly rather than 4 is really what makes this version work.

Double sided scotch tape.
Will probably leave glue behind.
