Army of Lucien Sylvanus
Greetings all,
I'm new to the forums (obviously) but love Brikwars. Here is a catalog of my regiment: the troops of Paladin Lucien Sylvanus.
First we have standard men-at-arms, signified by the horizontal crimson banner:
Next, the squad of spearmen, well-known for storming across the battlefield via shield wall:
Next, the bowmen (and woman) who provide necessary cover-fire:
For flanking maneuvers, four dragon knights on armored warhorses:
A ballista, for firepower exceeding that of the bowmen (and woman):
Lastly, the Paladin himself, Lucien Sylvanus, former apprentice to the Majistik #5, slayer of dragons:
The Army:
- 8 Men-at-arms
- 8 Spearmen
- 8 Bowmen
- 4 Dragon Knights
- 1 Ballista and crew
- 1 Paladin Hero on Gryphon

Oh, that makes me want to build a medieval army, too!
Things that stand out to me include:
-the banners, simple yet very effective
-the barding on the horses (how to do this btw?)
-brick built griffon
-awesome looking squads of classic castle guys
-even more awesome officer and hero

Barding and Griffon
Thanks for the feedback, everyone.
Both the barding and the griffon were inspired by designs I've seen on brickshelf and other MOC pages. I say inspired because in the end I had to design them myself since no one had any instructions or tips lying around.
If anyone'd like the instructions I've made, I'd be glad to share, but I don't know how to post those files??

31 guys, that's a good faction size, though more is never bad. On top of that, they're awesome. The horse armour is better than the standard armour imo, and a good way to use those flags I can't find a use for (for anything other than making banners, of course).
Edit: Almost forgot to say: woohoo, medieval / fantasy army!

Size
Trust me, I want plenty more figs to fill out some ranks and establish more/better block formations. Let's face it, a shieldwall of only 8 men isn't too imposing. I'm just having problems finding a cheap supplier of red scale-mail torsos; the store I had been using closed up shop.
Brick-built barding is also significantly less expensive than trying to hunt down standard barding.
Are there many medieval/fantasy factions running around these boards?

Re: Size
Not so many but those i remember seeing were quite good. Just browse this subforum a bit. Bragallot has some rather huge armies i think and he also runs medieval/fantasy style forum battles.Rev. Sylvanus wrote: Are there many medieval/fantasy factions running around these boards?

I'm flattered, but we also shouldn't forget to mention Zahru II. I indeed have a tidy collection but I'll be looking to put some more originality in it, and it's Zahru who's done the nice medieval / fantasy-style creations so far.
I understand your problem with expanding the ranks; you've probably already considered buying some other torso's along with parts that fit your colour scheme, it could make a nice whole if you can find the right combination.

I understand about the torsos, I use the same scale-mail torsos for my Space-Vikings. Sweet griffin, and nice horse armor, all in all an awesome faction.Rev. Also, I have a sizable medieval army, but I'm currently focusing on my space-vikings, so they probably won't be on here anytime soon.

Torsos
I'm actually throwing that around in my head right now. I'm thinking of replacing the archer torsos with:I understand your problem with expanding the ranks; you've probably already considered buying some other torso's along with parts that fit your colour scheme, it could make a nice whole if you can find the right combination.
leather scale
or a
different scale design
I'm leaning toward brown scales, using the same legs, and then replacing the lieutenant's arms with dark grey.
Note on the Gryphon: I really like the piece too, but I'm fiddling around with LDD to work up a more pose-able version with sturdy legs (in the current version, the legs are by far the flimsiest part)

Those are both good torso's, I own a lot of them myself. I think your red / black combination with other colours to signify officers is very good, and looked up some other torso's to maybe give you ideas, since using different torso's for different unit types (like you seem to be planning with the archers) is a good way to go.
Of course I just made a selection of torsos I liked without looking up whether or not it would be practical to buy them. Keep using those dragon master torso's for officers, then the dragon theme is 'there' but not too omnipresent either.

Of course it's my taste, and something I might try myself, though I've decided I have enough armies / minifigs for now (most haven't seen battle yet). The torso's from many different sets would surely make for an exotic army.
