Or you could just not use automatic fire, like I suggested. It's Quikwars, it's supposed to be quick. The only measuring you should be doing is distances from one fig to another. It's the easiest way.
Teach everyone Quikwars first. If your friends want to play more than that, they can learn the rules themselves. It's stupid for you to have to teach them a billiondee rules.
QuikWars automatic fire?

1:fudge; this is where you make whats happening up.
2: What I says gose roll; this is for when somebody doesn't agree with your fudgeing, each person rolls a dice the person with the highest score gets to choose what happens.

If you're going to try to differentiate things that specific, you almost might as well just make your friends play standard brikwars instead. It's really not all that much more complicated.
Just kidding. What's the specific aspect of automatic fire that you want to include, that you feel the QW system doesn't satisfy? Do you want shots to be more lethal, or do you want to hit multiple targets, or what?

Just some ideas I use that may give an alternative.
In Zombie (Zulu) Dawn I have made the weapons with a high rate of fire increase their to hit by +1 making for less dice rolling. Something bigger with a large rate of fire that would cover an area (Steam Gatling Cannon) gets to try to hit everything in a 1D6/2" area on a 4+ again it's just a quick and dirty fix for speed. It works ok.
Mind you... You could always have them fire twice though.
