The Green Crusade...

Postby Zahru II » Sat Mar 20, 2010 9:53 am

... Which is shorter than you'd expect.
Image
The setting. The imperium has 3 scout in sniping positions. The orks have the viking ultra-mega shooting thingy, which can be fired twice and I used manual fire (which will be very important later on).
The human's objective was slaying the Ork hero, while the ork objective was simply annihilating the enemy.

Image
Imperial Strike force swordsmen, archers, warmachines and a flyer armed with 2 bombs led by Niol, the Force commander of the Empire.

Image
The orks, led by the Warboss who besieged Castle awesome a couple of weeks ago. Relying on brute force and the massive missile launcher, these vile greenskins are eager to krush kill and destroy.

The battle begins... after rolling three ties for initatives. Lol.

So, the orks start, round 1:

Image
The launcher fires, taking out 3 archers, the other failed to deal any damage.

Image
All except one troll began to march towards the enemy, one of the scouts were shot down.

Empire:
Image
The ballistae kills a champion and 2 regular orks.

Image
Besides that, they just simply advance.

Round 2:

Here's the most awkward/awesom thing that occured in my whole wargaming career:

Orks turn:

The launcher fires and hits the flyer; because of manual fire this counts as a hit.
Image
The flyer then fell and crashed into the middle of the orks.
Because of the fall damage the engine blew up and ignited the two bombs too... the result is 27 damage in 6 inch radius.
Image

Image
Two squads, the ork hero and the nearest scout were all blown to bitz.

Image
Since the empire managed to complete his objective first, it's Imperial victory; the remaining orks, scattered and confused, flee.

Image

P.S: I didn't made this up, this is how it happened. I still found it rather weird.

Ohh, new battlereport! And the unexpected quick ending just goes to show that kamikaze is a viable way to attack. Watch and learn, kids.

Anyway, feedback. Forces:Nice armies. Many minifigs but not too many, and they are more then a warband. Also some nice machines, and mideaval setting is cool. Photography: Well above par. Clear. This analogy seems to be somewhat wrong as in golf you aim for below par, but I guess my message gets through :) Explosions: Massive! Satisfaction: A little lacking here, even though I enjoyed reading and watching. I'd have loved to see the large trolls and triceratops in melee...

Great report! Thanks for sharing and brightening my day :D

Well if you have a bomb-armed vessel you gotta admit that's likely to happen :) If you for any reason would want to avoid big booms that take out so many troops I guess you could make the flyer drop rocks or something :?

Well my original intensions with the flying contrapion was to cut out the missile launcher as fast as possible. It was quite a fortunate mishap, I thought that to counter that threat the crossboworks would work best.
But hey, I guess such random things which end up in abnormally big booms gives the real flavor of brikwars. I mean, would you ever expect such mishaps to occur in warhammer, for example? :)

The more I think of it the more Pythony the whole situation is... (without the police)

We avoid very "specific" objectives like "kill the Hero". If that had happened in one of our games, we would have went right on killing things.

Still win though!

He's just the head of the whole Imperial army (so it's usually quite a serious business if even he's involved). My king sits merrily on his throne :)
