PREVIOUS EPISODE: (~X~)
NEXT EPISODE: (~X~)

(Recommended Listening)
The border between the Summer and Winter Kingdom, approximately half a mile from the gates of Arctis Tor.

Image

Oberon: We are approaching the outpost quickly. Once the rest of the army arrives, we will marshall forces at the front gate and initiate the siege.

Corrik: What is it you want us to do?

Image

Oberon: This is one of the encampments where siege weapons are assembled and repaired, we established them originally in case Mab ever decided to overstep her boundaries and try to take the border, but now they are valuable resources deep in the enemy territory. I am leaving you here to keep an eye out for possible pre-emptive strikes from Balor’s forces, while I return to assume command of the Summer troops.

Galvyn: What’s the likelihood of something like that happening?

Oberon: At this stage of our attack? Highly probable. Be wary, Balor’s spies have likely already informed him of the impending siege, so he will want to disrupt things as much as possible while we are still engaged in positioning.

Image

Oberon: Captain, I’m leaving you and the adventurers in charge here, the Eldest Gruff will lend some of his shock troops to help secure the area. Goodfellow, keep an eye on everyone and co-ordinate the kobolds as they prepare the siege weapons.

Fey Knight: As you command, my lord.

Robin: Right-o! We’ll send the one-eyes packing if they come round here!

Oberon: Very well, I will take my leave. More reinforcements and weapons will arrive soon. I will send a messenger when it is time to join with the main force.

Image

Galvyn: Right! So what kind of siege engines are we protecting? Catapults? Rams?

Robin: Ah, yes, you humans use those big clunky mechanical contraptions in your armies. No, nothing so crude. Come! I shall show you!

Image

Robin: These monoliths are carved out of the ground by worker kobolds and carved with runes of power to fire bolts of force that can shatter stone and flesh asunder alike. One of these beauties can do ten times as much damage as one of your ridiculous stone-throwers in a single shot!

Corrik: But… there’s no runes on them. They’re just blank stones.

Robin: Pshaw, you think we’d just leave the runes *visible* where any shmuck could read the them and copy the design? We use illusion magic to cloak them so the secret of their power can’t be stolen!

Galvyn: I guess that makes sense, we’ll take your word for it.

Robin: Seriously, what kind of idiot just leaves ancient runes of power out where anyone can see them! That the--

Image

Gruff: Master Goodfellow! We have incoming! A fog bank is rolling in towards the encampment, with Fomorian colors spotted hidden inside it!

Image

Screeches and clamor coming from inside the fog bank as it dissipates.

Goblins: Bang! Clang! Crush! Smash! Turn the monoliths to ash! Kill! Kill!

Image

Robin: Ye gods, are those what I think they are?

Corrik: What is it? What’s wrong?

Robin: Those are Ankou! Very ancient and very evil denizens of the Wyrdwood. Omens of death and madness given form. What dark powers must Balor have garnered favor with to awaken those monstrosities?

Galvyn: We don’t have time to worry about that, we need to keep them from destroying the siege weapons!

Robin: Captain, form a defensive line! They can’t be allowed to take the outpost!

Unfortunately not, this is over a month old and I'm only getting around to posting this now. There will be spots in future battles though!

TURN ONE

Fey:

Image

The fey knight and gruffs form a barrier between the base and the Fomorians.

Image

The beekeepers, sylph, kobolds, and Robin all move into a more defensible location.

Image

Galvyn uses the power of the Gatekeeper Halberd to rip a chunk of stone up and levitate it in the air.

Image

The beekeepers follow, and both summon an additional faery bee minion.

Image

Robin: To me, brethren fey! Let’s show the one-eyes we mean business!

Kobold: I have a bad feeling about this.

Fomorians:

Image

The Dullahan leads a squad of goblins forward.

Dullahan: Despair, for the Evil Eye turns his gaze upon you! Behold his power!

Image

The night gaunts lope into range for their fear aura to overlap with the gruff battalions.

Image

The Dullahan hurls its pumpkin head into the group of Summer soldiers.

Image

It’s a critical hit, and all the gruffs in the group are knocked prone and singed by the blast.

Image

The night gaunts were unfortunate enough to come into range of the gruff response fire however, and they hurl a volley of spears.

Image

One silently snatches a javelin out of the air with inhuman speed.

Image

The other isn’t as lucky and gets filled with shafts.

Image

Morrigan Priestesses: Battlerage!

Image

The priestesses buff the attack power of the squad of sidhe archers, who feel the chaotic power surging through them.

Image

Their barrage kills a gruff instantaneously and wounds another.

TURN TWO

Fey:

Image

The disrupted gruffs gradually rise to their feet, shaken by the blast.

Gruff 1: Do you hear a ringing in your ears?

Gruff 2: What?

Image

The other two gruffs let out bloodcurdling battle screams and draw stone knives.

Image

They leap at the towering form of one of the night gaunts.

Image

The wounded one is instantly impaled on his own spear by the gaunt, while the other begins slashing and kicking at its featureless face.

Image

Galvyn: Alley-oop!

Image

The goblin’s high pitched scream of terror is quickly cut short as the rock turns its head into a red goop.

Image

Corrik and the beekeepers move up to assist him.

Image

The sylph takes into the air and heals one of the wounded gruffs with a twirl of her staff.

Image

Following the end of the Fey forces surviving one full turn, a faery dragon swoops in…

Image

And picks up one of the monoliths, transporting it to the front line.

Robin: That’s two to go!

Fomorians:

Image

The Dullahan charges forward and attempts to have his mount kick the crap out of the fey knight...

Image

While the banshee and priestesses move into position to be able to better wreak havoc on the enemy troops.

Image

The sidhe archers fire again, this time at the beekeepers, but miss each time somehow due to poor rolls, despite their battlerage buff. Their enraged and trembling fingers fumble their bowstrings and the shots go wild.

Sidhe: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARHGHARHARARA!!!

Image

The goblins charge forward to engage the heroes.

Image

The night gaunt scrambles to try and pry the gruff throwing a bloody tantrum from its face, but the goat-man is far too tenacious to have any time for that nonsense.

Image

The goblins attack Galvyn with their crude scrap blades…

Image

...Bringing them in range of the beekeeper’s response attacks.

Image

Goblin: HHEEEEEEEELLPP!!!

Image

The swarm of bees makes quick work of him, while Galvyn’s counterattack slices open the stomach of one of his kin.

Galvyn: Ha! Didn’t think that one through very well, did you ya bastard!

Goblin: .

Image

Corrik: Bring the beast down, man!

Image

The night-gaunt tries to attack the persistent gruff clinging to its face, but critfails! The gruff counterattacks with a maniacal grin.

Image

The gaunt’s neck is relieved of the burden of holding up its head.

Image

The dullahan attacks the fae knight with his spine whip, but the knight easily twirls out of the way.

Image

The last night gaunt gets within range of the gruff response fire, but is able to dodge all of their attacks.

Image

In retaliation, the gaunt grabs onto the wounded eldest gruff’s throat and lifts him high into the air…

Image

Sylph: Master Goodfellow! Someone is coming

Image

Robin: Oh bugger, you’re right! What on Avross is… Oh no, not this guy again. Defensive positions everyone!

Image

Nikolai: Yaaaaaaah! Forward men! Let’s show those stupid-ass bees who’s boss!

Wildlings: YAAAAAAAAH! FUCK BEES!

Image

Nikolai Kage and his band of bee-hating wildlings have entered the field!

TURN 3:

Fomorians:

Image

The sidhe fire a volley at the beekeepers but continue to roll abysmally.

Image

The Dullahan has better luck and lands a blow on the knight.

Image

The gaunt forcefully introduces goat grandpa to the forest floor.

Image

Gruff: Batting away the banshee’s bouquet flailing at him uselessly. Hey why haven’t you used your scream this whole time? Doesn’t it just kill everything?

Banshee: Sniff I… I guess the others just don’t like my singing… sniff

Gruff: Damn, that’s rough.

Image

The lone remaining goblin decides he likes his odds of being able to take this punk-ass kid on.

Image

Goblin: Raaargh! I’m going to kill you and chew on your human toenails like tobacco!

Galvyn: Well that’s just excessive.

Wildlings

Image

Nikolai: Trapper! Pass me a swig of your whiskey!

Image

He guzzles down a sizable portion and holds a mouthful…

Image

And sprays it into the existing flame from the dullahan’s exploding head to create a cone of fire.

Image

All but one bee are instantly incinerated by the blast.

Image

The trapper catches a gruff by surprise.

Image

Kage and the two wildlings rush up but fail to do any damage to the kobolds or Robin.

Robin: How many times do we have to do this with you boneheads?

Fey:

Image

The beekeeper summons another bee to help recoup his losses.

Image

The camouflaged green knight sees a target step into his range.

Image

Thwunk

The wildling falls with a thorn sticking out of his temple.

Image

Gruff 1: You screwed with the wrong fey today bro!

Gruff 2: What?

Image

Galvyn attempts to channel the power of the Gatekeeper Halberd.

Image

Galvyn: No toenails for you today!

Goblin: What th--

Image

pop!

The goblin suddenly collapses inward and turns into a peridot.

Image

The beekeeper charges forward…

Image

...And sics his swarm on the archers.

Image

Sidhe: I’M TOO HOT TO DIE!

Image

Corrik: Hey you headless bastard! You’ll pay for attacking my town!

Dullahan: You persistence is misplaced, mortal! I cannot be slain by a worm such as you.

Image

Overwatch

It was at this point I had to call the battle, but with nine kills, the Fey easily took the win over the Fomorians’ four.

CONCLUSION:

Image

Wildling: Die, bee-loving weirdo!

Image

Galvyn: Captain! Look out!

Image

Dullahan: I grow tired of your antics, human. It is time you ceased being a thorn in my side.

Image

Robin: Ha! The reinforcements have arrived!

Image

Loud buzzing hum increasing in volume.

Image

Dullahan: Bah! Fall back, we have done all we can here! Retreat to the main gate!

Image

Robin: After them men! Don’t let the cowards get away unscathed!

Image

Nikolai: Ahhhhhhhhh! Not the bees! Not again!

Wildling: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! THEY’RE IN MY EYES!

Image

Galvyn: Huh, I wonder if this is worth something…

Image

Corrik: What’s that you’ve got there, boy?

Galvyn: A goblin.

Corrik: Crazy magical nonsense?

Galvyn: That’s a good way to put it.

Image

Robin: Excellent! The reinforcements have informed me that Oberon has requested for us to join up with the rest of the army. The siege will begin soon!

Galvyn: Don’t we get a minute to catch our breath!?

Robin: If you must, I suppose. But be quick about it, everyone else here has supernatural endurance so you’ll only hold us up.

Corrik: I’m starting to see why people tell stories about how aggravating you are.

Robin: What can I say? It’s one of my best traits.

End Episode 3.

Also of note, @Ninja_Bait and @Nemoto-Sensei participated in this battle briefly, with the latter playing the Fomorians and the former giving orders to Nikolai Kages Wildlings. Thanks for playing, for however short it was!
