The Great War: The Federated States of Icrin

Post by Historynut13 » Sat Feb 16, 2019 8:30 am

Finally, I have started the Federated States of Icrin to fight against my Wisconian forces! Below is some Icrin fluff and backstory. Sorry for the wall of text. I've gone through so many versions and revisions and each time the fluff seemed to get longer and longer. Hope you enjoy and as always, any constructive criticism, thoughts or concerns are appreciated! :D

Background: The Federated States of Icrin is composed of several independent nations that unified to form the Federated States. The five largest nations, Icrin, South Icrin, Bellevalle, Linview, and Thavis hold the most power within the Federated States and are the largest.

For centuries, the nations that make up Icrin competed for resources and squabbled over territorial boundaries with each other. When the Principality of Wisconia began to emerge as a regional power, the countries of Icrin, South Icrin, Bellevalle, and Linview formed an alliance against Wisconia.

As time went on, these nations grew closer and closer, adopting trade and immigration policies that made them seem as one nation. Eventually, to cut down on the time it took to ratify treaties and legislation between the countries, a joint parliament was formed and the Federated States of Icrin were formed.

Each of the four major nations sent five delegates to the parliament and the minor nations were allowed two. Icrin, being the largest by size and population, was allowed to have eight delegates on the joint parliament. The Federated States of Icrin elected their first Prime Minister in 1896 under Prime Minister Viktor Gorbabrickslov.

Traditionally the Federated States of Icrin had close trade relations with their much larger and stronger neighbor The Byzantine Empire. Due to this, Icrin’s foreign policy decisions were strongly influenced by The Byzantine Empire. In 1920, when the Byzantine Empire invaded the neighboring country of Ingary it was no surprise when the Federated States of Icrin provided military support.

The year 1902 saw a large population boom throughout the Federated States as a whole but primarily in Bellevalle. Bellevalle is the largest grain producer in the Federated States and accounts for nearly 75% of production. A fantastic grain harvest, political stability, and a relatively mild winter all ensured this. Icrin also passed Wisconia in lumber production for the first time in decades.

1904 brought war to the Federated States as Wisconia laid claim to some of Icrin’s western territory. The war was brief and largely bloodless border skirmishes occurred. In June of that year though, Wisconia mobilized an entire army group and launched an assault into the heart of Icrin’s western lumber regions. Icrin’s military suffered a massive defeat at the Battle of Krakow Forest and soon the war had ended with Wisconia maintaining possession of these seized territories.

In 1916 the Republic of Thavis, which lies across the Agar Sea, began negotiations to enter the Federated States. Thavis did this due to continued fear of being invaded and influenced by The Common Wealth territories. By 1918 Thavis was a full-fledged member of the Federated States of Icrin, causing the size of her navy to nearly double.

The year 1919 brought a crisis to the Federated States as overpopulation, an economic recession, and a famine caused much hardship for the general populous. The Byzantine Empire, seeing an opportunity, provided much needed aid to the Federated States in food supplies and loans. A grateful populous decried, “Long live Byzantine!” The relief was not without strings as Byzantine expected to be paid back by the Federated States in blood and the newly elected Prime Minister Vladimir Briksputin obliged.

When Byzantine invaded Ingary in 1920, the Federated States were expected to do their part and hold down the Ingarian’s northern flank. While Byzantine’s modern army steam rolled through the quiet and quaint villages of eastern Ingary, the Federated State’s slogged it out in the mud. Neither Ingary nor the Federated States has a large supply of motorized vehicles such as trucks or tanks and thus the advances were slow. Artillery bombardments shredded the closely packed Federal States formations and casualties were high. It wasn’t until Byzantine provided an armored corps. that the Federated States were able to break through their sector of the Ingarian lines.

While the campaign was largely successful for Byzantine, the Federated States did not fair so well. Massive casualty rates, incompetence at all levels of the military leadership, and low morale amongst the troops were all at critical levels. However, fearing full out panic on the home front, the Icrin Ministry of War censored all information of the campaign and portrayed it as widely successful. This caused the ranks of the military to swell as war fever spread across the Federated States’ lands.

Feeling emboldened by the backing of Byzantine and the public support, Prime Minister Vladimir Briksputin pressed the Federated States Parliament for a war declaration against Wisconia to take back lands lost in the 1904 war. With such beaming reports of success from the front, a war declaration was unanimously approved and on June 1st, 1920 The Federated States of Icrin declared war on Wisconia.

Icrin Military

-The Icrin Military is divided into two branches. The Federal Icrin Army (FIA) and the Federal Icrin Navy (FIN.) Generally, individual military units are divided by the individual nations from which they were raised. However, during campaigns with high casualty rates, units can and do get mixed together. This can cause issues with communication and combat effectiveness can be affected due to each nation having their own language and military doctrine.

To minimize this, Icrin Military units are organized into large “Battle Forces.” Battle Forces consist of 200,000-250,000 troops each, drawn from the same nation. Icrin, being the largest nation in the Federated States and its leader, has five separate Battle Forces of 250,000 men each. Bellevale has three Battle Forces of equal size to Icrin. Linview has two Battle Forces of 200,000 and Thavis has one with only 100,000 men. Thavis however, provides many ships for Icrin’s Naval Force.

Icrin can also draw from massive manpower reserves due to the 1902 population boom. The Federal Military Reserve (FMR) consists of six Reserve Battle Forces. Icrin’s Miliary Doctrine regarding its large Battle Force formations have two purposes:

1. To overwhelm the enemy position with numbers.

2. To provide large, yet maneuverable, field formations.

*Side Note: The Raiders are still WIP and are not completed.

The Khoville Skirmisher Regiment “Romanovich’s Raiders”

•The Khoville Skirmishers are a skirmisher regiment based out of the border village of Khoville near the Icrin/Wisconian border. The regiment is led by the rugged frontiersmen and bush fighter, Colonel Viktor Romanovich. The forces under Colonel Romanovich have such a respect for his command ability and tactics they nicknamed the regiment “Romanovich’s Raiders.” Romanovich’s Raiders utilize guerilla and hit and run tactics for waging their campaigns. Colonel Romanovich gained valuable experience fighting in forested terrain during the 1904 war against Wisconia and was present at the Battle of Krakow Forest, where he lost his left hand to enemy gunfire.

*Side Note: Also still WIP.

1st Thavis Marine Expeditionary Force

The 1st Thavis Marine Expeditionary Force is the only military contingent being provided to the Federal Icrin Army from Thavis for the invasion of Wisconia as the rest of her forces are staying home to protect against a feared Common Wealth invasion. Originally, it was planned that the 1st Thavis Marine Expeditionary Force would conduct an amphibious landing along the Wisconian coast. However, with Wisconia’s home fleet in the area it was determined the 1st Thavis Marine Expeditionary Force would be attached to the 304th Battle Force to help replenish their losses. The Thavis Marine Corps. is made up of young, highly motivated, and aggressive marines.

This is the beginnings of a Icrin cavalry unit. The idea is that they will ride mechanical steeds (still working on the design, thinking something along the lines of chicken-style walker from Star Wars.) I haven't come up with a fluff or backstory for them yet though, only designed the fig (They still need hats.) Suggestions on backstory, fluff, or design for their steed are welcome!

All of these forces in this forum are wrapped up in The 304th Battle Force. This is the overall fluff for them, a standard trooper will also being coming in the near future...

304th Battle Force “Icrin’s Iron Fist”

The 304th Battle Force saw action during the Ingary Campaign alongside the Imperial Byzantine Army. While the invasion had a low cost to the Icrin’s ally, the Icrin Army suffered high losses. The 304th Battle Force saw heavy action and suffered the highest casualty rate of any Icrin unit during the campaign. The survivors of the campaign gained invaluable experience and the 304th Battle Force gained the nickname “Icrin’s Iron Fist” for its actions in helping smash Fort Venitia. However, in preparation for the invasion of Wisconia the 304th was provided with many replacements, including a detachment from the 1st Thavis Marine Expeditionary Unit. The 304th was also provided with a force of special troops from The National Integrity Bureau (NIB.) The NIB are the secret police of Icrin and it is currently unknown what they may be doing attached to the 304th Battle Force.

The Khoville Skirmishers have been given an update. I've added some axenottes to their rifles. This allows them to utilize their rifles as tools for cutting down trees and building fortifications in a pinch in wilderness fighting. It can also be used as a weapon, obviously!

Here are some WIP Icrin soldiers! Unfortunately due to the lack of indsustrial capacity and the large size of the Federal Army, Icrin doesn't have enough rifles to equip all of it's soldiers. Those who do not receive a rifle are given plenty of ammunition and expected to pick one up from their fallen comrades on the battle field. Hoping to get some field arty for these guys soon!

Nice custom decals (at least, I think they are). :tiger: The axe-guns are also pretty cool. Who needs bayonets anyway?

I've always been a sucker for ww1 style uniforms and looks. Im curious where you got those torso designs from. I used to do a similar thing with paper and doublestick tape. Did you design them yourself?
