The Five Lions

Post by Race Bannon » Sun May 05, 2019 1:31 pm

In one of the least verbose of his chapters, Greebledotus gives us his version of the story of The Five Lions (breaks in the original papyrus are indicated by ... )

"...of which the users were said to gain wondrous powers. Originally designed to guard an alien castle in a faraway dimension, the five Lions were not cognizant and had to be piloted by very human looking creatures.
These machines...indeed...mighty opponents. All together, the five guardians would combine to create a powerful and gigantic robot to dispatch the mightiest of foes. Now, at some time in the past...spread to the farthest reaches of the...only...Then, by a confederacy of coincidences, they ended up in the hands of the dreaded forever young magicians...(long break in the text)
...one time. Imbued (read trapped) with their new spirits, they acquired the moniker 'The Five Lions'. Now, even more powerful than ever, the Five Lions broke the magical bonds that required them to heed the words of the Sorcerors."

Greebledotus goes on to explain each of the Lions and it's powers.

" ...of which the first, after...once is now known as Tamajishi. The original pilot of this lion was called 'Pidge', and his story is mostly unknown. At that time...until...then called Jamjamros...but eventually manifested sentience as the Jade Lion.
This Lion makes up the left arm of the giant robot, and ,embodies the qualities of defense, healing, and combat flexibility. This Lion has powerful defensive capabilities. In it's giant form this Lion holds the shield. It can ward off attacks on itself and the area around it, including magic. The Lion can heal all types of damage, including mechanical, and can even resurrect a dead helot or ten.
Little has been written about the offensive options for the Jade Lion, but even in it's oldest role, it was always noted for it's speed and initiative. "

More to follow.

In deference to the Ragnarok theme i would now like to exhibit what is currently known of the Blue Lion.
First up is Brikcydides, who in his own spoiled rich-kid, my family owns a good mine way, does offer an alternate history of the Blue lion's early history.

"The original pilot of the Blue Lion was known as Sven, and was caught outside his mechanical lion unawares by a group of magic users. Horribly injured, Sven retired to the hospital planet of Arus. He was later replaced by his younger, more handsome brother, Ryan."

Though different, Greebledotus has a somewhat modified version:

"The Blue Lion, now called Fireslaght Kottr, was originally piloted by a being known as High White Platinum. This pilot was exceptionally skilled, good looking, and strong. Unfortunately, his luck was to be caught by a dreaded witch outside his craft. Armed with only a light pistol, he managed to shoot out the right eye of his adversary before he was turned into a Holiday mince meat pie. He was later consumed by the witch's demonic children in a devilish ritual.

His brother, whose name is unknown to us, set out to avenge his kin's terrible demise. He travelled to a planet called Altea, with a large retinue of space marines, samurai warriors, and armored robots. Ultimately victorious, the brother then took control of the lion, although now cursed by those dreaded prevaricators of black magic. He was relegated to winter battles and Northern climate operations. The nature of the curse was as follows; since the Blue Lion's attacks were electricity based, the sorcerors tied this to generated heat. This caused the Blue Lion to overheat in almost all conditions, save the coldest. It was after this that the Blue Lion eventually ended up abandoned and lost to the glaciers of time.

When all of the Lions were reunited on the planet Arus, Fireslaght Kottr was the last one brought back. He had apparently ended up on the planet of Gaia, where he was taken care of for many years by the people known as Sami. It was they who appended his current name (Greebledotus references a separate name used only by the Sami).

After reunification, the curse was lifted, and Fireslaght Kottr could finally bear his tremendous offensive capabilities. The Blue Lion has the least amount of combat support and helots, mainly because his followers are relegated to their home planet and are not a space faring people.
Of course, he hardly needs it. His resistance to magic is highest amongst the lions, as is his resistance to cold and electricity based attacks. He can generate and control a powerful electromagnetic field, and uses it to fly, create a defensive block, or cast out like a giant mace.

Fireslaght Kottr can not only invoke lightning anywhere on the battlefield, but can also breathe lightning over a large number of opponents with a chainlike trajectory, leaping through entire battalions. The Blue Lion also has an impressive array of death beams, bladed melee weapons, and traditional guns, cannons, missiles, and rockets. His presence on the battlefield gives all of his teammates an offensive boost irregardless of proximity.

Fireslaght also has a somewhat aloof attitude towards combat, with a reluctance toward his potential damage perhaps limited by his violent past. If a battle goes on for to long, the Blue Lion has been known to withdraw from boredom and return to Gaia, to replenish his soul. "

Edited for syntax.

Greebledotus had less to say about the Red Lion:
"The Red Lion makes up the right arm of the final assembled form of the giant guardian. Originally, it was piloted by a humanoid from the planet of Altea known as Brave Black Iron, whose hot-headedness and combat efficiency were renowned in his time.
In addition to an energy bite, shoulder lasers, and thermite dorsal rockets, the Red Lion also has a variety of heat and fire-based attacks. The massive wave of heat from his mouth is known as the 'pyroclastic flow', and can engulf whole squads of warriors.
In his release from the magical seal that had been placed on all five lions, he became known as Popoki Pele, and resides in a ring of volcanic activity on the planet of Gaia."

Tilophon, who actually fought alongside the Five Lions, wrote at least one detailed treatise on the Red Lion. A remnant of which Grebbledotus was aware of, but apparently not in possession of. It is part of a larger lost work, called 'Golionica':

"Known as Red Lion, he is driven by Isamu. He is autonomous, unless joined as the right arm of the Universal Guardian. Isamu is the highest rated marksman in the entire defense force. As a pilot his performance is rated as 'exemplary '. Only outmatched by his fellow pilots, he qualified to drive the Red Lion after the entire defense force was screened for the best pilots.
In his Guardian form, he holds the Sword of the Ten Kings, a reference to the lineage of royalty on the planet of Altea. Aggressive and brazen, Isamu is almost always the first pilot to enter into combat. His main combat tactic is to directly engage the most powerful opponent he can discern; and then perform a flanking maneuver, trying to blast large numbers of troops with his powerful rocket and laser batteries.
Isamu loves to race the Red Lion, and often be can be found cruising the beaches and oceans of Altea. Only outpaced by the Green Lion, Isamu works closely with the team of engineers and scientists responsible for the upkeep and advancement of the Lion technologies.
Isamu also works closely with the self defense forces to improve his fencing skills and empty hand fighting. Along with Seido, he has developed a set of special techniques, unique to the Guardian final form, that deal with close combat against giant foes. "

From the historians (first, Brikcydides):

"The Yellow Lion packs the most firepower of the four lesser lions. He is piloted by an expert in the martial arts named Hunk. His center mounted shoulder cannon can be loaded for multifarious missions. The 'Broadsides ' attack being one of the more potent of his options. This devastating weapon launches most of the Lions weapons at once, and had horrendous effect on the battlefield. Next to the Black Lion, the Yellow Lion inflicts the most damage with his claws and bite."

Greebledotus gives us greater insight into the awesome weapons of the Yellow Lion:

"As a prisoner of those dreaded conjuring acolytes, I can attest to the power of Simba Ya Ju. I was a witness at the 'Battle of the Racetrack', where, somehow; the Magic Users found themselves owning a racecar team. In a race against the Feline Alliance, things got heated to say the least. The battle happened like this; both teams agreed to outfit their vehicles with a modest assortment of weaponry and technology (how else to make racing more exciting?).
The Sorcerors vehicle was some grotesque amalgam of beast and machine, with frightening weapons, jet engines, and the head of an underworld demon. They called it 'Chag', and it was driven by a high level wizard pilot, and accompanied by a rather large 'Pit Crew'. The Pit Crew was in reality a good number of skeletons, zombies, and even a vampire or two!
The Feline Alliance was represented by Isamu, who was by this time not piloting the now autonomous Popoki Pele. He drove a bright red (of course) Ferrari F-40. It was outfit with light armor, and a single Vulcan style machine gun.
The race started normally enough, with Isamu quickly accelerating past Chag and his entourage. The race was to be 5 laps around an oval track, but was really a trap to entice the five Lions to a fight. Chag's vampires quickly took the initiative and desanguinated Isamu's entire pit crew, turning them into zombie servants.

When that occurred, Isamu immediately put out a galactic radio call for help. As the Pittana brigade was busy suppressing yet another helot revolt, Simba Ya Ju and Popoki Pele were dispatched for aid in battle.

After the call was made, Isamu threw his Ferrari into second gear, rolled for a successful bootlegger reverse; and turned so as to face his now overwhelming enemies.

Opening up with his Vulcan gun, Isamu shredded both his old pit crew and a good number of opponents, including a vampire. 'That's what happens when you roll a twenty, bitches!' Chag's rage was now instigated, and he opened up with his entire arsenal; killing Isamu for what must have the umpteenth time. 'Save that Ferrari, boys!'. You could hear Chag's call to his dreaded minions.

Just after this, the Yellow and Red Lion arrived on the scene. Popoki Pele attempted to wrest Isamu's beloved Italian supercar from Chag's hoardes; while Simba Ya Ju dealt with Chag himself. The Red Lion used his flaming breath to cook zombies and charcoalize skeletons. The smell of burning undead was almost enough to distract from the sound of exploding bone and crisping flesh.

Chag and Simba Ya Ju squared off against each other; with Chag deploying his Hell-Glaive, a rather large bladed weapon imbued with dark energy. Rolling for, and taking initiative, Chag fired up his jet engines and charged the Yellow Lion. Striking him on his left side, Chag also deployed short ranged rockets at Popoki Pele, hoping to engage both lions at once.

Bearing the entire brunt of his charge, the Yellow Lion let loose with what can only be described as the most devastating ballistics attack I've seen. They call it 'Broadsides ', and every functional ranged weapon system is fired in a single direction. In this case, poor Chag was close, and in the way of all the guns. Blasted into oblivion, he could be heard cursing the five Lions, and promising to return. After this incident, at least two lions were dispatched to all races, to insure against further wizard shenanigans. Those are stories for another time. "

From Golionica, Tilophon tells another tale of the Yellow Lion:

"Tsuyoshi drives the Yellow Lion, he has tested as the highest of all pilots in the unarmed martial arts, and pilots in a controlled and technically sound manner. The Yellow Lion makes the left leg of the giant guadian, and engages enemies with a powerful, centrally located mega-cannon. This cannon has the capability to fire various rounds, specialized for general, or specific mission purposes. This Lion is known as the bully-buster, and often confronts the Galranian monsters with the help of the Green Lion; who serves as healer and defensive coordinator. Oftentimes, the Black Lion will not even be needed except against the most challenging foes.
Alone, the Yellow Lion packs a powerful and numerous helot army. His followers employ a variety of guns, grenades, rockets, missiles, and artillery. They are loathe to surrender, and will often die in sacrificial or heroic manners. Technically, his retinue contains an entire platoon of Space Imperialist warriors, a small squad of Sengoku Samurai, a squad of ninja specializing in ballistic weapons, and unknown support craft of alien origin. In fact, although the Black Lion's helot army is well known and defined by me in a later section, the Yellow Lion's extent of helot support is not known at this time. "
