Private hedge fund N/A

"Discovering value in the galaxy's data."

Three Sigma Investments is a quantitative hedge fund that engages in algorithmic, high-frequency trading of securities and other assets. Three Sigma’s approach mainly focuses on using the most cutting edge in machine learning and distributed computing to achieve an advantage over hedge funds and players in the galactic financial markets. It currently has ₮40 trillion Trattorian dollars worth of assets under management.

Like its rival ∂V Capital, Three Sigma only hires elite doctorate-holding experts in mathematics and computer science and pays ridiculously well, giving even lowly summer interns a six figure salary. Three Sigma is much closer to the Silicon Nebula than Wall Street in culture, with casual dress and a relaxed office atmosphere being the norm.

Three Sigma heavily invests in instantaneous quantum entanglement communication for both its distributed computing resources (provided by Misaka Analytics) and to execute its trades, where it has to beat other algorithmic traders on the order of nanoseconds and coordinate its operations across the galaxy from its Trattorian headquarters and New York, New London, San Francisco, and Scythia branch offices. Three Sigma boasts that it can even instantly execute trades in Praetorian markets on planet Shekor in the Omegalon Dwarf Galaxy. Increased competition from other hedge funds, however, has led Three Sigma to hire physicists to research potentially implementing small-scale time travel to allow communication with the immediate future, in order to enable beating instantaneous FTL in the present.

Three Sigma’s AI models, in an attempt to account for the many subtleties of galactic markets, have grown remarkably prescient at predicting major events in the galaxy, although the fund has kept these predictions proprietary to the Trattorian government’s annoyance. Like the Lambda Corporation, Three Sigma’s AI technology has advanced to the point where it has had to testify before the Trattorian Legislature that its AIs are just non-sentient machine learning models and algorithms and thus do not violate prohibitions against sentient AIs.
