The Allied Nations-United Systems Alliance is the full name of the Agreement between those two factions, colloquially refered to as A.N.-U.S. This agreement means that the US does most of the work for the An, in return getting the AN to do whatever the US. wants. This basically makes the AN the United System's bitch.
