"Whitecoats", Lahey's cronies

James "Jim" Lahey, President of the Galacian star Republic James Lahey is the head of state of Galacia, he was elected in GR.2016 which was projected to be a runaway by the defending Tesarik administration, Lahey ran on a vaguely explained agenda of Moderation and opposition to a phenomenon he described as "edgyism" He was treated as a joke by the media due to his incessant alcoholism. but remarkably, he had gained remarkable support from being the frequent subject of extranet memes, as well as catering to a population that heavily valued recreational drink as part of it's culture. Tesarik's popularity was on the downturn towards the end of the campaign, having given a panel of admirals and generals near free reign over the country in martial law, and he had been pushing a very racist agenda against peaches. While Galacians were no friend of peach nations, Galacian society was "tired" of the seemingly eternal conflict with them and public opinion had changed.

The Galacian Election of 2016 took place on the same day as a major sports event, and across the empire, many voters showed up to the polls intoxicated. The next morning Lahey was declared the winner, Riots broke out in several cities and communications were cut for almost two weeks. The outside galaxy being told only of the election's outcome, and many assumed the Empire had broken down into civil war. In reality, communication networks had crashed due to social media overloading the systems.

Almost Immediately, his agenda was disrupted by the Military "Triumvirate", refusing to hand over executive power as the military leaders continued to insist that the Empire was "In Peril" due to the ongoing civil war. Civilian life did improve, Lahey lifted the ban on peach citizenship, and the peach minorities in the central and eastern empire were granted the same rights as non peaches. With the notable exception of Military service. While progressives were annoyed at the military block, Anti-Peach factions at home and across the galaxy were outraged, and their opinions of Galacia changed drastically.

Lahey was able to negotiate a compromise with the Triumvirate, In exchange for the end of martial law and military control over the civilian government, a new position would be created for the "Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces" and would have a permanent seat at the highest table of the government, A group colloquially known as the "Big 5" That then became the Big 6. A group that consisted of the leading figures and ministers representing Foreign Affairs, Domestic Governance, Economy & Trade, Science & Industry, as well as the President himself and now a position reserved for the supreme commander of the military, which was previously handled Jointly by the domestic and foreign policy leaders.

The creation of this new office ensured that the Military was not legally able to take control of domestic policy ever again, but the decision ended up expanding the military's control even more, as the representative who took the seat was Field Marshal Shulga, A physically and psycologically intimidating person who almost immediately coerced the council to give the military free reign over a few districts which they agreed were in danger, as well as dump untold billions of Rubles into modernization of the military that eventually produced one of the largest and best equipped Armed Forces in the entire galaxy when it was nothing more than a minor blip on the radar just one year before. This military was loyal Primarily to it's Generals, and second to the concept of Galacia, and not it's actual civilian leadership. A problem that would come up again in the future.

Basil Pushkin Minister of Economics & Trade

Pushkin is the Minister responsible for heading the Galacian Economy, His taxing policies have been widely unpopular as Systems are taxed on an individual basis. Pushkin's office claims that richer systems are charged more than less fortunate ones, but overall the percentage is more or less the same. Subsidies and tax breaks are awarded to systems that succeed in exceeding production targets for specific resources when they are needed, like Ammunition during wartime or surplus food. His second priority after taxing was employing the citizenry. Every effort was made to provide meaningful jobs for the skilled and unskilled, With the latter usually working in production lines and the latter in the service industry or in supervisor roles in the factory. Regardless of education or income, if a citizen does not have work within 1 year of finishing his state education, he is conscripted into the army or navy for a 2 year period.

Maria Reznikov, Minister of Domestic Affairs

Reznikov is the main spokesperson for the board of regional and planetary governors. These governors create and modify civil laws for the Galacian systems and territories, Domestic affairs works closely with the economy office, but is also responsible for civilian law enforcement, education and practically everything else in the empire that does is not directley linked to any other office. Reznikov faced a major crisis in G.R 2017 after the Mozorov Communist Rebels fled their system, and Galacia was left with a largely lawless system to police, the Military offered only limited support, and within a few weeks the system had fallen into chaos again in the form of the criminal element, Space Mafia Drug Cartels and their enforcer gangs ended up digging into the system

Ivan Konevchichinski, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Konevchichinski, often shortened to just Konev as no one ever wants to try to pronounce his long-winded name. Is the chief diplomat of the GR. His office's policies are largely protectionist, Persuing neutral policies with most foreign powers, staunch opposition to edgy, aggressive or belligerent leaders. However he has worked diligently to create a new coalition or alliance with the primary goal of checking the Third Alliance, and the M-Throne Empire's sphere of influence.

The Whitecoats The Whitecoats is a nickname for a group of planetary governors who were not actually elected, but installed, usually in backwater systems that are remote enough for no one to care. They are Personal friends of Jim Lahey, they are little more than cronies. Most of them wear big puffy white coats, douchebag glasses and hats are optional.

The Triumvirate consists of

  • General Oleksandr Shulga - Commander of land forces West, Hailing from the Sokolov system, Shulga is widely considered by outsiders to be both a political hardliner and a brutal military commander. He has made several violent outbursts directed against foreign leaders in the past. He generally assumes command of the Republic's operations outside the Gold Sector, and leaves Gen. Kazakov to focus on the civil war
  • General Vladimir Kazakov - Commander of land forces South, Hailing from the Elkoss system, Gen. Kazakov is a more stable individual when it comes to dealing with foreigners. He spends most of his time focusing on the troubles at home with the war against Pact forces.
  • Brigadier Stanley Voronin - Commander of Military Research & Development, Hailing from the Caspian system, Voronin is rarely seen in the public eye mainly due to his involvement in the R&D Department of the military. The few times he has made public commentary, he echoed the rhetoric of Gen. Shulga, proving that he is also somewhat of a violent hardliner.

Overseers

While not actual military formations, the Galacian military is divided into three "Classes" Infantry, Mechanized and Advanced Forces. All Galacian military fall under one of these categories, and an Overseer is a high ranking officer that oversees the development and upkeep of their respective groups. There is currentley no overseer of the Galacian Navy.

  • Lt. Colonel William Bryzgalov - Overseer of the Infantry, he oversees the upkeep and development of the regular fighting minifig forces as well as motorized units, and most specialist infantry types.
  • Colonel Gavril Lednev - Overseer of the Mechanized forces, he oversees the upkeep and development of all fighting vehicles, tanks, and aircraft, as well as infantry that is directley attached such as the Airborne troops
  • Colonel Katerina Thunderova - Overseer of the Advanced forces, she oversees the upkeep and development of the Trans-Minifig cybernetic forces, colloquially known as "Shock Troopers", the Republic's unquestionably loyal and brutal heavy infantry forces.

Civil & Non Military

  • Dr. Kirill Radchenko - A retired Army Major who is now head of the Science special projects group, responsible for many important teknological contributions to the GR such as the advent of BT power cores, A number of experimental weapon systems and most of all, the creation of the Trans-Minifig program.
  • Mariana Reznikov - Leader of the Civil Council, She is the highest ranking civilian member of the government, she acts as the main voice for civil issues and lawmaking. In the event of the loss of both the President and Vice President, this position is next in line to be sworn in as an emergency president.
  • Earnest Carville- The leader of Commerce and Industry, more of a builder than a businessman, Carville's main occupation since 2016 has been planning the massive urban redevelopment of Galacia's cities
