X-8 is an alternate reality within the Multiverse where an unknown phenomenon eradicated all space travel somewhere around BR 2009.
All civilizations would become permanently stuck in an early TL5 stage. Forever unable to leave their home system.
As of BR 2018 in X-8. Many civilizations have completely died off or wiped themselves out in war.

The "Rules" of the X-8 Canon are that no faction can ever leave their home star system. If the faction was established before 2009, Canonically, all their colonies would be cut-off or otherwise die. This alternate canon is for players that want to have events, battles and stories that would be set in a modern or post-modern theme, but not be involved in the Space drama of the main canon.
