The hand weapons and infantry are very nice. The shields, bunker, vehicles, all above par.

I would be a bit uneasy on my driveway, but if it's level and low-traffic, I would love to see this battle.
I find that big battles are harder to keep moving, so make sure that each team will hit combat first or second turn.

But then the damage is from whatever is being launched, which could be anything from bombs to a space capsule. Now that I think about it, the launcher could be used to fire vehicles with troops large distances.

If you're me it is. But that's beside the point, minifig weapons are defined to be one inch because there isn't a provision for anything smaller.
A five inch gun is roughly equal to a 30 foot barrel. A gun that size should be able to fire at targets miles away.

The ranges are already too small for the size of the weapon, a normal firearm can fire far more than six times it's length.

Stud counting is best when you have people who are used to different systems of measurement. Otherwise it's easier to think in terms of inches.

Yes, I do like cheese.

I usually use whatever plates I have, but if you have a large number of bigger plates, you could size the rooms to fit the plates.
