New user registrations change - now admin activated

Post by stubby » Thu Mar 30, 2017 9:05 am

Hi everybody - we've had a major upswing in spambot activity over the last couple of days, so for new user registrations I've switched over to manual admin activation for awhile. It shouldn't affect anybody who's already here unless you're making a bunch of alt accounts or something.

that is a fantastic question to which no satisfactory answer will be forthcoming

I've always been of the opinion that all forums should have admin-approved registration for this reason

thanks stubbz!

I have one, but late last year I was thinking of making another.
But then I realized I needed to get a new email address just for that, I couldn't be bothered.

Shame, I kind of wanted to make an alt for the QuantumS̴̘̥̦̜̼̪͎͓̲͟t̛͞҉̲̰̫̭̟͔̝̠͔̙a͍̘̻̦̙̙̣͓̼͖͝͞l̵̷̢̳̱̲̬̻̰̞k͚̪͍̘͔̠̱̣͍͙̗̰̖̩͉̭̞̣̹͠e̘̮̝͓͙̙̝͢͡͠͞ͅͅr̴̸͕̰͕̬̬̳̱̪͉̲̭.

For fun lore purposes!

Do new users get notified that they need to be approved? It could avoid issues in the future by avoiding confusion from people signing up and thinking that they can now post.

I don't know, I haven't approved anybody yet. So far it's been nothing but ban, ban, ban!
