As some of you know, after the massive Lego layoffs last year I've been working on reorganizing things so I can focus more on BrikWars. As a result we've got a finalized version of BW2010 this year (finally) and a whole bunch of progress on the new 2018 edition with all-new Campaign rules.

As part of continuing that push, I've started up a new Patreon! With more than three tiers of possible patronage levels! I'm still paying for all the boring parts of staying alive with freelance illustration work, but this will help smooth out the month-to-month budgeting for those projects where clients wait ninety days to let me know they never had any intention of paying me in the first place (but it's great for exposure!).

While the tier rewards are pretty great and already speak for themselves, I'm open to further ideas. What kinds of things would you want to see in a BrikWars Patreon? Most of the stuff normal people give out as part of their Patreon tiers are things I already give away for free - rules content, development material, sneak peeks, shitpost discussions - but maybe you guys have a better idea of the kinds of things you'd like than I do.

Sounds like a good idea to me! Let me check with She-Who-Controls-the-Budget and I'll see if I can toss in a buck or six.

Well, I'd still like a printed version of the rules one of these days that doesn't require me to, say, buy a new printer and a crapton of ink. But I suspect that's more a long term goal than a Patreon kind of goal. Any chance of getting that spit-take on camera if someone DOES pledge at the $100 level?

Unique or possibly even custom rank badges for people who pledge may be nice, and also basically free, especially if you offload the work onto another admin. Perhaps patreons get some kind of early access to updated rules, or first look at upcoming artwork. Although that would only last as long as you plan to keep updating the rulebook.

That's more a kickstarter kind of goal. Patreon is about keeping the operation running rather than aiming for discrete goals. That being said, now that I'm not bound by a Lego non-complete clause, I'm finally designing the upcoming edition for a print run, and if there's a kickstarter it'll be for all the kinds of things I can't do myself as part of the day-to-day: book layout, publishing, distro, etc.

Obviously. We already got photos of IVhorseman and me licking toilet bowls for pledges of a mere $10, for people who remember that far back, so the precedent is set.

That's some good low-hanging fruit, I just need to think of the funniest way to execute it.

Right now I'm planning on using the patreon posts for behind-the-scenes dev notes and such. There's always going to be new material and ideas in the pipeline, unless I die or something.

2010 book is pretty finalized at this point; I don't foresee any substantive updates to 2010. The 2018 edition is the new hotness.
