Starting out Warhammer 40k

Post by Bonn-o-Tron » Sat Sep 13, 2008 8:05 pm

Finally, I've found other people with an interest in it. I wanted to go Tau, but the local hobby store doesn't have them so I ended up going with Dark Eldar. Ravenous pirates ftw!

Way to go, the only person I know that ever played dark space fairies was an employee, and it was her first army too.

btw, when getting a lser pointer for LOS, don't get one that melts plastic.

I didn't really have a choice, they only had Orks (which one of my friends already plays), Eldars (the other 2 use these) and Dark Eldars.

I play chaos space marines because any modle ever made by games workshop can be slightly modifyed and painted red and black to appear like mutants or hypnotised citizens or traitors to the empire or whatever. (thus you can buy anything on the clearance rack)

I went for imperial guard cuz they're more like traditional soldiers. Midget snipers ftw!!!

Or cutting SM limbs to become smaller and make it easier with the body armour.

Congratulations, you now play the one army that nobody has a damn clue of how to fight against. =P Automatic advantage for you once you get past the ridiculous learning curve DE apparently have....

Besides, Tau are cheesy as hell. At least, in 4th Edition anyway. Curse you and your insanely long ranged infantry weapons! *Shakes fist*

More good news: Sometime within the next year or so, DE are supposed to be getting new models....
Well what've we got here....

Against tau you can just take a really tricked out hoverbike squad with your HQ guy having the portal upgrade. Run straight into the middle of their army and activate the portal. There is now ~50guys tooled for CC in the middle of the shootiest army.

or if your a smart tau player you have most of your squads in Troop Carriers so you can move them while battlesuits fall from the sky and mess up you flimsy hoverbikes with missiles and plasma.
don't forget hammerheads :D

Most tau players I've seen just line up almost all of their firewarriors in the middle with vehicles and broadsides off to the sides. The battle suits are guarding the ethereal which is usally in the back middle. Kroot shouldn't be a problem for dark eldar.

Well, kroot got a lot better in 5th, they have a 2+ save in good cover. and they basically have bolters, so not that bad (unless you flame them)
There are two kinds of tau, static and mech
static is what your talking about, they just have tons of firepower in a line
mech(mechenized(sp?)) is all about mobility and not being in a line
