The streets are remarkably clean and the less crowded compared to the other district. There is a slight shift to the architecture as stonework is more common and everything looks straighter as if drawn with a sharp pen. The buildings are cleaner and look sturdier. Some have doors definitively not made for men.
You only have to pass two corners to reach to find a building that would fit far better to the neighbourhood you just came from than the masterwork buildings that surround it. It is shabby, skew and in desperate need of repairs. In some places the plastering is crumbling. Above the door you see the sign reading

Grimbold's Workshop
repairs of all kinds.

Below it is another sign:

You broke it
We fix it.

No guarantee

The door is closed.

Is the door locked?

No, but it doesn't fit the frame very well and you have to use some force to open it. The inside is dark, dusty and messy. Nobody is there.

I look for any clue as to where the weasel could've scampered off to. A brief departure, out to lunch? Or has the place been empty for some time. Grimbold is the kind of rat with a nose for danger. If he senses the flood waters rising, he'll depart for higher ground and be safe and sound whilst everyone else is still wondering why it's suddenly gotten cold and wet. For now, though, this shabby hellhole will have to serve as a place to go to ground. I say as much to Nebul as I ram the door back in its "frame."

You search around in the gloomy workshop and raise not a littel bit of dust. The only light sneaks in through cracks in the shutters and the door. Tools, materials and unfinished devices of unknown purpose are scattered all over the tables, workbenches, the counter, the floor, everywhere. You have to climb over a pile of junk to reach the other door behind the counter. (Perception:8) Just then you notice a tense piece of string. A tripwire. You take a closer look and follow it to a net hanging from the ceiling.
"Oh, ya found ma booby trap. That won't na help ya. Ya won't na get me coin. Hands up, burglars! Last warning!", a voice hisses hidden in the shadows.

"Grimbold!" I bark angrily. "Show yer shady lil self afore I march over there an beat the livin snot out of ye! I ha' nae the patience fer yer ridiculousness today!" I plant my feet and cross my arms, hoping the bluff will stick with him before he sticks me with a crossbow bolt or something. The moment stretches, tense. I can almost hear whomever is in the shadows mulling it over, doing the math, performing the cost benefit analysis. I do my best to look stern. "Oh, for love of all Grabthar's Handmaidens...look, I dinnae come for your coin. Step out, and you may end up making some."

Kurgen: You hear clothes rustle. then a window openes in the cailing and sun light shines in. Grimbold is sitting in a high chair in a corner, a strange crossbow in his hands. On second glance the chair isn't normal either, but you can't make any sense of all the mechanical modifications in a hurry.
"Fine, if yer dinna come to rob me, Waddaya want from ol' Grimbold?" He measures you three in the dim light.
"Wait a minute. Yer're the ones they're lookin' for. The traitors. Yer here to finish me off next?" He grabs the crossbow tighter again.

"Please sir, the stories they've told you are rooted in the hells. An attempted assassination is only the smallest part of the problems that befall our city.

"Yes, I am the white necromancer with a price on his head. Yes I was there on that night. I was investigating some disturbances that could only be the working of black magics, and found myself being blamed. The king is under a spell of possession, as well as many other members of the lions guard. I do not know how many others may be under control, but there is another, evil necromancer who is pulling the strings. We need time to plan, and that requires a place to stay.

"I am aware that we do not know you, sir Grimbold, but I beseech you for the shelter of your workshop. These problems are greater than any of us, and my company would only require a few days. Staying in one place for too long is dangerous, should our problems take longer to solve, and we would be leaving on our own."

"Don't try to confuse me with your lies. Of course you would'na tell me you're gonna kill the king. Yeah, big conspiracy, sure, whatever you say. Now get lost before I decide to take a shot at da bounty on yer heads."
You notice that his voice is not as stready as he would like it to be.

"Grimbold, you know damn good and well that you'd have a hell of a scrap on your hands if I wanted to fight ye. Ye might come out on top but not without a whole lot of hurtin' and the only healer around lyin' at yer feet. Thas me alone, Dwarf." I stare him down, attempting to back my bluff, play on whatever dregs of pride the sad dwarf has left, and build his confidence in us. "If this boy necromancer were as powerful as the rumors say, able to attack the king, tussle with the Lions, defeat some of those exalted knights, and still somehow leave as unharmed as you seem him before you, you'd be a pile of dust where you sit and you well know it."

I can see him wavering. The crossbow is unsteady. He is currently at his most dangerous. One wrong word or movement and this idiot will open fire. I hope my next words will reach into the core of him and steady his hand, if only by instinct. I go rigid and bark out the traditional words.

"Grimbold Hammerhand, of Clan Cam Beul, on your honor and on behalf of Baldir Stonebrow, of Clan Fionlaigh Mor, I call on you to satisfy your debt to the Ambassador of Twin Thunders!"

The logic of your statement has him thinking, your threat wavering. You last sentence hits him like a hammer. It's a wonder he didn't fall off his chair.
You let the words sink in. Astonishment, then fear and finally resignation dance across his face. Suddenly he looks just old and tired.

"And there I was hoping the old vulcano had forgotten about that one. Blood and Ashes! You must be pretty important if he goes that far. Fine. I may not be what I once was, but I still have some of my honor. Well, look at me, where are my manners? As you may know I am Grimbold, Son of Garbold of Clan Cam Beul, once called the Hammerhand. Nowadays they call me other names. May I ask who I have the pleasure to welcome in my humble home?"

He waits for you to answer.

"I will give you shelter for some days and do all I can to keep you safe and well. Follow me."

He pulls some levers and his chair is pulled upwards by ropes that disapear in a chaos of pulleys and hoists under the roof, and slowly swings to the other end of the room. He openes a door and hops to another chair waiting for him there. It is hard to miss the fact that his legs end in stumps where his knees should be. He guides you down some stairs and a dim storeroom with paneled walls. Like the rooms upstairs the best words to discribe its content is junk, its arrangement chaos. He slaps one panel sharply and it swings inwards. The room behind and below it is small and narrow, but should accommodate two people with room to spare. It seems to be fairly empty apart from the omnipresent junk. A thick layer of dusk covers the floor and the walls are full of cobwebs.

"Here it is. Don't ask why I have this room. Just be happy that it is here. I regret that I can*t show you around myself, but, well, I think you will do fine. You should be fine walking around here in the basement but I stongly suggest that you stay inside this chamber as much as possible. Better safe than sorry. Beware the ceiling. It's made for dwarves, not you large folk. There is a candle on the board over there. I will see to it that you get some food and a bucket. Is there anything else you need?" He faces Kurgen.
"What about you? Will you stay with them?"

When I give my name, I give him only "Kurgen" with my clan name conspicuously absent. It's not an uncommon practice among us Dwarves, exactly, reserving knowledge of our ancestry for those who have earned the honor. It's a somewhat outdated practice in the modern age, however. Low birth rates, concentrated culture (such as the embassy here in this city), and a complicated social etiquette shared among many of the Dwarven Clans, have all conspired to reveal our names and lineages to one another regardless. Like how I knew of Grimbold before our meeting. In any case, he knows I am honorbound to share that knowledge at a future date if he follows through here. For now, though, "Kurgen" will do just fine. He can ask around anywhere he likes. I am well known among the Dwarves here now and I am known to some of the peoples of this city.

I'm fairly surprised myself. Calling upon that oath reminded me strongly of my father. I felt the iron in his voice shaped around my own for a moment. Hell, I hadn't realized I still even knew the traditional words. It takes me a moment to pull myself from that rigid formality. I'm surprised at myself in other ways as well. Clearly, being a part of the colony gave me the ability to think for myself. It made me a little strange by Dwarven standards, sure, but it also helped to forge me into the person I am today. And I take pride in who I have become. Certainly, Baldir and crew saw worth in me or I wouldn't be standing here now. But being back in amongst our traditional societal artifacts has also clearly brought much of my strict upbringing rushing back. And there isn't anything wrong with my Clan's old creed: "Of Stern Mind and Body," of course, but it seems that with the return of those practical attitudes came the absolute and useless prejudices of my father. And my respect for Baldir blinded me to his own slight bias. Dwarves...we are always harshest 'gainst ourselves. I should know better. When I see his legs, inwardly, I feel a rush of shame and anger at myself. Slimeball he may yet turn out to be but I should make my own judgement on it in time. I cannot help but feel some admiration for him that he has found a way to continue on and that he yet responds to the call to honor. I have been unfair. And after all the men and women I've treated, no less. Many Dwarves, especially those in the warrior caste, if indeed that's what Grimbold was, would have gone for a swim.

"...you? Will you stay with them?"

"For a time, if I may. But then I must report back to the "old vulcano" and seek the others before I return." I grin, letting him know I mean no harm in the jibe, and clasp his forearm. "You have acted well today, Grimbold, and I have misjudged you. I will nae make tha mistake again. Thank you."

"Fine with me. It shames me to ask, but If you will, Kurgen, I could use a hand with the preparations. As you can see I'm not really prepared to host guests, but I have some furniture and stuff upstairs. It's just a pain to move it downstairs using just the pulleys." And you can see it really pains him to ask for help directly.
"And you, my guests, If there is anything you need, just ask and I will see what I can do."

If you agree to help him, you will show you a room with some simple mattresses and blankets and simple boxes that will make for makeshift tables and similar stuff.
If you want to speak privately that can also be arranged.

By the look of it, Brandon and Nebul will stend much time down here and it could become very boring. What are you planning to do?
What will Kurgen do afterwards?

Wingnut? Good question. My guess? RL problems, since he hasn't been online since June.
