I have never beaten this game, but I've tried easily over a hundred times now. It's a roguelike that functions more or less along the same lines as nethack, except it's actually user-friendly. booty bothered, if you're reading this, install this NOW.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup version 0.6.0 character file.

You were on level 6 of the Dungeon.
You worshipped Trog.
Trog was greatly pleased with you.
You were starving.

You collected 252 gold pieces.

My best:

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup version 0.6.0 character file.

11185 AIRMAN the Conjurer (level 11, -1/56 HPs)
Began as a Kenku Air Elementalist on May 17, 2010.
Was a High Priest of Sif Muna.
Slain by a hill giant
... wielding a +0,+0 giant club
(37 damage)
... on Level 12 of the Dungeon on May 18, 2010.
The game lasted 01:38:17 (23079 turns).

You were on level 12 of the Dungeon.
You worshipped Sif Muna.
Sif Muna was exalted by your worship.
You were hungry.

You visited 3 branches of the dungeon, and saw 14 of its levels.

You collected 962 gold pieces.
You spent 56 gold pieces at shops.

I was worshipping Sif Muna, so I had a whole shitload of good casting skills, and I found four different spellbooks. I was also cruising around with a +2 Blowgun and a badass +2,+3 longsword of Holy Wrath. I was the shit up until that hill giant.

This is 100% easier to use.

My current main guy is
level 4 Ghoul necromancer with
2 spell books and
that necro god , animate remains
dagger of +5 protection
ring +6 INT which was an awesome find since a ghoul starts with 11 STR, 10 INT

I love the message that pops up after meat rots in my pack.

Mmm something smells good!

I had one game that lasted less than 30 turns. The starting area was a small room with a door. I open the door and there are two guys that see me :(

Yredelemnul
(I had to look up the spelling)

Its the only alter I have found.

Wearing scale armor and a helm and dagger I'm at AC13 :)

I got the dagger from a named guy. In the description of the guy, it said the dagger was glowing. It was a tough fight but I had 2 skeletons fighting with me to distract him.

If I had to guess, I'd say Jessica gave it to you. At least it's not Sigmund.

Sigmund is a dick.

The name was just some random letters like the scrolls have but shorter. Maybe 5 or 6 characters.

Wait, this is easier than Nethack? Darnit IV, now I have to download it.

Who said anything about easy? I just said it was user-friendly. If you find a magic item, for example, you have no idea what it does other than it being "runed" or "glowing" until you use it, when you find out whether or not it's cursed or if it bursts into flames. and after that, it's STILL a while before you find out if it's actually any good stat-wise

Well sorry. I meant 'easier to comprehend and not die due to misinterpretation of controls' easy.

well in that case, yes. The tutorial is actually really well made and easy to use.

So I found a shop, it only sells stuff.

Are there shops that buy your stuff? Or do both.

Nope, shops never buy things from you. The only gold you ever get is what you find in the dungeon, so don't worry about carrying expensive stuff with hopes to sell it later.

Ah, thats important info. Its a big change from the other games.
Although I suppose its one less thing to worry about, what to carry /what to drop.

I do love the "o" key.
