Black Ops 2
I've said for years that they would eventually set COD in the future, and it looks even worse than I expected.

I honestly wouldn't be suprised if they made that, right after MW79.Zupponn wrote:Oh yeah! Call of Booty: Black Cops 2! I've been waiting for this my whole life!

Re: Black Ops 2
I had little hope for something good, but it was plain disappointment to see that trailer. Looks cheap, old despite the near-future setting and actually worse than any previous CODs. Somehow seems like weak competition for Ghost Recon Future Soldier.

You are far too kind, BFenix.BFenix wrote:Somehow

Re: Black Ops 2
My beef with it is just that it's not far-future enough. Call of Duty is about playing the gimmickiest strategy that you can come up with, and while getting enough kills to call in a derpy looking APC with legs might be pretty funny, getting those kills by incinerating three guys with a continuous stream of plasma and impaling the next two on your lightsaber (suck it, Lucas) bayonette just felt like the obvious next step.

Re: Black Ops 2
This plot is so boneriffic I don't even...
Every standing army *needs* a core of human soldiers and a core of logisticspeople servicing them, all that technology (from swords to tin cans to giant doom robots) can do is increase either the number of overall soldiers or the proportion of those soldiers that are actually fighting.

I was actually hoping that they were going to continue where they left off at the end of the last one and stay in the same time period.

Re: Black Ops 2
I'm glad to get rid of the Black Ops plot. If I ever hear another goddamn thing about the numbers Mason-what-do-they-mean...
So by that logic, technology can increase the number of overall soldiers from zero to one. On that note I actually think that the game could have a pretty fun plot from what we've seen of it. I'm honestly more excited to see what guns are in it. They better still be using the AK in 2025...Keldoclock wrote:Every standing army *needs* a core of human soldiers and a core of logisticspeople servicing them, all that technology (from swords to tin cans to giant doom robots) can do is increase either the number of overall soldiers or the proportion of those soldiers that are actually fighting.

Re: Black Ops 2
Low intensity conflict, peacekeeping operations, and counter-terrorism are times where you would almost certainly need humans, as these things deal with a whole bunch of decisions that hinge heavily on emotions. You'll always need boots on the ground, and I honestly doubt a situation of total war will *ever* occur again in our lifetimes, at least nothing like the prior wars- the modern battlefield focuses on mobility and human objectives- there is no point building, say, fortifications except as distractions or symbols of power- if objectives are elsewhere you can go around any physical fortification.
I really do think that as time continues to march on the *only* kind of war we will see are low-intensity conflicts composed of nations allied (at least tentatively) against terrorist elements outside existing governments. Robots, drones, whatever will all have their places augmenting the existing militaries and police forces but they will never replace people, at least not until the inevitable day that the Robot Overlords assert their dominion

War will eventually become out of style and each nation will play Future Sport to determine political conflicts.

Re: Black Ops 2
Don't worry, war never changes. There's likely gonna be something big and bloody and devastating in our lifetimes. Walls and other fortifications may be useless now, but killing millions of civilians will always be tantalizing to warlords.Keldoclock wrote:

I just saw an add, the horses intrigue me.
An army marches on its stomach, and its favorite food is fudge.
