Hey, you're… LET'S FIGHT! (Turn 0.5)

Post by Quadruple.Digits » Wed Mar 25, 2015 4:05 pm

Turn 0.5
This being Turn 0 and some minor actions

We open the scene to a standoff of epic proportions…
Image

While everyone is staring at everyone else, prioritising targets and such, the teleporter sparks…
Image

And emits a solitary shifty figure.
Image

He lurks in a corner, waiting for something to happen.
Image
What a creep.

Meanwhile, two gentlemen enter a bar.
Image
Image
There is no punchline.

Likewise, several military figures enter from the adjacent room.
Image

They inspect the scene.
Image
Strangely, no-one recognises the helmeted figure. He's in disguise, see.

Since no-one else seems to be making a move, the Chrome Knight (who is rumoured to be a certain Silvadream) sets off, with intent of a chivalrous beginning to this brewing conflict.
Image
Image

"You disrespect the sensibility that women should not be soldiers. Have at ye!"
Image
And so, he gives her what-for with his glove gauntlet.
This was actually a thing: knights would start duels by slapping each other with their gauntlets. Ladies would (sensibly) throw their glove down instead. This was later adopted by both genders as the 'proper' method of challenging someone to a duel, and as such we now "throw down the gauntlet". :rtfm:

Due to establishment regulations, as soon as a blow is struck it is officially announced as a 'fight' by the barkeep. Once a fight is declared, weapons are free, and all rules go out the window (apart from attacking said barkeep or the band. You have to have standards, you know.)
Image
Rody immediately follows this protocol.

"Attention all customers! There is currently a fight underway in the main common room. Please evacuate the area if you wish to avoid injury. The Four Rums would like to remind customers that it is no way liable for any injury, dismemberment or death that occurs on the premises. Concerned individuals should be reminded that in the case of said injury, dismemberment or death, The Four Rums has an on-site cloning facility, whose faculties are available for a small fee. Thank-you.

No-one is quite sure why this announcement has to be made. It is rumoured to be a service put in place to ensure honest, paying customers always know the location of the nearest bar fight on the premises.

Regardless, a half-crazed man bursts through the doors.
Image
Sorry, make that a full-crazed man. Known in these parts as Truff the Smashheadkiller, he's a regular patron, notable for the fact that he believes he's an orc, and no-one can persuade him otherwise. (Not even the actual orcs.)

In order to attempt to worsen rectify the situation, the terror khan known as 'Chan' steps forward.
Image
Image
Image
Only to be teleported away, with a certain Space Shark captain taking his place.

While this is happening, everyone with holdout weapons quickly draws those weapons.

The mage (who appears to be Vami, but no-one can quite tell) quickly whips up a spell.
Image
Image
Aha, his 'Copycat' cantrip is super effective! (Now everyone's mostly sure it's Vami, but still not quite certain.)

Warhead also whips up a spell, significantly more potent than Vami's…
Image
He summons half a dozen generic skeletons, but I forgot pics :|

And a lone figure takes initiative and makes a dash for the weapons.

Oh yes and signups are still open.
Needless to say, you can't choose someone else's character, or someone who is dead.

Observe the signup thread.
Following the rules for signups posted there, you request a character (or faction, in larger battles) from those made available by the host.
If any additional information is required, you can also submit this information.

These rules are pretty universal, however this battle is somewhat unique in that it has an unlimited number of available characters. Most battles only have a dozen or so available factions, so it's first come, first served.

If you sign up late (after turn 0/1 has been posted), this is generally considered a 'late-entry character/faction' OR a 'secret character/faction'. Secret factions are generally more popular (as late entries just turn up late, mop up the weakened foes, and steal the glory) but with them you are subject to the host's mercy with the selection. However, secret factions tend to be much more entertaining.

From there, once your character/faction is integrated into the battle by the host (i.e.. if they're on the field and ready to fight), you then send 'orders' via private message as to what you want that character/faction to do. These can be ranging from the vague (shoot anyone who gets close and steal their guns) to the specific (get my ninja to sneak behind the enemies, steal their guns, then give the guns to my soldiers who shoot said enemies with their own guns). However you post the orders, the host is bound to twist them to his/her own motives/sense of humour, so take it with a pinch of salt.

That should be all the basics covered.

Somebody should sticky a topic with that post in it at the top of the Forum Battles forum.

Still waiting on orders from Brickguy and Warhead.
If orders are not sent in the next week, expect those characters to default for the turn.

These two aren't exactly known for being around regularly anymore. I would not wait.

True. You could just get started, controlling them on the turns they don't show up, and then simply taking their orders whenever they show up to post them.

Sound advice. Turn 1 proper shall commence shortly.

You could also do it Assault on Goatse Bunker style, where there's not a turn order, and instead turns are just played as the players submit new orders. In that case the less interested players move less frequently, and the more interested carry the game forward. It depends on what works best for you, though.

I'd personally go for that, seeing the amount of players participating.

Shouldn't everyone be dead by now? :D

I agree with the reasonable suggestions above. Don't wait on anyone, just be awesome.
