Long Hard Road (Intro + sign-up)

Starkeep, stronghold of the usurper Knight-Marshal Cales, who now calls himself emperor...
Draklon Matriarch: "Everything is going according to plan, my dear emperor. My raiders are pushing into the Kingdom from the West, razing every village. Even the city of Andelmere has fallen."
Cales: "... and with the death of Marshal Marnix, the Bulls are unable to oppose us here in the East. Has the capital fallen yet?"
Matriarch: "We found it abandoned. The King must have learned of the Urban Guard's deceit... The members of the Urban Guard had been left behind, embedded on spikes."
Cales: "The King is resourceful. I did not expect to be rid of him so easily. Where did he take his people?"
Matriarch: "There's only one direction he could go. North, into the mountains, along with all of the civilians... We lost track soon. If he's using magic to erase his tracks..."
Cales: "Then you won't be able to find him. But someone else might..."
Cales: "Send out your Demonspawn riders."
"Hrrr."
The Capital's Helm Mountains, three days off the fortress of Greaves' Height...
King: "With the Urban Guard gone, we lack the manpower to defend the city. Retreating to Greaves' Height may give us a fighting chance."
The king's personal guard is limited, but traveling with him are several formidable heroes. Whence they came is unclear, but then this isn't the first time the king has enlisted help from Brik knows where. The people however, care more about having protectors than their origins.
Though he's magically eluding his pursuers, the King constantly has scouts patrolling the perimeter. The Capital Mountains are home to worse threats than Draklon Raiders alone...
The scouts' horses stop and neigh, shifting restlessly.
"What is it?"
"I'm not sure."
"Grrr."
"ROAR!"
"Mother of Brik!"
"Aaah!"
*chomp*
*clang*
Lego Lass: "Eat this!"
*Skreee!*
Drakon the Whirlwind: "What is it?"
Lego Lass: "A scout!"
Drakon: "We're being attacked!"
King: "All riders to the front of the column!"
Neckbeard the Dwarf: "I'm a rider! Get me a horse!"
The King rushes onward, with Drakon close by his side. Behind him gallop his elite heavy knights, along with Neckbeard and all the guardsmen that managed to find a horse.
Lego Lass perches herself on a rocky outcropping and knocks an arrow, awaiting the enemy...
... which appears soon over the hill. It's a force of mainly Demonspawn and other unnatural creatures.
They are joined by a matriarch and a small group of Draklon raiders.
As well as an imperial captain and some mounted crossbowmen.

Objective: drive off the attackers.

Objective: kill the defenders, then slaughter the refugees.
Stats will be sent. Turn order is by order of PM's.
