Background
Previously



A peaceful bandit camp in the ruins of an old lighthouse.



Their captain surveys their slice of the world. Things are looking up for the group.



This isn't a suspicious skeleton.



"Sir!" a lookout shouts from the tower, "I've been looking out into the endless ocean on this clear day for hours and only just now noticed a passing boat!"



"Sir! They are landing!"



It is Mathias and the Vennicians! Masters of the sea, they have arrived first!

Mathias plants his own banner on the sand while his men disembark.

"First," he states simply.



"Mathias! You scoundrel!" Arthur shouts toward the beach. His men have wandered the coast in secrecy and arrived just in time.



"The time of battle is upon us! Prepare to mee the foe!"



A silent rider appears nearby...



It is Lord Yoshiie! The advance party of the Shogunate forms up.



"'Ey! I'm here, the rest of you can turn around!" the arrogant voice of Wymer, Barbarous and Unholy, carries on the breeze.



The Areterians arrive on a battle wagon.



Lastly, Akhilleus cuts through the forest with some heavy infantry.

"So, this is the place?" he says.



"Sir! What do we do!" a mercenary hesitantly asks his captain.



"We fight, of course."



On the walk to the lighthouse a ghostly figure appears.

"Ah, finally," it's voice oozes softly, a whisper and a dagger.

Turn 2

Individual combats will be run for several rounds each turn to reduce chances of stalemate.

There were MANY crit fails.



The bandits successfully dance away from combat and take defensive positions as close to the stairs as they can get.



Three archers take aim from the tower.



A Vennician crossbowman is slain.



The other takes very careful aim...



And he crit fails, dropping his crossbow into the sea.



The battle is rejoined. Steelaxe and Mathias duel for several rounds but they remain unharmed.



The spearman, however, draws blood.



A Vennician joins the breach...



And he crit fails, losing his axe on his backswing.



Akhilleus sprints through the vines easily, joined closely by one Myrmidon. The other tripped over a barricade in his haste.



With outstanding sprint rolls the heavy infantry are up at the line.



The other three, with little to offer and still far away, form a shield wall to try and stop the Shogunate from cleaning up their rear.



"Wagon Captain!" Wymer shouts, "Do you measure this field the way I do?"

"Aye!" the captain calls gleefully.



The wagon lumbers swiftly toward the palisade, building MOMs as it goes.



Crash! The spinning blades whirl and the entire wagon flies into the wall!



The men tumble forward as the wagon is stopped dead in its tracks by an obscenely high POP roll.



Two soldiers are disrupted on the inside of the wall.



A crossbowman regains composure and kills the last Vennician on the dock.



"Everything is up to me, I suppose," Wymer grumbles.



Using his trusty warg, Wymer vaults over the wall and enters the fray! He fails miserably to deal damage and now a 3-way melee ensues.



Arthur prepares to jump...



He lands safely on the parapet. (Success)



He ignores the demon, for now, and checks out the interior of the tower. He finds a dying cookfire and the creaking stairs to the top.



Meanwhile, the infantry slowly crawl across the rocks.



Elsewhere, these men try to engage Yoshiie.



Yoshiie, however, has other ideas. He quickly grabs his sword and pole-vaults off his mount...



... landing on top of the tower! (Success)



He yeets the crossbowman off the tower. He lands head first with a crunch.



The Shogunate officer positions his men to intercept the charging Liossans and form a line against the waiting Archohellenic shield wall.



Three crit fails occur at once.



And the Shogunate takes advantage. The archer's shot whizzes off target.



The crossbows score hits but deal little damage.

Send orders for Turn 3!

Turn 3



"Hm"



The archers charge Yoshiie, hoping to throw him from the tower.



He easily parries them away. They fall against the battlements with a thud.



Steelaxe, tired of the consistent back and forth with Mathias, winds up a mighty blow.



It lands! Mathias is thrown backwards by the force, and he loses 1HP (1 remains).



The Spearman is cheered by his captain's great success...



He scores a kill, also.



Mathias stands, furious. There are just two of them left.



He runs forward, stealing a sword from the infantryman...



He spins as he charges, a flurry of steel.



But he crit fails and falls headfirst into a bush (Failure).



The heavy infantry advance on the Shogunate troops, but their shield walls prove impenetrable after many rounds.



Akhilleus meets Wymer in battle. Wymer drops his spear as they duel and soon after is grievously wounded, losing 1HP (1 remains).



Spearman meets his end when the Myrmidons rush through the palisade.



Woodaxe, however, uses his response to avenge his comrade.



He's quickly engaged by the second Myrmidon. They fight for several rounds and Woodaxe crit fails, losing his axe.



Arthur rips down the rickety stairs and uses it to barricade the entrance to the tower.



He approaches the demon, who speaks thus:

"I am Arthur," he replies, "and I seek a great treasure here.

"I will show you power, demon," Arthur says nobly, "and you will see I am worthy."



He leaps into the air, ready to strike.



The Demon, unphased, raises his own sword against the Liossan hero.



Their blades meet with great force!



Arthur sits slowly, dazed, ears ringing from the impact.



He hears a cold laugh on the breeze...

(Arthur's action roll went Over the Top and thus satisfied the demon's test)



The Liossan infantry headbutts the Shogunate warrior, hoping to stab him in the eye with the javelin.



It does not work.



A crossbowman gets revenge.



The rest of the infantry make their way across the rocks.



The leader throws his javelin into a disrupted Areterian and kills him.



This disrupted trooper stands and gathers the gear he can find around him.



He doesn't have time to attack, he hears the familiar sound of spinning and tearing...



The battle wagon rips through the palisade, the saw blades chewing the wood to sphincters. The Vennician successfully bails to safety.



The crossbows take aim but can't deal damage.



Wymer fends off blows from Akhilleus but struggles to fight back.



He leaps backwards over the palisade to regroup.



The last Shogunate archer finds Yoshiie's horse.



His shot, however, sails wide.



The nearby infantry assaults the crossbows.



One down, one to go.



While the shield walls duel hopelessly, the officer flanks to the right, catching the line off guard.



After nearly 20 rounds of combat, the officer prevails.



Yoshiie cannot waste even a moment, so he scoops the bandit's bows off the tower as he runs toward the treasure.



The bows land in the water while Yoshiie takes position between Arthur and the weapon.



He attacks! Arthur is wounded, losing 1HP (1 remains).





Overwatch.

Send orders for Turn 4!

Turn 4

The "Something Bad" rule was honored this turn to speed up some combats. It usually leads to removed limbs and such.



The forgotten smith grins mischievously. He fiddles with the makeshift barricade for a few moments...



...and he proudly shows off a brand-new war club!



He dutifully brings it to Woodaxe.



Before Woodaxe can use the club the Myrmidon is attacked by Steelaxe!



He cuts off the Myrmidon's shield hand!



Woodaxe joins in but his strike goes nowhere.



"Hm," the archers say again.



They start tearing at the stonework.



"Huh? What was that?"



Splat



Mathias, even more furious, grabs Wymer's lost spear.



He runs Steelaxe clean through! (Steelaxe had chances to parry/counter but failed)



"Who's next??"



Akhilleus readies his spear...



He throws it into the vines where it sticks with a thunk.



He sprints forward and leaps up to the spear...



... and he vaults right into Yoshiie! (Success)



"Hey," the disarmed Heroes sigh.



Woodaxe kills the Myrmidon on a counter.



The heavy infantry captain steps up next.



Despite the promotion to Officer, Woodaxe meets his end.



The remining Archohellenes retreat from the shield wall successfully and one engages the Shogunate Officer.



The hoplite is victorious.



"So, um, I will have the honorable honor of honorably taking the honorable weapon..."



The Shogunate has possession of the Artifakt



A cold wind blows in from the sea, uncharacteristic for this time of year. The water bubbles and foams unnaturally.



The imprisoned skeleton begins to rattle and shake...



It bursts free!



Zoom! A powerful beam of light blasts from the bubbling sea straight into the battle wagon in a fit of fire and smoke.



A cloaked figure, wreathed in shadow, steps out of the surf.



Around it advance the legions of dead.



A tall skeleton leads even more up the beach.

"𝕿𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖇𝖊𝖑𝖔𝖓𝖌𝖘 𝖙𝖔 𝖒𝖊!" it hisses into the cold wind.



Unaware of the new danger, the Shogunate infantry kills the last Liossan crossbow. The mounted archer behind him misses again.



The other infantry flank the hoplites.



They are able to kill one.



Yoshiie considers his options.



He strikes at Akhilleus and... (to be continued)



The Liossans hold the dock. They throw javelins at the nearby Heroes but can't harm them.

Arthur jumps to his feet and... (to be continued)



The surviving Areterians run toward the palisade, hoping to make the dock.



This Liossan didn't use his action so he jumps in to stop the Areterians.



He scores a kill but is immediately engaged by Wymer, who has grabbed the only weapon he could find... the same javelin just thrown at him.



He is only able to disarm the Liossan of his shield.

... and now, the conclusion of the Heroes Duel.



Three things happen at once:
Arthur tries to leap off Akhilleus' shoulder.
Akhilleus makes ready to bring his shield down on the bridge to destroy it.
Yoshiie taps into the magik inside the axe and begins to float away.



The bridge shakes with the impact. Arthur finds himself in the air with no target. Yoshiie peacefully ends up 5" away from where he started.



The bridge roars and breaks, stones falling toward the surf with Akhilleus in tow. Arthur tries to shoot Yoshiie but misses.



Everyone is falling. Yoshiie tries to use more magik...



Akhilleus and Arthur bob on the surface. If they don't get out or out of their armor they will drown!



Yoshiie barely lands safely on the remains of the bridge.





Overwatch.

Send orders for Turn 5!

Turn 5



The smith starts fiddling with the stairs



"Don't need this," he says casually, tossing the stairs down the stairs.



He props up the ladder and then leaps to the top, just barely making it.



The ladder clatters to the floor as he pulls himself up.



"Let us fight this undead menace together!" Mathias shouts



Meanwhile, the Liossan infantry jump into the boat...



Full speed ahead toward the floundering heroes!



Arthur ditches his armor and hauls himself up...



Then he reaches for Akhilleus....



and he throws the Archohellene into the sky!



Akhilleus wrestles for the weapon! (Success)



The heavy infantry advance with Mathias.



The mounted archer screeches to a halt.



He sprints toward the undead, right by the vicious melee.



After several rounds both Shogunate troops have crit-failed and lost their swords. One dies to a skillfull counter.



The remining Areterians join the line.



The heroes wrestle for the axe, Akhilleus' momentum pulling Yoshiie toward the water.



Both heroes unconsciously activate the weapon's SN power and begin to glide toward the ground.



Crash!



Bump! Oof!



"Hm."



Surprise attack by the Shogunate infantry!



"We are busy!"



"Where were we?"

The infantryman is alive and unharmed.



The undead advance. The sorcerer draws power for a mysterious spell...



The living brace for battle.





Overwatch.

Ready for orders for Turn 6 and "beyond." Turn 6 will be the final turn.

Orders for Archohellenium and Shogunate are most important as they fight for control of the artifakt.

Turn 6 (Finale)



Yoshiie leaps for the artifakt...



But Akhilleus went for Yoshiie (Success!)



The Archohellenium has the Artifakt



Akhilleus swats Yoshiie into a nearby tree...



... and he walks off the battlefield

The Archohellenium has successfully captured the Artifakt



The undead crowd the opening of the palisade.



"This doesn't look good," says Mathias.

"Mm," Wymer affirms.

"Should we take the boat?" Mathias asks



"Probably not," Wymer sighs.



The brave heroes only have one option.



The remaining Shogunate troops make their getaway.



Meanwhile, the trapped bandits watch a battle carriage slowly rise out of the sea.



"Where is my artifakt?"
