Agreeing to Xalen's demand for a public trial, a delegation of knights from each of Kerrat's knightly orders confronts High Magister Junatan outside of the gates of the Magister's Palace.
Sir Xalen repeats his accusations against the mage and effective ruler of Kerrat, backed up by his witnesses Belen and Nimoë.
Junatan: "Xalen has played you all, my friends. Once he is done with me he will turn on you. If the necromancer Phineus is indeed defeated, then what happened to his staff, the source of his power? Has Xalen told you that? No doubt, he has it and means to take control of the undead army himself!"
Xalen: "The staff is hidden out of reach, and that's how it will stay. Once we are done here, we should look for a way to destroy it, and the cursed undead, for good. In the meantime, I will remain under the knightly orders' supervision."
Lord Goeting, leader of the Crimson Knights: "The knightly orders will convene to decide the outcome of this trial. Junatan, you are to remain inside the Magister's Palace and await our verdict."
Later that day, the knightly orders' representatives return to the palace...
Lord Goeting: "Junatan, the justicars have agreed that Sir Xalen is speaking the truth and that you are guilty of treason against the people of Kerrat and its knightly orders, conspiring with our enemies, as well as crimes against the Kingdom of Westeron. You will face either exile, imprisonment or execution. On that matter, we're undecided. For now, you must surrender your staff and agree to be confined until judgement is passed."
Junatan: "Poor, misguided creatures. I made that deal with the elves to save us! They made a similar deal with Sir Cales of Westeron, now Emperor Cales I. His Empire has already risen on the ruins of the old kingdom. Our civilization will be similarly crushed under his heel if we choose to oppose him."
Knight: "You knave! You were ready to sacrifice our people and spill our blood because you thought we'd be too cowardly or incapable of defending our land? I argued for your exile, but I see now that execution is less than you deserve!"
Junatan: "Very well..."
"Watch out, he's casting a spell!"
"Thanks, Dick Tracy."
Junatan: "I offered you salvation, but you chose damnation!"
"Crap! Battle Droids!"
"John!"
"Err- Desert Golems!!!"
"So Junatan was behind these creatures' attacks all along..."
Xalen: "Nimoë? You're siding with him? You upheld your part of the bargain, you're free to go!"
Nimoë: "That's right, but I have nowhere to go if I betray my cause. My way back to my people starts with the culling of yours."
"They're everywhere! Defend yourselves!"
