This was a relatively small forum battle held via Discord chat.

TURN 0

While the Royal Guard is using the old ruins as their training ground...

Image

The Black Falcons show up. They demand their rightfull pay, the Keepers Honour, for defeating a group of thugs the other day.

Image

Just as Alderic once again refuses to pay up, Cedric shows up with 4 of his men.

"Come now, Alderic. The Keepers Honour is a ruling as ancient as Vymbourne itself. You can't just get rid of stuff like that."

Image

Alderic has 9 soldiers at his disposal to defend the Armoury, which houses the royal funds.

Image

Image

Civilians follow mob rule, which means everyone (players and anyone else in the chat) can send in orders for them.

Chests and barrels can be openend by anyone to find loot. A d6 will decide how usefull the discovered item is.

Image

Image

Initial overview

Image

There's 3 factions:
- The Falcons, 5 total (incl. 1 hero)
- The Bulls, 5 total (incl. 1 hero and 1 archer)
- The Royals, 10 total (incl. 1 hero, 2 heavies and 1 archer)

Bulls and Falcons work together to loot treasure from the Armoury, but may potentially turn on each other.

TURN 1

Initiative is rolled: Royals first, then Bulls, then Falkons

TURN 1 - Royals

Alderic instructs his men to attack.

The crossbowman moves along the wall to shoot the Falcon hero, but critfails and falls down

Image

Disrupted but unharmed

Image

The heavies move up. One of them is unable to reach the falcons this turn

Image

The other swings his weapon to tear down the wall on the falcons. Unfortunately, only a few briks come loose

Image

Alderic moves to attack the bulls. Two of his spearmen follow behind, initiating a charge attack.

Image

The 2 dudes with the long spears also initiate a charge attack at the bulls

Image

Alderic attempts to shatter some of Cedric's equipment. But the Bull hero reacts quickly and destroys Alderic's shield instead (feat failed)

Image

A heroic duel between Alderic and Cedric begins. The General strikes, and Cedric is unable to parry with his shield. One of Cedrics men redshirts to soak up the lethal damage.

Image

On his counterattack, Cedric critfails. A sudden wave of cockiness washes over him - he discards his shield.

"I'll beat you fair and square next round, old man".

Image

TURN 1 - Bulls

The two heroes briefly interrupt their melee to allow the Royal Spearmen to complete their charge. Both clash into the one remaining Bull spearman.

Image

Smashing into each other, both the Bulls and the Royals are down a man.

Image

From the corner of his eye, Cedric sees two more spearmen charging.

"DO NOT INTERRUPT MY DUEL"

He grabs Warrick, the axefighter, by the helmet and yeets him at the charging foes.

Image

Instead of bowling the royals, Warrick lands slightly off-target.

Image

Poor rolls for the Bulls so far. Can the crossbowman end this unfortunate streak? He opens the chest and a d6 decides what he finds.

Image

Its... a red flag?

Image

The banner of the Bull clan, ofcourse! Reinforcements arrive immediately.

"I came as fast as I could."

Image

"HIYAAA"

The fresh fighter immediately axes the Royal Spearman nearby.

Image

Meanwhile Mathilda is losing her shit from all the violence and blood

Image

To finish the bulls turn, Cedric and Alderic continue their duel. Cedric swings his sword, rolls an Over The Top, which prompts the Heavy to jump in for a redshirt sacrifice.

Image

Alderic then lands the counterattack, and Cedric is just barely saved by his armor roll.

Image

TURN 1 - Falcons

"CHARGE!"

Lord Uldar jumps on the wall and instructs his soldiers to attack Alderic now that he's vulnerable.

Image

"ah shit"

Image

All 3 attacks land, 2 go Over The Top. Alderic fudges his redshirt roll and is unable to parry any damage with his sword - he absorbs the entire 8d6 + 6 hit.

Image

Needless to say, Alderic won't be continuing this fight.

Image

Uldar jumps the crossbowdude.

Image

The remaining Falcon moves towards the approaching Heavy

Image

TURN 1 - Civilians

Youngster grabs his slingshot and a pebble, and launches it at one of the Bulls

Image

The pebble bounces off the helmet, not doing any damage

Image

This dwarf, apparently a Royalist, attacks the Falcon hero, who parries the blow.

Image

Whereas this peasant, who sympathizes more with the Lords defending the wall, attacks the lone guard.

Image

He misses and is struck down by the guard

Image

REINFORCEMENTS

2 more Royal soldiers, one heavy and one spearman, arrive on the scene

Image

Another 2 spearmen arrive at the rear entrance of the Armoury

TURN 2 - Royals

Spearman at the back of the Armoury stay put and prepare for a countercharge if the Bulls are to attack

Image

Same for the 3 guys on the training grounds

Image

The Heavy attacks the approaching Falk swordsman. The swordsman counterattacks, but doesn't deal any damage. This sudden move does surprise the Heavy, who falls on his butt.

Image

The newly arrived spearmen begins a charge at the Falcon swordsman

Image

His long weapon proves difficult to navigate in the tight spaces among the ruins. It slams the old city wall, gets stuck, and snaps.

Image

The Heavy moves towards the Falcons. While passing the disrupted Warrick, he swings his blade. But without much conviction, since he doesn't deal any damage.

Image

The gentle slap on the butt causes Warrick to fall to the other side of the wall, as the Heavy carries on.

Image

TURN 2 - Bulls

Cedric and 2 Bulls head towards the back of the Armoury. The axeman loots the Heavies' stuff while Cedric reclaims his shield.

While passing the youngster, Heavy Bull wacks him in the head.

Image

... provoking the youngsters' dad to pick up a spear and charge at the Bull

Image

The dad critfails: he trips, loses the weapon, and falls flat on his face.

"Man, your dad is a dork."
"*Sigh*, tell me about it."
"We're cool, dude. My father was not much of an example either. Take care."
"Thanks. Bye."

Image

"Cmon dad, I'll take you home."
"Did I get him? Did I kill that bastard? ..."

Image

The 2 spearman watch this scene unfold and realise the Heavy is distracted.

They charge!!

Image

The Bull crossbowman reponds quickly and fires an arrow at the attackers. He hits one in the foot, interrupting the charge.

Image

The other spearmen crashes into the Heavy Bull, dealing lethal damage.

Image

Cedric retaliates and cuts off the Royals hand

Image

"Hey kid, we're down one guy. Suit up!" shouts Cedric.

Image

"Can my dad come too?"

(Feat critical success)

Image

Daddy Bull dispatches the handless spearman.

Cedric and his gang are now approaching the rear of the Armoury, where they face the two remaining Royals.

Image

For the Bulls remains Warrick, who finds himself at the other end of the Armoury. He moves along the wall, sees a Royal, and thumps him in the head.

Image

The attack doesn't deal enough damage, but does dislocate the Royals helmet. Warrick shoots back down and disappears around the corner unseen.

Image

TURN 2 - Falcons

Uldar attacks the dwarf, who skillfully parries the blow.

Image

The hero decides that he ain't got time for this shit. He kicks the small creature all the way over the wall and out of the stadium.

Image

He then moves around the back of the training ground to aid his men in battling the Royals

Image

The 4 falcons then swing around to attack the approaching Royals. 2 attack the Heavy, 2 attack the spearman.

Image

The spearman goes down

Image

... while the Heavy is protected by his sturdy armor.

Image

TURN 2 - Civilians

This gentleman, who owns a market stand with dairy products, attempts to revive a fallen Bull soldier with a block of strong smelling cheese.

Image

The ripped blacksmith moves towards the commotion to join in on the fun.

"All this fighting is good for business!"

Image

A local woman looks for something to defend herself with

Image

She finds... Some OT Vermin.

Image

That concludes T2

TURN 3 - Royals

This heavy readies his mighty hammer for a swing at the Falcons

Image

He smacks one down

Image

The other Heavy scores a kill on one of the Falcon spearmen

Image

The two lancers charge Lord Uldar

Image

They both just barely miss their target

Image

One of the lancers goes down on the counterstrike

Image

The two Royals at the rear decide to attack Cedric

Image

The swordsman misses and clanks the Lil' Heavy on the helmet, without dealing any damage.

Image

The spearman has more epic plans. He freeruns up the side of the Armoury...

Image

... flicks around mid-air and prepares to bring down his weapon on Cedric in an Over The Top charge attack.

Image

But it's Bull Daddy who saves the day with an exceptional redshirt leap!

Image

Redeemed from a lifetime of mediocrity, Bull Daddy dies with a smile on his face.

Image

TURN 3 - Bulls

Cedric takes the red banner from the crossbowman and starts waving it in the air. The two Royals look confused.

Image

"You guys don't know? Red flags attract Bull Horns."

Image

With insane speed, Warrick comes charging around the corner, frothing at the mouth. He rams headfirst into the two Royals, planting the horns on his helmet in both the unfortunate lads' butts.

(Feat critical success)

Image

"BWAHAHAHA that never gets old! Well done Warrick!"

One Royal lands near the training ground, the other flies even further and lands in the market square.

Image

Image

Cedric and his men decide to leave the Royals be and move on. They reach the back of the Armoury. There's no door, just an arch in the ruins providing access. What will they encounter inside, besides the treasure they're after?

Image

TURN 3 - Falcons

Sir Garham quickly opens the Rulebook to figure out how to deal with the Heavies. (wait how did he get his hands on a printed book already?)

"Running... water... nope... hmmm... Heavy Weapons and Armor Piercing ofcourse... okay... charging we can try again as well... yep, and let's hope for a 6 then. Alright, this seems doable!"

Image

He slams the book shut and picks up a Heavy Weapon with a pointy end.

Image

Garham and another Falcon move back a few inches and prepare to charge.

"Ready?"

Image

The two men charge. Garham critfails - while running, he trips over the rulebook and breaks his nose.

The voice of Mike Rayhawk is heard from the sky:
"oh no, whats going on. have you guys been reading the rules again. I warned you about that. I didn't write those things for people to read them!"

Image

The other Falcon is slightly more lucky. The Heavy parries the incoming charge with his shield, but one d6 remains for damage. The Falcon rolls a 2, meaning Something Bad happens to the Heavy: he loses his shield and helmet, and thus the Heavy Armor bonus.

Image

Lord Eremengard cuts down the other Royal lancer like it's nothing.

Image

For his heroic feat, Uldar picks up a broken spear as a staff, and speaks.

"Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?"

Image

He then strikes the stone pillar with the staff.

Image

Water gushed out! Enough for the community and their livestock to drink. And in this case, for two Heavies to drown in, since they Can't Swim.

Image

TURN 3 - Civilians

The angry blacksmith smacks the disrupted Garham, but doesn't deal any significant damage.

Image

The curious salesman is unable to use a block of cheese to revive the fallen Bull soldier. Who would've thought.

Image

The curious lady decides to take her newfound OT pet spider for a drink at the Boulder.

TURN 4 - Royals

This Heavy grabs a Falcon soldier...

Image

... and they both drown.

Image

The other manages to grab Uldars staff...

Image

... and takes it down with him.

Image

The spearman who was sent flying last turn gets up and stabs Sir Garham in the foot

Image

The other Royal gets up and grabs two flags from the market supplies. He begins to wave them erratically, quickly up and down and to the sides.

Image

He is spotted by the watch at the Gatehouse.

"Attention, signals coming in!"
...
"We need... repentance? ... relativism? ... recession? I ..."
...
"RELEASE THE KRAKEN! That's what he's saying!"

Image

"That just means he needs to take a shit. Tell him to use the lavatory at the Boulder!" shouts the officer below.

Image

"Brootaldammit."
Realizing that no help will be coming, the soldier heads back to the fight.

Image

The last Royal remaining at the front of the Armoury quickly heads inside.

Image

Just as a Bull soldier is taking a first look inside, the soldier shows up at the back of the Armoury sporting some exceptional new gear.

Image

"UAAGHH"

The curious crossbowman loses his head. Cedric and Warrick look on in shock.

Image

TURN 4 - Bulls

Cedric has a plan on how to advance on the dangerous Royal.

"Kid, come here. Time to turn you into a proper bull."

Image

"HIYAAAHH"

Image

I came to win, to fight,
to conquer, to thrive.
I came to win, to survive,
to prosper, to rise.
to fly, to fly.

Image

Will this be enough to stop the elite Royal soldier standing between Cedric and the treasure? Stay tuned for the finale.

TURN4 - Falcons

Uldar throws a lance, ending the Royal that was harassing Sir Garham.

Image

"My Lord, you must get inside! I'll hold them off!" shouts the wounded Falcon.

Image

Uldar heads into the Armoury. Is he in time to help out Cedric? Or will he find the treasure room empty?

FINALE

Lord Eremengard makes his way into the Armoury, past looted chests and barrels.

Image

Upon reaching the main room, he freezes.

"Oh shit" mutters the Falcon.

Signs of an absolute massacre are visible everywhere in the room.

Image

"Lord Ere... mar... Falcon! Cedric is... upstairs. You go on. I'll... catch up." speaks a mortally wounded Warrick.

Image

"... Cedric?"

Image

"Ah Uldar, glad you made it. Heck of a fight. This soldier, man... But I found the chest! Alderics chest. We did it, right? The Keepers Honour. But it's locked so we gotta take it to him."

Image

"Are you sure you are alright?"
"Ofcourse! Why wouldn't I be? I got here just before you did. I didn't take anything. You can check, it's all still here. C'mon, let's bring the chest to Alderic!"
"... Okay."

EPILOGUE

"This fight is over. We hope you learned your lesson, Alderic. Next time you'll think twice about denying us the Keepers Honour."

"I didn't deny you anything. I was saving it!" replied the general.

Image

Cedric stepped forward. "Saving it? Why would you do such a thing?" he said angrily.

"Cedric, I think that you know exactly what I mean when I say that Vymbourne is gravely threatened by mysterious powers."

Image

"And by that you mean Jagga?" asked Cedric.

Alderic begins to ramble: "Not just Jagga. Everything. The raid at the Armoury, an assault at the Gatehouse. It's all connected!"

Image

Uldar interrupts the general. "Are you saying that it's a conspiracy?"

"I'm saying that this is BRIKWARS!"

Image

"I've seen it before. It starts slow, but then the madness just keeps on coming. You can't win this fight because every victory has it's bounds. There's always something: reinforcements arrive, one of your own epically blows it, or worse: some Over The Top schnook catches you with your pants down. We're in it. Brikwars. And bloody carnage is headed our way!"

Image

"Stop your rambling and pay up."

"Very well then. Here is your reward for defeating the 8 assailants at the Gate. A set of Mithril gloves matching your equipment."

Image

Alderic concluded: "I pity you, Lord Eremengard, Hero of the Gatehouse, First in our line of defense. May these gloves give you strength when your hands need it most."

Image

Uldar decides to keep it brief: "Thank you very much. We'll see you at the next security council."

"Later, grump." said Cedric as he walked away.

With a troubled mind, Alderic wished both Lords a good day and then shifted his focus to cleaning up this mess.
