Galacian "Marshal" APC

Post by Kastrenzo » Tue Feb 16, 2016 9:13 pm

Born out of both a combination of laziness and creativity, a "hobby" of mine is to buy recent sets, usually Star Wars or City vehicles, build the model, and then wreck it a month later when I get an idea to make something new out of it.
I really need to start making some vehicles for my other factions, but this next entry in the "Turn stock shit into something new" series is an amalgamation of these four sets *in the spoiler tag*

I hate Russian shit, but this is largely based on the GAZ Vodnik

The Yarppi YAR-90 "Marshal" is a heavy 4 wheeled MRAP that can be classified as a dedicated troop carrier. Unveiled in G.R 2016 It serves as the bigger brother to the YAR-80 "Enforcer" combat vehicle, the latter of which has largely fallen out of use in the Elkan *Now Galacian* Military due to a crisis of Identity and actual purpose.

While much time and effort went into the design of this APC, it unfortunately also suffers from an identity crisis in the Galacian military as it enters the fray alongside no fewer than 5 other armored fighting vehicles that are intended to protect and transport troops, The Galacian arms industry shit the bed with so many models from several manufacturers that the motor pool has become a quagmire.

Nevertheless the "Marshal" Seems fit to shine and grab attention as it boasts the largest safe carrying capcity of all the available options, comes with several configurations, and is overall one of the most well armed and armored fighting vehicles available to it's faction, bested only by the C3 "Condor" IFV in terms of sheer fighting capability, However unlike the Condor, the Marshal was designed with the common footsoldier in mind and is utilized by Galacian regulars whereas the Condor is exclusively used by the genetically enhanced power armored "supersoldiers"

The vehicle comes in four configurations, it has two roles, troop transport and supply transport. Troop transport configurations allow more room for more troops, but weapons systems are usually restricted to notoriously unreliable "wireless controllers" wheras the logistical configurations carry less troops, but can support dedicated weapon frames that allow weapons or shooters much better accuracy and/or control

The four Configurations are

Aside from the driver, each configuration supports...
A-I 1 gunner and 3 passengers , this configuration does not have a gun turret but rather the hatch is open for a gunner to engage targets with a Mini-Shuka LMG
A-II 1 gun operator and 2 passengers, this configuration is much less of a transporter and more of a weapons platform, a fully dedicated Shuka HMG controlled by a turret mechanism in the vehicle turns the Marshal into a rolling gibbing mobile
B-I 2 roof gunners and 5 passengers, this configuration is known as the "Sardine setup" or the "Battle bus" as it transports the maximum number of troops, however it can only rely on the weapons the soldiers carry with them as there is not enough room for Mini-Shuka ammunition unlike in configuration A-I
B-II 5 passengers ,The most balanced configuration being able to carry 5 troops as well as the added benefit of the roof mounted Shuka HMG, however the gun is remote controlled from a console inside the vehicle and decidedly less accurate than a proper turret mechanism, It must be reloaded manually as well, something that was done automatically in A-II

B-II Configuration Marshal, 5 troops and a driver sit safely inside, and the roof hatch is replaced by a remote controlled Shuka HMG. A devastating weapon but signifigantly more difficult to operate than the manually controlled version of Model A-II

The interior of an A series Marshal, A large platform which can either be used by a machine gunner, or have a heavy machine gun turret significantly impairs the vehicle's ability to carry troops, this vehicle isn't carrying any passengers, just it's driver, gun operator and some supply crates stuffed where the soldiers would normally be. The exterior of an A-II and B-II appear largely identical, but the A series carry fewer troops in exchange for a more reliable weapon

Marshal APC alongside it's cousin, the YAR-80 Enforcer *Left* and the E4 Armadillo APC, *Right. The Marshal was designed as a bigger brother to the Enforcer, and also to replace the aging Armadillo, which has been in use by various militaries in the ESS for almost as long as the venerable and ancient "Battlemaster" Tanks, stretching back as early as G.R 2005. The Armadillo is being phased out with the introduction of the Marshal

Marshal alongside the C3 "Condor" IFV, The Condor and Marshal represent the largest and heaviest combat transports in the Galacian army, only the battle tanks carry more arms or armor than these two vehicles.

The only vehicle I have in this faction that I have managed to make multiples of is the Heavy Tank. Im going to see about making a duplicate of this one since it's primarily built off the race truck and shouldn't be -that- difficult to get the rest of the parts. Famous last words

somehow I missed that while this vehicle doesn't have a tremendous amount of space in length and width, it's actually very tall on the inside, allowing for a kitted minifig to stand up.

Long story short, with a couple small modifications to the roof, it can fit up to 8 figs in it's interior, possibly more. depending on how much of a sardine can I make it,

Standing Room only.

Looks great! I made something similar once. It doesn't exist anymore.
