[BB16] - Galacian Cossack Heavy Tank

Post by Kastrenzo » Sun Mar 13, 2016 12:15 am

Just throwing this into the competition for the hell of it since all the other new things are being put in lately. I've really no interest in winning, but it's still nice to hear feedback

This was something I was making throughout the day, I had an Idea to strip and convert a few pre-existing sets into a new hovertank, something I might be able to mass produce in the future, the plan changed partway through and I decided to just make a heavy tank / proper MBT. It's not really based on anything, it ended up looking like a FV510 Warrior a little bit, but it's supposed to be a tank. Since I still have other standard tanks in the same faction, this will take the role of a heavy tank.
If the Kodiaks are the "Panzers" of the GFR, This is the "Tiger"

The G-200 "Kodiak" Tank is the current battle tank of the Galacian Federal Republic's ground forces, and earlier models of the same vehicle served Galacia and it's predecessors for over a decade, This "modernization" program sought to upgrade the "B-100 "Battlemaster" tank that was in use during the Peach Invasions. Restored Battlemasters still float around the ESS and found their way into the hands of lesser factions and are still in use today. For all the platform's admirable qualities, it lacked the punch that commanders are looking for in todays battlefields

In early G.R 2016 the Galacian central command commissioned the two chief combat vehicle manufacturers whom were responsible for the C2 "Condor" IFV, and the Kodiak Tank modernization programs, and asked them to collaborate and design a potential replacement for the Kodiak. The initial design was for a hover propulsion system. The chassis was completed but designers ran into trouble with the engine and lift systems, Military brass stepped in and halted work on the project, rejecting the hover tank idea. The designers were ordered to utilize the already completed chassis for another design. Using features similar to vehicles already in use, they would create the "Cossack" a worthy successor to the venerable Kodiak tank.

Official GFR Description

The G-16 "Cossack" Is a heavy tank that serves alongside and eventually replacing the venerable Kodiak. Roughly 35% larger than it's predecessor, the Cossack is the most heavily armed and armoured conventional tank in the sector. Boasting a massive D1-0T Gun that's twice the size of the Kodiak's Armament, optional flamethrower and a remote or manually operated Shuka heavy machinegun, and protected by the "Rakushka" additional armor plating that suppliments the already thick armor on the Cossack.

Crew and size comparison. The "hooks" on the front are intended for a large ram/frontal armor piece that I haven't designed yet
Image

Gunner manually operating the Shuka HMG *This is only an illusion, sadly the turret can't fit minifigs, his bottom half is taken off.
Image

This is the "hatch" to the chassis, it doesn't work entirely how I planned since the turret is so big that it can't open. Might redesign in the future.
Image

... But there is actually space for the pilot to sit in, at least.
Image

Cossack alongisde the Condor IFV. One of the "design styles" that influenced this vehicle.
Image

Cossack alongside the Kodiak MBT, which it currently serves alongside, and will hopefully replace someday. *I'm not calling the Cossack the new "standard" until I've been able to make another one, since I have two Kodiaks*
Image

While largely made from random scrap, it wouldn't have been possible without the martyring of a bulldozer First order snowtrooper thing and the "Assault Bot" shown a few weeks ago. they will not be missed.

When you work on this vehicle next (or any, for that matter), I would highly recommend building them with the intent of being modular. This can be extremely useful if for example you are having a battle with a fellow Brikwarrior. You've brought your tanks and APC's along, only to discover that your opponent's forces heavily constitue of attack VTOL's and infantry. Utilising a modular system, you can convert some tanks to an anti-aircraft role, uparmour the tanks designated to engage infantry and even give them a situation appropriate armament such as an autocannon or a flame-thrower. This can greatly improve your chances for victory. While at present I cannot provide a suitable example from my forces, I will do my utmost to model the importance of modularity in vehicle design for the future.

That aside, you've done a solid job here mate. Well done!

Most of the things I make are designed on the fly based on what good parts I can find or salvage, this "project" was originally supposed to look like this
Image

As you can see, it didnt turn out that way, not even remotely close. I later opted for a beefed up and enlarged version of the previous tank with some elements copied from the IFV shown. I typically don't build stuff with air or VTOL stuff in mind because my "forces" have been built to face off against each other, I like looking at peoples stuff and sharing my own, but I've really got no intentions of doing anything more than forum battles with my armies, so Air and Anti-Air never became a thing.

I did used to keep different turrets for some of the tanks and IFVs, but i'd usually pick my favorite and scrap the rest. Incase no one's noticed, Quality parts are something of a scarcity for me and I can't afford to go on shopping sprees on bricklink or the sorts. That's why only some of my vehicles have duplicates, and the rest are just lone examples of vehicles that are kanonically supposed to be plentiful. if you catch my drift

Im tracking what you're saying though.

I feel ya man. I only ever really plan on forum battles. I also just try to build enough of a force to use in a forum battle but give the illusion it's a small part of something bigger. I do not have the time, resources, or drive to fully flesh out all my factions... There are about 25 of them and that would take some time.

The front is a mess of slopes but that booty shot is beautiful.

It looks incredibly smexy. Delicious colors, slopes, and angles. I particularly like the pilot cabin and how the pilot actually sits up right. Good job!

Hey internet people.

I haven't been around in over a month. But I took heed of the criticisms of the mess of slopes and frontal design.

Will post the changes tomorrow when I get back home.

Wow. That will teach me to post stuff when I'm on my phone. I posted that message about updating pictures weeks ago and immediately forgot about it.

I've started taking the orange trim off a lot of vehicles. I feel like if I can't get it to look right on all of of them. I should stop making it a mandate to use wire black orange on every vehicle.
