...I was going to do something interesting with Statlor and Waldorf, but it is too freaking hot, and I still haven't done the Blarney Stone vingette for the loser of the Blarney Battle, so I'll keep it simple.
Interesting...
Style: 6. I like the concept, little wayside shrine catering to travelers with the big merchants trying to butt in on what they see as their turf. Nice aesthetics on the smaller builds here, and it kind of has a party feel in keeping with the Jamboree contest.
Substance: 6. Let's be honest, this is a simple build. I like it, don't get me wrong, but there's not a lot going on here, it is mostly minifigures. The design of the shrine roof, with the plants interlinked like that is pretty cool, and the color theming on the cart is nice, but the 'road' is really just some border rocks (which, ironically, is pretty in keeping with rural medieval roadways - Romans built roads, yes, but they didn't go everywhere, and most roads of the time were just well-marked, wheel-rutted dirt roads with the occasional bit of stone, gravel, or maybe brick. Or worse, courderoy roads, which were a bunch of logs laid in the dirt)
Photography: 7. They're a little blurry, but at least you have some kind of ground MADE OF BRICKS. Still no background, but nobody did one this contest, so meh. Pics do a pretty good job of conveying the theme and feel of the build.
Theme: 7 Okay, the dude in red is CLEARLY TGF, about to F some stuff up. Battle of the brews is an older theme that used to play out sometimes, and minifigures fighting over beer of any kind is pretty normal. You have a clear conflict in this piece, without openly displaying people fighting, with a properly Lego-esque happiness surrounding said conflict. Kudos.
All in all, I like this one a lot. Could have more details and some of the build could have been more complex, but it is nice.
