[BM25] Battle of the Packs

Post by Vomarsk » Sat May 31, 2025 1:29 pm

Since I had a bunch of battlepacks lying around which, funnily enough, all had the same amount of Ü (that being 8 ) worth of units, I figured I might as well pit them against each other to see who wins.
the actual contest entry is here: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=19362

Small disclaimer: due to time and budget constraints (and interference from god), my setup for this battle was pretty... terrible. so some of the pics might be crap.

Now, on to the battle.

Our contenders are:
- The Jaffa, consisting of a Prime and 3 Guards, all armed with 1.5" staff rifles, one of the guards has light armor. They also field an assault probe which has some extra protection in the shape of two deflector shield generators on top as well as two 2" rapid fire Staff cannons
Image

- The Ancient Constructs, lead by a Skirmisher with nasty teleportation abilities and even nastier Melee power, an orbiter to support and three Troopers, two with 1" pistols and one with a 1.5" shotgun
Image

- A Vomarsk Drop Pod bringing 3 Mech Drones with 1.5" Plasma rifles as well as a Laser Trooper with 2 1" arm mounted laser guns, who leads them
Image

- A Squad of Grunts (with 1" plasma guns), lead by a Major with a 1" Machine Gun and fielding a Goblin with a 2" payload launcher

Turn 1
Jaffa

The Jaffa Prime, the armored Serpent Guard and the Assault Probe move towards the landed Mech Drones.
Image

The other two Guards climb up the hill towards the Grunts.
Image

As the Probe hovers closer, the Drop Pod's Turrets fires a reactive shot - but misses completely.
Image

The two Guards on the hill open fire at the Grunts, but one misses. The other hits, but... what he hits is just the wall in front of him. The knockback sends him back to the ground.
Image
Image

At the other front, the Prime and Serpent Guard shoot at the Drones, absolutely pulverising the first one with way more over the top damage than would have been necessary.
Image
Image

In retaliation, the Probe attempts to shoot the turret. One shot misses, the other manages to punch through the Drop Pod's armor.
Image
Image

Ancients

On the other side of the battlefield, the Skirmisher sends out his Orbiter.
Image

Two of the Troopers move into cover near the Grunts.
Image

The third trooper and the Orbiter go towards the Vomarsk, where the Orbiter generates a hard light barrier for the shotgunner to hide behind.
Image

An optimistic attempt is made, but at this range neither the Laser Trooper nor the Mech Drone take any damage.
Image

The Skirmisher prepares for teleportation towards the central hill.
Image
Image

Noticing the Skrimisher's attempt to re-materialize right in front of him, the Pilot of the Goblin fires two crystal needles in response.
Image

However, one of the Troopers that ran into cover earlier climbs up the hill to intercept the shot, being blown up in the process.
Image
Image

Vomarsk

The Laser Trooper and one of the Mech Drones walk around the Barrier to flank the ancient constructs.
Image

The other surviving Mech Drone meanwhile walks towards the Jaffa to shoot one of them.
Image

But his weapon was apparently damaged in the landing and explodes in his hands.
Image

The Turret's more lucky, hitting and damaging the Assault Probe.
Image

What a dodge from the Shotgunner! But don't tell him that he wasn't the target...
Image

The Orbiter is blown to pieces and its barrier drops.
Image

Without a shield to hide behind, the shotgunner is at the mercy of the dice now. Luckily for him, the dice don't like the Vomarsk, apparently, so he just gets knocked to the ground, surviving the Mech Drone's shot.
Image

Grunts

Two more needles fly into the reforming Skirmisher, just to get intercepted by the other Trooper
Image

The two Minors move towards the Jaffa and murder the Serpent Guard.
Image

Their Major moves up towards the centre of the battlefield but holds his fire for now.

Turn 2
Jaffa

"Kree! Get up and grab yourself one of those staff cannons. The Probe can't use both of them anymore anyways. You're a heavy now"
Image

The Guard does as his Prime orders and grabs one of the probe's weapons. [feat successfull]
Image
Image

Together with the drone he shoots the turret. well, HE shoots the turret, the probe just spins out of control.
Image

At least the shots from the Guard are enough to damage the turret even more.
Image

The probe crashes into the nearby rocks and is disrupted.
Image

Another Mech Drone falls to the Prime and his armored bodyguard as they move closer to the Vomarsk drop zone.
Image

In response, the Grunt Major attempts to shoot the oblivious Jaffa Hero in the back, but his Serpent Guard is there to catch the needles.
Image

It's not enough damage to kill the Jaffa, but his armor is shredded.
Image

Ancients

On the hill, the Skirmisher finally re-materializes and tries to stab the Grunt Goblin...
Image

... completely missing his target...
Image

... and falling off the hill.
Image

Angrily he gets back up and, upon realizing most of his minions being dead, calls for more to be teleported in.
Image

Instead the ancient base recalls the damaged shotgun trooper to avoid more losses [feat failed]
Image

Vomarsk

"This doesn't look too complicated... hold up."
Image

he manages to repair and reprogram the Orbiter. [feat success]
Image

"Go. repair our turret so it has enough energy to shoot more!"
The orbiter does as it is ordered
Image

but apparently it doesn't really know what it's doing and instead blows up the drop pod.
Image

The final Mech drone tries attacking the Jaffa, but slips on the blood of his fallen comrades.
Image

At least the laser trooper manages to kill something this turn, nuking the Serpent guard with his arm cannons.
Image

Grunts

Seeing an opportunity to shoot a defenseless enemy, the Grunt major hops down from the central hill and pumps a bunch of explosive needles into the Jaffa Probe...
Image

... successfully destroying the robot.
Image

Continuing the trend of shooting people in the back, the two minors jump down from the hill too and kill the newly promoted heavy.
Image

Someone fights with honor at least. The Goblin punches the skirmisher in the face, ripping off one of its wings in the process.

Turn 3
Jaffa

"I'm finished but I'm taking you with me!" shouts the Prime, as he runs for the probe's self destruct mechanism. Everyone around him doesn't like getting blown up and decide to shoot him before he gets to the probe. Even with double crits on his armor roll, the prime can't survive 39 damage worth of plasma bolts in his back. [feat failed]
The Jaffa are eliminated.
Image

Ancients

Once again, the Skirmisher jumps onto the Goblin to hit it with his blade.
Image

This time, he hits and cuts through 3 of the walkers 4 HP.
Image
Image

He then turns around to call for the Orbiter and retake control. But to no avail. [feat failed]
Image
Image

Knowing he's fighting a losing battle, the Skirmisher has his command base open a portal and jumps in to repair itself and to come back another time.
The Ancients are eliminated (and/or have retreated)
Image

Vomarsk

With nothing else to do, the orbiter flies towards the Grunt Minors and tries to shoot one of them. Tries to.
Image

"This is getting ridiculous. You! Get over here!"
Image

"Hey, let me down!"
Image

"Weeee - oh no!" [feat success]
Image

Now that the major is out of redshirting distance, he is executed by the two Vomarsk.
Image

Grunts

And again, someone's getting shot in the back by Grunts. Mech Drone down.
Image

The Badly damaged Goblin too shoots someone in the back. This time it's the Laser Troper. and it's with two highly explosive needles. The final enemy is blown up.
The Vomarsk are eliminated (ignore the Orbiter).
The Grunts are victorious.

I just realized this probably should've gone to reports from the field. whoops.
ah, well. it's to showcase the battle packs that are in the armoury, so I hope it's okay.

If not, let me know and I'll repost it there.
