The A.12 "Roach" CU Walker

Post by aoffan23 » Mon Mar 15, 2010 4:17 pm

The white ops' most common mech, the A.12 Roach is a small bipedal combat/utility walker. It's pretty flexible when it comes to the types of situations it can be put into effectively.

Image

It's been designated the Roach due to its appearance, as well as its surprisingly high resistance for its size.

Image

It is outfitted with two 50 cal machine guns at the front, to deal with infantry as well as some light vehicles.

Image

It also has two self-propelled grenades fitted into the top of the legs, providing heavy fire when needed, such as for taking out heavier vehicles or targeting other dangerous targets.

Image

A shot of the rear. It has a small rocket engine fitted on the rear to keep it from falling backwards, as it doesn't have the ability to right itself in that position. The Roach also has two utility arms for field repairs or other similar tasks. They are folded back when not in use so as to protect them from the hazards of combat.

Image

A shot of the utility arms folded out for use. It has a welding torch for reattaching armour or weapons and a gripping arm for actually handling the parts. In desperate situations, these arms can be used as weapons, although this is usually discouraged as it reduces their effectiveness for their intended purposes.

C&C welcome, but keep in mind this was built out of Exo-Force sets and nothing else, so I was a little limited to parts usage. I'm pretty proud of it though, it's better than some of the stuff I've built with my whole collection at my disposal. :P

You seriously have doubts as to this Mech's worth? No way. This is awesome. I haven't the first clue of how to do this type of new age Lego stuff like many of you young'uns here can do. Is that prospective enough for yah? Get this thing stated and on the frontlines pronto soldier.

I like it, the shape's really nice, especially with those shoulder-pad type things. My only suggestions are to make a large cannon on it and make the feet a bit wider. The feet look kind of strange so small on such a bulky, low-slung mech.

Thanks! Yeah, I like the new pieces that TLG has come out with for their detail, but I also hate them for it cause it reduces people's creativity level when it comes to making certain objects or elements. Take this piece for example:
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=50943

Sure it adds detail, but most of the fun of Lego is figuring out ways to use pieces to make certain things. This part of the fun is kind of shot down when they make elements that are actually meant for that part, eliminating the need for creative thinking in that area.

I'll stop ranting now, seeing as I forgot to post stats for this thing.

Armour / Skill / Move / Notes
3d10* / 1d6 / 5" / Can use its rocket engine to sprint

*Although its size level is 2, I decided to give it 3d10, seeing as it has full armour plating. I paid a few extra CP for this, don't worry

Weapons:

Mk1 self-propelled grenade:

Use / Rng / Dmg / Notes
2 / 6" / 1d10 exp / Fires in an arc

.50 cal machine gun:

Use / Rng / Dmg / Notes
3 / 6" / 1d6 / none

Specialties

Repair: The Roach can attempt to repair any damage to another vehicle, building, etc. as long as said structure is not destroyed. Roll a d6. Repairing a surface element requires a roll of 3+, whereas repairing a structure element requires a roll of 4+.

A combat vehicle that can also do repair work? I wish I'd thought of that. Love the construction techniques and the weapons.

That part? In my younger years, I spend lots of briks attempting to build around the air scoop. I think they introduced it solely for the SW sets. They showed up in speeders a lot.
