Nope. On the contrary, I have often felt judges were a little too soft. I'm all for being kind, of course, but not everything presented in every contest deserves a super high score. Not that I've seen anything I can recall that was bad in any of the contests so far but when you're already judging at a 9 out of 10 on most things, it doesn't leave you a lot of leeway to accurately judge something that is truly extraordinary. This time round, Valiant, I felt that you were pretty fair and I'd like to see you as a judge again.

Also, and this is kind of a biggie, the points are made up and don't matter. I think I've said it somewhere before, but it's kinda like Whose Line Is It Anyway? right? It's about fun. Winners get bragging rights, a badge, and the respect of their fellows but we all win, really. The whole point of these contests is to generate content and inspiration among members of the community, as well as increase participation and general interest among everyone. Seems to have worked.

Even if the points did matter in some big way - from a game design perspective, giving everybody a score in the 9/10-10/10 range has the exact same effect as giving everyone a score in the 2/10-3/10 range. Either way, the final totals are separated by the same amount of points.

The big factor isn't whether you score high or low, but who has the biggest range. If one judge is scoring everything in the 5-6 range, and another one is using the full 1-10, then the second judge's score differentials will overwhelm the first judge's in the final totals.

Basically being a good judge is about being consistent or sexy, preferably both

My students always get mad when the best score in the class is 87 and they complain about not getting 100. But it's not like I'm gonna give you a higher score for not using the past tense when you're writing a newspaper article or if you ramble when doing a speaking exam to make it seem like you said more when you really didn't.

Yeah, I know this guy who couldn't read subtitles because "they move too fast", and got cable instead of netflix, despite cable being less good and more expensive. I think he might be Overwatch level dumb.

Or he's dyslexic. Same thing, really. Smart people don't have dyslexia.
