Although this raises yet another possiblity- the Consul's engines are so damn powerful they allow the aircraft to fly through brute force. If this is the case, than the Consul could fly in air and space easily, and very awesomely.
Perhaps one of your next factions could have a stolen engine attached to a car or truck, and could ram through enemy infantry at absurd speeds. That, my friend, would be

That looks awesome -- definitely one of my favorite USA vehicles so far. But any gigantic cylinder sticking out of the nose needs to be a gun, not some wimpy sensor pylon. You could make it an anti-tank weapon if you wanted to go with an A-10 vibe.
Also: Inspired by HALO Reach screenshots, no? I'm curious to see how good the space combat mode on that game will turn out to be.

don't argue aerospace mechanics this is brikwars, it would not work at all but because it is brikwars planes can fly even if they normally they could not and there is no point in arguing.

That's what I was thinking. When I see fighters I automatically think of StarWars, and there everything can fly around a planet as well as in space, and the spacecraft all have wings... They're even called something-wing most of the time.
