Personally, I would have used plates to cover the tracks and used the ladders OVER the top of the plates - so that you could have a multi layered armour effect.
(EDIT - DOH! Scythe only looked at the pictures and didn't see the part mentioning plates, I am a dumbass!)
Also - ladders covering the sides of the landraider - BEHIND the side sponsons would help to give the armour coverings a more "solid" feel because my current method of gutting this beast would be to get behind the sponsons and fire into the brik "Wall" between the gun and the rear track.
Basically dude, the more surface area you can cover in armour, as thick and as often as you can - the better. This is definitely a step up - but you can push it a little further.
