The 2,025 Hundred Piece Hullabaloo

Post by Quantumsurfer » Mon Sep 01, 2025 11:04 pm

The 2,025 Hundred Piece Hullabaloo
Ninth Annual BrikWars Konstruktion Contest

In the month of September, all across the Legitimitium MultiVerse, ABS and established parts grow mysteriously rare. Building slows and, as it does, minifigs all over the BrikVerse begin to lose their grip on reality. They panic. They riot. It's really just another excuse to beat the snot out of one another. Some point to the sudden appearance of massive SHIPs during this month as a correlation but many BrikVersian scientists are dismissive, citing a favorite adage that correlation is not causation. Perhaps they are right or perhaps they are covering for their governments. Either way, for the average minifig, it's just another reason to pick up a pitchfork. Maddened, howling minifigs the BrikVerse over frantically scramble to tear up as many briks as they can find and assemble some kind of reality out of them. Mechaniks and Konstruktion Workers who have let their little contractual projects and sites sit untended for the entire year suddenly get all their work done this month and collect overtime pay for doing it. Like a busy hive, minifigs swarm creation, desperate to do anything at all to avoid the existential despair of endless blank baseplates and massive bugger off starships in their skies.

Participants

Participants will each create one or more "builds," in real bricks or in LDD, composed of one hundred (100) pieces or less, and capture a comprehensive set of images that show it off. A "build" can be anything from a microscale vignette to a small fleet of ships to a mecha. Anything at all. Build whatever the hell you want. The Judges will have their own views on what constitutes a complete build and that will show in their scoring, particularly in Style and Substance. Please post anywhere from 1-10 images. If building LDD, participants should include an .lxf file. If building IRL, participants should include a parts breakdown image in their photo set. Simply create something BrikWarsy, preferably something that references the rulebook, the lore (community or official), and/or the history.

Those wishing to participate in the contest should submit an original build via a new thread in the Armoury forum between September 1, 2025 and September 30, 2025, including the identifier tag [HPH25] in the title.

Participants may submit more than one entry. Contestants can only win one Reward, however, and only their highest scoring piece will count in this regard.

Entries may represent any BrikWars tone, style, etcetera. The BrikVerse is a wildly diverse setting and the purpose of this contest is to encourage more awesome new content.

Judges

Judging of the entries will commence immediately following the contest, beginning October 1, 2025, and will end no later than October 8, 2025. The final scores will be announced and formalized in this thread on October 9, 2025.

For the 2025 Contest, the following are Judges:
  • MadMario
  • Scribonius
  • Horation
The following are Secondary Judges:
  • brickvignettes
Judges will view each entry and score it based on the following categories:
  • Style -- Relating to the concept of the build: the inventiveness and creativity of the build, the transformative usage of parts and pieces (commonly referred to as NPU), and the distinctive quality and achieved expression of the build.
  • Substance-- Relating to the mechanics of the build: the viability and efficiency of its construction, the clever use of parts and pieces to achieve building solutions, and the achieved scale and detail of the build.
  • Presentation-- Relating to the build's exhibit: the quality of the build's photography (especially the use of clean lighting and clear pictures) and the capture of the purpose and mechanics of the piece such that it is clearly and completely conveyed to the audience (including any parts breakdown).
  • Story, Tie-Breaker Category-- A picture is worth a thousand words. Be brief and use some of them to caption or provide background story to your images. Keep in mind the theme of the contest: Minifigs going nuts everywhere.
The Judging Categories of Style and Substance are rated on a scale from 1-10. The Judging Category Presentation is rated on a scale from 1-5. The scores from each category will be added together, with the exception of Story, for a Total Judge's Score of between 3 and 25. Submitted Judge scores are rounded to the nearest 0.5. All Judge Scores are added together for a Final Score which is then compared to find a winner.

The Story Score, also rated on a 1-10, will only be used in the event of a tie between entries.

Judges are encouraged to keep an open, diverse mindset when judging entries as they are not inherently required to adhere to any particular interpretation of Kanon or individually preferred tone. In short, we all have a good general idea of what constitutes as Brikwarsy but a great many of us have some pretty different ideas about the specifics.

Judges may enter the contest as Participants (see above) but may not judge their own entries. Instead, the Secondary Judge will take their place in the scoring of those particular pieces.

Rewards

The participant with the highest Final Score will achieve 1st place, winning the contest, joining the pantheon of BrikWars StudGods, and gaining full on bragging rights. They will also earn a unique custom badge, which will be pinned to the winning post and generally used however the winner sees fit (such as its inclusion into their forum signature).

Thanks to all participants for your entries into this year's Hullabaloo.

Well done and congratulations. Even better turnout this year with 19 entries! Fantastic! There were a lot of really nifty little designs this year. Special mention this year to Silent-sigfig's wife for being ossum enough to contribute from outside the BrikVerse: We salute you. Thanks for helping to make this contest even better. Honorable mentions this year go to Cybrandir, Silent-sigfig, Vomarsk, yurp, and pablo for a stunning five way tie for 2nd place with yurp pulling it out by a couple of Story points. Helluva contest and I hope this year's entries inspire more builds in the months to come.

For public reference: Due to forum jank, judging results were sent to me privately. I'm posting them here for reference. Some judges included commentary.

Scribonius

Scorpion Fighter: Sty 7, Sub 7, Pre 3, Sto 5 Love the use of paper wings, nice compact build.

Arcanine: Sty 5, Sub 7, Pre 3, Sto 3 Nice build, but it's a pokemon. There really isn't a story. (also builds with no other background or attempt at context are only getting a 3 in presentation at best)

Ice Planet: Sty 6, Sub 7, Pre 4 (some attempt at a setting), Sto 5 Love the articulation on the wheel arms.

Jaffa Squad: Sty 6, Sub 6, Pre 5 (whoa, baseplates!!!), Sto 6 (not the most inspired build, but rather versatile I think)

Organifactor A.T.: Sty 7, Sub 7, Pre 3, Sto 7 (weird little build with interesting parts use, very Seussian)

Batt at Bridge: Sty 4, Sub 5, Pre 3, Sto 3 (um... while it is an interesting vingette, it lacks context or any kind of story and the overall build is kind of bland?)

Grandfather Automaton: Sty 7, Sub 8, Pre 5, Sto 8 (unusual build with some interesting parts use, and while i don't like the 'green screen' background, some attempt was made to make it look like something other than a kitchen table and the pics actually help tell the story with this one)

Robot Dog: Sty 4, Sub 6, Pre 3, Sto 3 (I like dogs, I like robots. This isn't bad, but feels a little lacking)

Z-Mech: Sty 5, Sub 6, Pre 3, Sto 3 (...okay, it's a mecha with little context either in writing or pictures. Not a bad build, just kind of... bland?)

Tank Cav 2: Sty 4, Sub 5, Pre 3, Sto 5 (boxy little APC. Interesting, but nothing earthshaking)

KPDH: Sty 4, Sub 5, Pre 3, Sto 4 (it's... a portal made of teal bricks? There's not much else to say about it)

Bricktron Hoverbike: Sty 5, Sub 8, Pre 3, Sto 7 (very blacktron, much bike, but I cannot help but picture it taking off and the rider falling off backwards)

Schnode Grau: Sty 7, Sub 7, Pre 3, Sto 6 (love the use of the pirate cannon as a gun barrel for a tank)

Vertrivilliers Tank: Sty 5, Sub 7, Pre 3, Sto 7 (Not as interesting a build, but love the color useage, does look like an older-style mobile gun carriage)

Scout Walker: Sty 5, Sub 5, Pre 4, Sto 4 (Not a bad build, kind of basic. Some story and context given only by presence of the next entry)

Clanker Insect: Sty 8, Sub 7, Pre 4, Sto 5 (big big big bug walker thing? Different, I like it.)

Meatbags: Sty 2, Sub 2, Pre 2, Sto 1 (wtf is this thing even???)

RDC Drone: Sty 8, Sub 6, Pre 3, Sto 6 (Love the use of wheel hubs as rotor blades, interesting idea)

Hover Kreuser: Sty 4, Sub 6, Pre 3, Sto 4 (little boxy hover tank? Okay...)

brickvignettes

Tank cavalry-2

Style: 7. It's a grey tank. Nice shaping, but not groundbreaking.
Substance: 8. Pretty good scale for under 100 pieces, I like the turret.
Presentation: 4. Multiple angles, clear pictures.

Story: 7. We get a bit of fun lore on the faction, and a pic of an enemy getting shot is always a bonus!

HoverKreuzer mark 1000

Style: 7. Classic tank shaping, clean monochrome colour scheme.
Substance: 7. The pieces used are simple, but the size of the build is impressive for the amount of pieces used. Those 2 factors balance the score.
Presentation: 4

Story: 6. Straightforward explanation of the tank and its uses.
