The Grand Army of New Brick City

Post by Keldoclock » Wed Jul 07, 2010 11:20 pm

In what may have been one of the best land deals of the century, a small team of highly-trained mercenaries purchased a massive plot of land, in the scenic country of Liv'ing Roome. Once they arrived however, they found a desolate plain, devoid of bricks, buildings, or any natural resources whatsoever. Their massive multipurpose helicopter airlifts in some basic supplies, and a military compound is thrown together, for even in the most remote places, the peach threat is ever-looming.

Translation: I'm really broke and used just about all of my bricks and other peripherals building the army and their base, thus explaining why the walls suck so damn much.

Ze Helicopter

The helicopter that brought them here, modded from a T-1 Typhoon.
Image

Part of the helicopter's modification, there are motorcycles with sidecars mounted on the tail. These can be quickly detached, assembled, and deployed(roughly 30 seconds real time)
Image

On the helicopter is also mounted several crates of guns and ammunition, for sale and for personal use. There are wheels and a trailer hitch that can be set up within moments.
Image

On the other side, a technical truck, with mounted M2 Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun.
Image

The helicopter's faithful pilot, the Deadly Spaceman. He controls flight, as well as the air-to air missiles and front mounted gun.
Image

The helicopter's troop bay, shown here is one of the mercs, as well as the chopper's powerful winch. Image

Another side of the troop bay, here sits a heavy weapons specialist and a commando. Notice the shotgun mounted on the side and the men inside the troopbay itself, under that little roof? there are two more soldiers.
Image

On the rear-mounted guns sits the ever-faithful Iceworlder.
Image

The copilot, manning the missiles and cannon, is Encon, the hero of the force. He's got generic action hero powers, i usually refer to The A Team when using his feats.

Another angleImage

The troop bay, roof removed.
Image

The helicopter's undercarriage, where sits another motorbike. Notice the landing gear, it actually folds into the helicopter itself.Image

If ya take a look between the panels of the helicopter's armor, you'll notice there is yet another dirtbike WITHIN the helicopter itself.Image

Another look at the helicopter itself. Image

The weapons in the crates. Makes your mouth water, amirite?

Our driver couldn't resist striking a pose.

Nor could the gunner, it seems.

Because more angles is always better.

These guys are really vain.Notice the carry strap on the gunner's AK.

This is some pretty awesome stuff, although any more bricks added to the compound would be nice. On second thought, judging by your financial conditions, you could always use cardboard for the walls, with the bricks at the base, and some Lego details like defense guns n' stuff.

The mods to the helicopter are nice, that's a lot of stuff it can carry.

All the soldiers are sweet too, you definitely put a lot of thought and detail work into these guys.

Awesome overall. :myth:

Awesome helicopter, I love all the hidden features.
Cool base too, not bad for a budget army.

I think it's unique and interesting that you claimed the limited real estate of one Living Room floor for your faction rather than 500+ starsystems like many of the others.

If/when I claim turf, I think I may follow your example. :)

I also like the name "New Brick City."

Keldoclock you are one of the few I can't say "this army needs Helicopters" to for obvious reasons also I would like to add that the helicopter in very nice and well built though for some reason I believe that at least some of the build came from instructions

That heli is simply HUGE! I really like your sidecar design and some of the helis mods. The troops are alright. The compounds gate is actually pretty cool, but not very protective. I only suggest you take your pics with better lighting.

I love the helicopter and its hidden features, although you really shouldn't have shown them to us until you've had the chance to surprise an unsuspecting opponent with them at least once.

Your troops look good but some more color photos of them would be nice.

@theblackdog Sure, I'll get a desk lamp or something to show ya details.

@Primalage thanks. I'm looking into getting another, smaller helicopter.
The base helicopter design is from the 2005 T1 Typhoon, I don't have anywhere near enough bricks to build something like that myself.

I used the sidecar design from an Indiana Jones set.

The thing with my building style is that while any 100% original contraptions of mine usually end up looking like crap, I'm very good at "militarizing" official Lego sets. I saw a Coast Guard set, one with a large truck and helicopter, and immediately downloaded PDF instructions for the heli. Planning to Bricklink together a black version of it, maybe mount a minigun on it.

Really, you can never go wrong with helicopters. With land vehicles you're limited by speed, with boats you can't go anywhere, and with planes you can't land in the middle of a Brikwar without being annihilated. But helicopters? they're alright.

Two words: hover tanks!

Anyway, it's a great helicopter you have built there.

airships are fragile and VTOLs are hard to build. the others don't fit in the modern timeframe.
1. depends on your airship. just because it's fragile doesn't mean it can hold some serious weaponry.

2. Heli's ARE VTOL's and this guy JUST BUILT ONE!

3. Brikwars is hardly ever in the "modern" timeframe. That wouldn't make it as exciting. Jumpjets, drop pods, hovercraft: all of these are fantasy sci-fi but definitely have a certain level of believability.

Hmm. I always thought VTOLs were more of the ilk of Harriers and Ospreys.

definition of VTAL

Vertical
Take off
And
Landing

definition of STAL

Standing or Stall
Take off
And
Landing

Helicopter and the sort fall under VTAL

while a Harrier or Osprey falls under both categorizes as in order to take off it is for all intencive perposes in a Stall as air is failing to generate life from passing under the wings

You're gunna do good here Keldoclock. Better than alot of others, they just get flamed and get booty bothered because their armies suck, but yours doesn't and I like it. Great for a budget army.

(it's actually VTOL and STOL, standing for Vertical Take Off and Landing and Short Take Off and Landing, respectively. STOL actually refers to planes that require only a very short runway.)

Helicopter and the sort fall under VTAL

while a Harrier or Osprey falls under both categorizes as in order to take off it is for all intents and purposes in a Stall as air is failing to generate lift from passing under the wings. (This is all irrelevant because the S in STOL stands for Short rather than Stall, and Harriers and Ospreys fall under VTOL anyway. An example of STOL would be the Fiesler FI Storch, a WWII German spy plane designed to run out of a very small airfield, but not to take off vertically.)
