Centaurs

I thought that this was worth starting off a new topic since it would be of wider interest than just my Elf army.
First step was to carefully pry the two halves of the horse body apart. I'm glad I'd already read that this could be done fairly easily as I'd always thought that the horses were glued together. If I'd just tried sawing away without taking off the head I think it would've got messy pretty quickly.

Image

I took the back of the horse as being my guide when I made my cuts with a razor saw and not much cleanup of the cut was needed at all. As you can see from the photo I've tried out using a 2x2 plate as an experiment and at this stage I've not done any filler work, filing to shape or painting.

Torso fitted and it starts to look like wot it's supposed to. The Forestman is just there to give an idea of relative size.

I'll carry on with finishing off the centaur tomorrow night and I'll post some more pictures then.

It looks interesting and good, but a too expensive method for me to use unless you can find some use for the horse's heads.

Not just yet, but you never know..........

That particular horse came in a toybox clearance joblot. In terms of cost it was virtually free and a bonus. I only buy new if I can't find wot I want 2nd hand. Parents who decide little Johnny is too big to play with Lego anymore are my best friends.

White Nun, this is a wonderful start. I wounder if there were a way to counter sink the 2x2 a little so only the studs were above the body of the hourse.

In any case, I look forward to seeing what you end up with as your finished body. :D

I'm pretty against hacking lego, but this isn't too shabby looking.

I think it's pretty great lookin' as is. Those two studs at the back will come in handy for equipment, quiver or saddle bags. You could do the same with the gap for the saddle but what if there's a passenger, you'll be looking for those extra studs then. The gaps left by the removal of the horses head needs to be filled though.

This will make you sick with envy... and for having cut up on yo horsey.

I saw those before buying the BrickForge ones. I thought they looked too much like robotic legs rather then horse legs.

But if money is an issue, those do look close enough as they say. :D

I am pretty sure that these are centaurs too and if they arent they will go head to head with yours any time

Nice job on these guys though but if I were you I wouldnt have cut them up but I'd have made block horses instead.

too flimsy IMO... the legs look like they'll fall off if you look at them the wrong way :?

hmmm... yes. but the fact remains that they are also the most expensive :? still, next time I get brickforge, I might need to get a few (aside, does anyone own any of these? I really want to know what one of them would look like with a furbeast body....)
