The Pirates of Tyrus

Tyrus is an Earth-like planet situated in White Sector space and it's relatively close (galactically speaking) to Dinoreich. 'Far too close' is what the Britannian garrison on Dinoreich has to say on the matter, but they tend to say that about everybody who looks a bit foreign.

Tyrus is a free trade planet and it's the home of the mercenary pirates of Tyrus who have a thing about wearing fur hats with a cone shaped whatsit in the middle. Most of the time these pirates lurk about the spaceways along the White Sector border with the Empire of the Sun looking to catch out unwary junk freighters to steal their cargo.

Certain very deeply rooted species of trees on Tyrus produce an unusual form of timber that is lighter than air (yes yes I know 'Space 1899' did it first). Over time the colonists on Tyrus have perfected a method of wooden shipbuilding that has culminated in the aerial galleons which are such a common sight in the skies of Tyrus. Unfortunately it isn't just the merchants and sky-farers of that fair planet who sail the skyways, as the dastardly and uncooth mercenary pirates of Tyrus also make use of aerial vessels for their unpleasant purposes.
Not long after the chance theft of a consignment of force field generators along with several elderly aetheric ion discharge engines that were on their way to a local scrap merchant, the notorious pirate captain Sid McVicious made some daring modifications to his ship 'The Folly' and became the first of the pirates of Tyrus to make it into space. Other captains followed his lead and soon the space roads around Tyrus were filled with space sailing wooden ships of all kinds.
More daring still and after further trail and error experiments, the theft of further scrap space ship parts and the press ganging of the necessary 'volunteer' crew Captain Sid attempted the very first hyperspace dimensional jump by any wooden vessel......................and........ ended.....up......not...... so ....very....far away from Dinoreich.

To the great annoyance of Her Majesty's Britannian forces on Dinoreich Captain Sid didn't have a clue how to make the return trip to Tyrus and it's on Dinoreich that he has stayed along with his ship and crew.
I included a Mega Bloks outrigger filled with natives from the Lost City in the picture because I felt like it and because ever since Captain Sid arrived he has been plotting how to steal the treasure that's supposed to be stashed somewhere in the city. I have yet to add the flying bits to 'The Folly' which I must say hasn't been the easiest thing to build and has taken lots of messing about to get it to look how it does now.
It started out as a Sluban (clone) pirate ship set, but now would have only about half of the original set bits actually used in its construction because I didn't like the plan that came in the set box. It's a much better ship now and yes that Mega Bloks cannon was a deliberate choice on my part :D

Mercenary Pirates? Kill them! Less mercenaries means more business for me! :)

They look good anyways. :D

Are the tribesmen's masks custom paint jobs? If so, did you do them yourself or get them from a Bricklink store or something?

The tribesmen's masks are from a COGO set CG3101. It's supposed to be a Pirate set, but is nuffing of the kind and I only purchased it to get the masks and all the jungle greenery (and a few more grey bricks). The masks are plain brown plastic out of the box, but I hand painted them and now they look very nice indeed :D

Oh, lawdy. That's got to be the most blatant rip-off of a LEGO piece I've ever seen.

Oh, it just wouldn't be complete without pirates. Good work!
