I am starting a brickwar army using my collecton of legos, but am having trouble coming up with mech designs. How do you build yours?

I throw bricks at eachother, then look at my favourite RTS games, see what looks cool, and try to fit that into my army. Aslo......NEVER ENOUGH DAKKA.

Depends on visuals; I'm usually inspired by 'anime-mecha' per say, so I there's a design that catches my interest, I'll start experimenting with it and work out something.

Try to build part of a mech(Chassis, Legs, frame) first, and then try and complete it.

I was never really good at building mecha though.

Mech building is on the most difficult things to do with Legos. You have to take in consideration weight, balance, hinges, etc... Its not an easy challenge to make a good mech. I'm making a "Guide" soon for Lego mech building, you might want to take a look at it when Its done.

The one I built has been ported into LDD, though the designs differ in some respects

it's in his Space Knights thread, I believe. As to my method, I generally look for inspiration on Flickr, find a style I like and try to emulate it. It takes a lot of practice, and finding which techniques you like to use and can pull off. More exposure to better builders will help tremendously.

I made a mech using mostly bionicle joints, and it keeps its pose rather well and stands maybe 7 or 8 inches high? I started it from a single hand.

I just made a dread-styled mech last night, and I'm also halfway done with a walker-ish mech. They should go up with my faction's backstory/descriptions later tonight

I prefer building tanks, and I generally shoot for playability. I try to incorporate a good appearance into them as well, although sometimes it doesn't work out too well...

You make them look as much like this as possible.

Or die trying.
