What I have for you today is the result of mindless tinkering with leftover pieces from the Prison Carriage Rescue, Blacksmith Attack, and Scarab Attack sets. I recently pulled a Gladiator from the collector series and thought he went thematically well with my random Islander-torso barbarians, and below you see the results

Image

Do I have any fluff for these guys yet? Nah. But I was interested in creating some chariot-type units. In the first test, the horses appeared way too close to the actual chariot cart, so I tried adding the Scarab Beetle to the harness, and, viola!

Image

Simple Chariot.

Each chariot has a complement of two barbarians. One Bestiarius to drive the sucker, chuck javelins, and otherwise control the Beast (treated as subjugated from the 2005 rules).

Image

On the back of each chariot is a barbarian warrior using a hand weapon and a shield. He gets a free ride into battle, effectively tripling his movement capacity on a single turn. The other chariot carries the "gladiator."

Image

And this mini faction's hero is none other than Conrad the Barber, cliche Austrian Barbarian.

This mini faction is currently featuring in my Forum Battle: River Smithy Rumble, so go ahead and check them out in action!

Scarab beetles are so much win.

You need to expand these guys... Medivo could use another player on the scene.

I like the choice of using bugs as steeds, rather unique.

This reminds me of that idea I had of bringing the Booster Draft game type from MTG to Brikwars.

Players buy several different sets, mostly the small and cheap ones, they are handed over randomly amongst the players. Then each player has to come up with a fighting force with the bricks he has. I think this idea is really awesome and offers great space for army/faction creation with the overall amount of randomness/awesomness going on.

Despite that idea, good job with the pieces left, definitely have that barbarish feeling, :666:

I could see this work with blindpacked minifigs and 1-2 impulse sets per players.

Reasonably Clever did a version of this a while back, with Advent Calendars.

The idea of army drafting if very compelling especially considering the accessibility of minifigs in many of Lego's recent sets. Prison Carriage Rescue, Starwars Battle Packs, several of the cheaper PotC sets (not to endorse peaches), etc, etc, etc. I think it would be hilariously fun, especially with some trading before the battle in case some what to "uniform" their armies a little bit.

The Barbarian name was supposed to be a play on Hyborian...i don't think it quite worked, but whatever. To expand (Theblackdog), I thinking of a squad of Amazon's and a couple dudes with massive axes. But...I'm blanking on what to do for constructions/war machines...

Catapults to throw projectiles like the Big ass Axe dudes. Wyrm/drake riders, disciples of Crom (that sounds like a :666: band)... iunno, the possibilities are endless.

The whole name-pun thing just clicked to me right now, and it is genius.

are you gonna make the amazons taller? With the cut-out grill technique... I think that would look really cool.
