OK. This thread is a necessary evil. Some of you have trouble getting Minecraft to run the server properly, so allow me (and Dilanski). Since I'm not a Tek Wizard, I will add troubleshooting as soon as I am knowledgeable to put them here.

I do have one trouble shoot to start out with, though.
So, Dilanski has walked people through this (once or twice before), and this applies to people who are rather new to Minecraft.

The Trouble: You go the Multiplayer room and see on the server the connection symbol x'd out and see a certain version by it. Simple solution.

Solution:
Close Minecraft. Re-open the launcher. Instead of bluntly pressing "Play" go to where it says, "Profile" (find this to the left of "Play"). Under it there are two buttons, "New Profile" and "Edit Profile." Click "Edit Profile." In the section, "Version Selection," you will see "Use Version." Change the version to 1.7.2, and the problem is solved.

I'm unable to log into the server. I've already had my profile set to 1.7.2.

Internal Exception: java.lang.ClassCastException: bit cannot be cast to fm

From what I've looked up, this is supposed to be a server side error. I just installed a fresh copy of Minecraft on my laptop. I re-installed Windows 7 on my laptop yesterday.
After re-downloading Minecraft and trying to log in again, I still get the same error.

This must be my curse for trying to become god of the server.

Isn't the current version 1.7.4 though? That's what I've got my launcher set to and it works fine.

Just tried it and the error changed from "bit cannot cast to fm" to "bju cannot cast to fm".
