Maybe it's just because I generally have difficulties to appreciate most stuff released in the current decade, yet I have no clue why.
I don't think that's absolutely true. Awesome Metal has been delivered in the last couple of years. 2016 hasn't ended and we're still expecting some (probably) great albums.

What I do agree with is that really old bands keep making new records despite having ran out of steam a decade ago or more. The result is really poor, and like you said, bland music from dudes that should've stopped squeezing the money out of their previous fame and prestige. It's understandable why they do it; everyone needs to make a living, but it's just wrong and tons of people end up buying their new stuff anyways just because of the name.

That being said, I don't believe Sodom are completely guilty of this, but IMHO, after M-16 (with a few exceptions like In War and Pieces maybe) they started burning out. So unfortunately, this doesn't really surprise me.

Been only judging from what I've heard so far. Maybe I'll need to keep digging further for more current stuff. Hell, I have the Book of Souls on Triple-LP and still wasn't able to give it a listen yet.

Makes me wonder, has there ever been a band or artist that kept releasing fresh and juicy content over multiple decades? Like most bands I recall were either rather short-lived or had at least one dud in their discography.

Just gave Metallica's new album a listen and I'm positively surprised. It's far from a masterpiece but it a pretty solid album, nevertheless.

Haven't heard it all yet, but I mostly agree. Some songs are kinda repetitive though.
