Battle for Azurias

Post by Vomarsk » Sat Jun 14, 2025 6:15 pm

After the Battle in Hell, the Vomarsk Swarm has found the second Chain Sword on the planet Azurias, entombed in a massive energy crystal in an ancient temple. They have sent one of their Extraction Citadels to crack open the crystal and capture the Chainsword.
A bunch of other factions have also gathered on Azurias and are trying to cause mayhem and disrupt the excavation.

Factions:
Immortals (played by skerebob
SpaceCorps (played by Cybrandir)
Orlogrod (played by Duerer)
The Vomarsk Swarm (played by me)
Blue Radical Interstellar Knights (played by Equinox)

Initial Overwatch

Turn 1
Immortals

The Immortal Dreadnought fires a missile at the Vomarsk Drones guarding their Commander on the central platform.
Image

The Commander and one Drone manage to bail far enough, but the other two aren't as lucky and get vaporized in the blast.
Image

As Terrorkhan Kelly Jumps up to the weakened alien forces, she is shot by a Viper and, not having any Legionnaires within redshirting distance, gets unceremonially gunned down and mortally wounded.
Image

StarCorps

The Trike moves up to fire one of its missiles at the Immortal Legionnaires
Image

Pictured here: the parallel universe where everyone isn't incompetent.
Image

This is what actually happened though. The resulting explosion rips off one of the trike's guns.
Image

The remaining turret and the trikes passenger shoot at the Dreadnought. The turret does, at least, the passenger shoots his driver in the back of the head. luckily, it doesn't deal damage. unfortunately, neither does the shot that hit its target. The Dreadnought just stares at them menacingly, causing one of the two to yell "sorry" and asking for a truce.

Seeing the disrupted alien Commander, the Jeep takes a shot...
Image

But misses completely, instead hitting the giant drilling platform. The damage isn't nearly enough to get through the ships armor, though.
Image

"Hey guys, let me help you get up there"
Image

"Thanks Boss!" With the help of their hero, the starcorps troops climb up the mountain and onto the temple area.
Image

Orlogrod

Combined fire from the Angel hardsuits hits the Extraction Citadel.
Image

This time its enough firepower to deal some damage to the Miner, but the ship is still relatively unfazed. It's mining lasers start glowing menacingly though. I think you made it mad.
Image

Suddenly, a Studlander appears. This might get explained later.
Image

One of the Artillery Carts loads a missile...
Image

... and shoots a Viper out of the air.
Image

The Officer, witnessing the kill, calls for reinforcements. shortly after, an engineer arrives.
Image
Image

In an attempt to damage the Citadel even more, the hero rips apart one of the temple's ramps and throws it at the alien vessel, but the mining laser snipes the plate out of the air and even does enough overkill damage to severly hurt one of the hardsuits.
Image

Vomarsk Swarm

The surviving Viper angrily flies over to the immortals to punish them further for interfering with the mining operation.
Image

it successfully melts through the Dreadnoughts armor and shoots off one of its turrets.
Image

Meanwhile, the Commander realizes that his troops are dwindeling. He calls for reinforcements from the citadel, which sends down a drop pod near Orlogrod's position.
Image
Image

The Commander then turns to fire upon orlogrod, destroying one of the hardsuits.
Image
Image
Image

B.R.I.K.

"Alright guys, we're here to crack open those towers and get their power cores. Get to it!"
Image

All guns fire at the neares temple structure.
Image

The temple is damaged, but stays mostly intact for now.
Image

Overwatch:
Image

Turn 2
Immortals

Two of the Legionnaires drop their weapons to grab the Dreadnoughts launcher. Maybe it'll become useful again.
Image

The Dreadnought and the other two Legionnaires take down the remianing Viper with ease
Image

While these two morons nearly blow themselves up. Turns out a half-molten rocket launcher might be a safety risk.
Image

StarCorps

The Trike attempts to stunt drive up the mountain - successfully making it up. Most of it at least. ot rams its remaining turret into the wall, breaking it in the process.
Image

"Alright guys, let's get that studlander!" The Troopers form a tower to help the studlander off the building.
Image

"Thanks. I was wondering how i'd get down from there"
Image

Meanwhile, the jeep attempts to kill the Vomarsk Commander. but the recently landed drop pod luckily brought a few redshirts.
Image
Image

Orlogrod

The mechanic attempts to fix up the Angel that got mined eaerlier, but isn't able to help it.
Image

"hey, we could use some more reinforcements here! Send in the big guy!"
Image

"I meant an archangel, not a demon!"
Image

One of the artillery carts shoots the Commander in the back. now barely out of redshirting range, he has to take the damage. Luckily, Vomarsk Commanders are tough, so he survives the explosion.
Image

The remainder of Orlogrod's Troops keep shooting the Citadel.
Image

Another damage to the Alien Ship.
Image

Having witnessed another death earlier, the Officer calls for an assistent, so the mechanic can actually do his job.
Image

Vomarsk Swarm

The two Mech Drones fire at the artillery cart, blowing it up.
Image

The Drop Pods turret also fires, blowing itself up.
Image

The Drone also fires, blowing nothing up because it's useles.
Image

The Commander also blows something up - not the hero he was aiming for, though, but her redshirting scout.
Well, "blows up" might be an overstatement.
Image

Finally using the mining laser for what it's supposed to be used for, the Citadel cracks open the crystal a bit. But the Chainsword isn't fully freed from its prison yet.
Image

Satan
Fueled by an unhealthy hatred for the dutch, Satan runs towards the studlander - crit fails his sprint, trips over one of the bridges and falls to the ground. Unlike Mammon, he doesn't die to fall damage at least.
Image

B.R.I.K.

The Knights keep firing at the tower, this time the structures armor holds though. Sadly I forgot to take a picture of their attempt.
I also forgot to take an Overwatch picture for that turn. Whoops.

Turn 3

Immortals

Some Legionnaires try to kill the last drone, but it manages to hide from them.
Image

The rest grab their weapons and move up towards the central crater.
Image

Another salvo from the Dreadnoughts machinegun deals some serious damage to the Citadel.
Funny story here: we forgot about deflection and rolled too many dice at first. When we re-did the roll, the Immortals rolled so many crits that they dealt about 3 times the damage they would have with the first roll.
Should've kept my mouth shut...
Image

The Officer tries to leap up the hill, but hits his head and falls down again
Image

StarCorps ft. Studland

So... uhm. Everyone shoots Satan.
Image

For this much +6 damage. Which I think was 118
Image

yeah, the Demon doesn't survive that. Another sin killed by the dutch.
Image

For his efforts, the Studlander gets promoted
to
Bertinator.
Image

Orlogrod

The now gunless gunner keeps launching projectiles at aliens. Just with a less effective launcher this time. which sadly means that the rocket doesn't blow up. Even as his officer walks over to shoot it.
Image

"Mine!"
The hero runs over to the crystal to grab the Chainsword, but her claw gets stuck in the crystal.
Image

With his new assistant, the Mechanic manages to repair the Angel hardsuit back up.
Good as new and with an artillery cart as fire support, the Angel now tries to end the Vomarsk Commander. But they only manage to shoot him off the hill.

Since Satan definitely counts as a kill (still only as one) and definitely was witnessed, The Officer calls in a Flametrooper.

Vomarsk Swarm

Another shot from the Mining laser cracks open the crystal fully.
Image

"Acquiring target"
"No you don't"
as the commander sprints for the crystal, the orlogrod hero trips him up so that he falls into the crystal.
Image
Image

The remaining drone tries to shoot the temple pylone that the faction formerly known as Space Knights was working on, to show them that its friendly.
Image

The Mech Drones forget that they have weapons and don't do anything this turn. And the Laser Trooper forgets that he exists.
okay, i forgot both of those things. I was busy running around the table taking pictures and notes.

B.R.I.K.

Another Volley from the Knights - still not enough to destroy the tower, but at least one of its power calls falls out...
Image

... to be collected by the nearest Knight.
Image

Overwatch
Image

Turn 4

Immortals

The Dreadnought finally manages to take down the mothership.
Image

just as the Alien Commander recovers. "ha ha, got it!"
Image

CRUNCH
Image

with that out of the way, the drone that survived all their previous attempts to kill it now has to go. this time, combined fire from the legionnaires takes it out.
Image

StarCorps ft Bertinator

The Jeep drives over Satan to get to Orlogrod.
Image

After the Troopers shoot off one of Satans wings, the Trike follows. The jeep fires another missile at an Angel.
Image

But misses. the Hardsuit is fine.
Image

wanting to secure the Chainsword for their Allies in the Immortal Empire, the remaining Troopers move up and shoot the orlogrod hero - one of the troopers underestimates his weapons knockback though and falls into the crater.
Image
Image

Orlogrod

In retaliation, the Jeep is exploded by the Angel and Artillery Cart.
Image
Image

Followed by the Trike, which gets blown up by Orlogrods Officer and a trooper.
Image
Image

The newely arrived flamethrower immediately tries to cook the two Mech Drones (and ideally the missile between them). He only manages to kill one of the aliens though, the missile is apparently really sturdy.
Image

With nothing better to do, the mechanic and his assistant play around with the temples power conduits and manage to brew some of the unstable plasma sphere into Maniac Beer.
Image
Image

Vomarsk Swarm

After a last failed attempt to take out at least some more Orlogrod troops, the Laser Trooper orders the Mech drone to retreat with him to regroup with other swarm forces on the planet.
Image

B.R.I.K.

The Knights are trying to avenge my drone! I'm touched. Unfortunately the only spectacular thing that happens is the tank blowing its own cannon up while trying to kill Legionnaires.
Image

Overwatch
Image

Turn 5

The immortals shoot back, killing one of the Knights.
Image

"Tell the Supreme Commander that we have the sword. The Brootalz will not get this one."
One more fig to earn a promotion today.
Image

We decide to call it there, since Orlogrod and the Space Knights aren't really in a position to get the Sword from the Immortals and StarCorps.

This battle looks very good! The use of raised baseplates and the classic factions are awesome!
