Battle of Clamberson's Field

Post by Sir Sporktimus » Sat Mar 28, 2015 6:23 pm

I'm sorry to say this won't be a full-on, turn-by-turn Battle Report, but with both a busy adult and a six-year-old participating for the first time, along with four other players, the time necessary to document it would have stretched the game out beyond the best of players' attention spans. Thus, a short summary of the best moments.

Shortly after the events of Gold Rush, in which Blue Heliad Sciences suffered heavy losses to Ms. Imperial Brown's mercenary force and the ragtag band of warriors that form the Wolves of the Wild, Captain Lance Silversun was met with reinforcements from Blue Heliad. These three forces, ready for further conflict, were forced to put aside their vendettas as they received the news that Duke Fury had assembled his forces, stronger than ever before, and had allied himself with the Empire of the Dragon's Fist and the Space Wraith Mercenary Corp. in order to take revenge upon the lot of them. Massively outnumbered, Ms. Imperial Brown, Blue Heliad, and the Wolves of the Wild chose to band together with the hope of surviving the coming fight, and headed to meet the opposition at a nearby village called Clamberson's Field..

The battlefield featured the Laketown set from Desolation of Smaug set amidst a ring of stone ruins and forest, with the six armies spread evenly, at equal distance from the center of the board. The factions participating were, in position order (turns moved counter-clockwise):

Ms. Imperial Brown and her Brown Company (Alliance 1)
Space Wraiths Mercenary Corp. (Alliance 2)
Duke Fury and his Fury Company (Alliance 2)
Empire of the Dragon's Fist (Alliance 2)
Wolves of the Wild (Alliance 1)
Blue Heliad Sciences Corporation (Alliance 1)

It was a massive battle, thrown together without CP, featuring the three small, half-sized factions of Alliance 1 against the three massive ones of Alliance 2 (players were quite opinionated as to who they wanted to be allied with, which resulted in Alliance 2 being twice Alliance 1's size.)
The Blue Heliad Sciences/Ms. Imperial Brown/Wolves of the Wild Alliance's larger units:
The MW-1 Daedalus - Military Walker
The Vindicator - One-man Fighter
The Scuttler - small, insectoid minitank
A Dire Wolf - courtesy of Chima Legends Beasts
A 3" mobile turret

The Duke Fury/Dragonfist Empire/Space Wraith Mercenary Corp. Alliance's larger units:
A massive armored troop carrier born by a Rancor
A Battle Crocodile - Also courtesy of Chima
The gigantic Buffalo Avenger Mark II, outloaded with 14" worth of 2" and 3" guns and missile launchers
A laser-equipped defense tower
A Bentwing-class Gunship
A 14" Spacetank loaded with guns, launchers and other weaponry

The Most Notable Moments:

One of the first moves of the game was the Space Wraith Mercenary Corps Sprinting their massive spacetank, flying it over the whole battlefield and landing directly in front of the Wolves of the Wild, who proceeded to open fire with their 3" hoverturret. The turret scored a whopping 56 points of damage, blowing out both treads and causing a strong retreat the following turn on part of the Wraiths.

The Buffalo Avenger Mark II opening fire on Imperial Brown's Queen Ares, proceeding to miss with an explosive launcher, a machine gun, and a 3" plasma cannon. The Vindicator promptly blasted off its arm, and the Buffalo proceeded to attack her and critically fail with the rest of its armament, including two long-ranged pulse blasters, a missile launcher, a machine gun, and a large cannon. Duke Fury's player has opted to discontinue use of walkers in future battles.

Ms. Imperial Brown surviving consecutive attacks by a Britannian cannon, an armored hero making a Mounted Charge, and three melee assailants in the same turn.

The Dragonfist Empire's Hero, Death's Fang, facing off against the Wolf of the Wild's Hero, the White Fang, in which Death's Fang leapt from the top of the Rancor's troop carrier and White Fang leaped up from the back of his Dire Wolf. Death's Fang was shot in the face halfway through the maneuver and fell about two stories. White Fang landed back on his Dire Wolf, but troops dropping off the armored Rancor killed him, before proceeding to behead the Dire Wolf and start a Conga line on his back. :wtc: They were promptly demolished the next turn by the rest of the Wolves.

The lucky 3" turret promptly proceeded to blast the Rancor, taking out 3 HP of its 4. The last point was massively overkilled by the MW-1 Daedalus the next turn with two 2" MachineGuns and a 3" lasercannon, causing the troop carrier to topple over. The six units on top sprinted for the center of the board, where they were all of them eliminated in a single blast by Captain Lance Silversun. The last of the Dragonfist Empire now destroyed, things were looking bleak for Duke Fury, and only got worse as the decimated Space Wraiths Mercenary Corp. pulled a full retreat and left the battle.

It was only marked as a decisive victory for Imperial Brown/Blue Heliad/Wolves of the Wild, however, when the Vindicator proceeded to blast the Buffalo Avenger Mark II's cockpit apart and kill the pilot inside, whilst also murdering Duke Fury, the Space Ninja, and a gunner. The MW-1 Daedalus proceeded to open fire on the rest of Duke Fury's main ground force, mowing down most of them. At this point the meager units left went sprinting for the edge of the battlefield, leaving their disrupted, heavily armored hero in their wake.

This battle marked two important notes:

The Wolves of the Wild, Imperial Brown, and Blue Heliad Sciences - all previously at war in Gold Rush - serving as a single alliance, and opening up the possibility of further operations together in future,

and the first recorded demonstration of Blue Heliad dishing out destruction of a significant nature, remedying the qualms about Captain Lance Silversun's leadership capabilities for the time being.
